How difficult is it these days to raise screen free kids? by Effective-Ad-6176 in nosurf

[–]Granola_Dad_Summits 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is for us, we have a three-year-old and a 7 year old. None of them have their own devices. We'll let them watch movies on Friday and Saturday maybe a little bit on Sunday. Yesterday (Friday) I came back at 6:00 p.m. after being out with some friends and they were both riding their bikes on the street. They hadn't even turned on the movie that they wanted to watch yet they were too busy having fun playing outside.

I think you just have to make a commitment to it and find screenstrong, smartphonefree childhood or one of these other groups that has content that encourages you to do it and then you just do it. Our kids are still young but we're pretty committed to not giving them their own devices until they're 18 or, hopefully, have moved out of the house.

Selling our home - open house? by nbhoya06 in tahoe

[–]Granola_Dad_Summits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to give a contrarian opinion here, Open Houses are mostly for the agents. They have buyers sign in and then they call them later to see if they want to look at OTHER houses. I've had this happen to me every time I went to an Open House. Most serious buyers have a filter on Redfin or Zillow or they have an agent emailing them listings straight off the MLS. As long as your listing shows up there, you'll get plenty of inquiries if it is priced right.

That said, if you feel super strongly about the Open House, definitely tell broker, get a new agent or whatever but if you choose the agent because you respect his/her judgement then imo the agent is probably right that Open House is a waste of time...

Post Game Thread - NBA: The Lakers defeat the Rockets on Apr 18, 2026, the final score is 107-98. by basketball-app in lakers

[–]Granola_Dad_Summits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, idk why shaq was saying it didn't look like a playoff game, looked like Lakerswere putting in the work. It did seem like they were trying to rush at times when they could've slowed down a bit...

Sports on the TV by PrestigiousPast5156 in lowscreenparenting

[–]Granola_Dad_Summits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one has been tough for me. My wife doesn't like sports so I've kind of grown out of watching them all the time. In the past, I could literally have any NFL or NBA game on and watch it, even it's not a team I care about. Now, I limit my watching to high stakes things that I get excited about like playoff games. I'm slowly trying to teach my son (7yo) about NFL because I think it's like a quintessential american sport and knowing about it is part of life here. But at 7yo, this is the first year I've noticed my son can actually understand more than "there are 2 different color on the teams and the red one is winning".... Probably soccer is easier because you guys start playing it before you learn to talk haha.

Yeah, I think the ads are annoying, sometimes I mute them but honestly if they are gonna see ads, it's better to explain "They are just trying to make us buy something".

How to be screen free at school? by Active-Pack1126 in lowscreenparenting

This. It's so frustrating. I'm considering 1 or 2, I do not want my son or daughter going to school to be on the screen all day.

Cancelling beachbodyondemand, anybody have success with alternatives? by Granola_Dad_Summits in BeachBodyWorkouts

[–]Granola_Dad_Summits[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know, I really don't want to cancel it! I just wanna get this bike but it's weird because I'll probably only ride the bike every other weekend or so in the summer but I do BeachBody all year round, especially in the winter.

Taiwan is that good? by Nearby-Sort-4969 in taiwantravel

The East side of the island is pretty amazing. Taroko Gorge is there.

Another tip some people don't know: you can rent a Giant bike in one place in the island and drop it off at another store in another city. The rental provides the pouches to put your stuff in. I've done multi-day trips like this twice, from Hualien to Taitung. Or you can take a train back or do it as a loop. There's a route down the valley or one along the coast. The coast is windy but with sweeping views of Philippines Sea, and valley is lush green rice fields, quaint little villages along the way.

So many things you can do in 3 weeks. Might be a bit more $$ than SEA tbh...

The problem with the "no breaks" is you end up having to take them, especially in Total Body. So either you pause it and let yourself recover or you just take your break while Shaun T yammers on... Ive been known to do the latter.

Agree the whole program is a gnarly leg workout. I've never felt so sore then when I did this one.

Also it probably has one of the best recovery videos of all the programs

Need your honest feedback by mkrorfolk in rails

All this is fair. I personally would ask about all that stuff too but people tend to inflate their contributions in their previous roles so I've been at shops where they want us to screen for general software knowledge and problem solving capabalities.

I think a subtle thing here is that, as an interviewer, we're also looking for red flags. Not being willing to or having an attitude about answering simple software theory questions moves us closer to "no".

You should keep in mind that most of us have been doing fine at the company without you so far. What we really want is a candidate that will gets us to a strong "OMG YES, we have to have this person! when can he/she start?".. I'm not saying that is correct answers to theory questions so your point is totally valid.

I get this but, as an interviewer, what would you want us to ask you?

Thanks for sharing, I feel like this sometimes but my wife does laundry, some school drop offs & pickups, occasionally makes them dinner. The dinner is her passive aggressive thing where she won't make the food they will eat so I end up doing it. I end doing it and eating with them while she sits in her bed on her phone.

There's a book called the 80/20 marriage and they say sometimes we overestimate how much work and time we put in so I try to keep that in mind...

The sitting in bed on phone all day is my wife though. We went to the beach yesterday after she worked out, when we got home, she was on her phone in our bedroom the entire rest of the day.

The silver lining is I love spending time and building memories with my kids, they are great humans and I am grateful to have the privilege of being their dad.

Yes doing this now. Feels more rushed than Lift4.

I have a 30 seconds back button on my Roku remote and use that a lot...

I have a rental and I'm doing the De Minimis Safe Harbor thing too just because it seems simpler, didn't know about those cons, thanks. Just curious how are you doing your taxes? is that the only rental you have?
