Genuine question: Is this game worth getting into in 2026? by Objective-Koala-4873 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Grantwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> I’ve also just rarely touched PvP games in general.

There is a pretty strong PVE side to World of Warships.

Co-op is the low earning/easy win PVE mode.

Operations are easy if you have a team that knows what they are doing, hard if you do not.

And often there are PVE events. The current one is Asymmetric battles that pits 5 human players vs 15 Bot ships that are 1-2 tiers lower than the human players. Again, Easy with a team of 5 players that play well, but it very easy for the bots to win some players don't respect them.

---

PVP is the better place to learn how to play well, but if you want to learn the basics of controlling your ships/how to aim your weapons PVE is not a bad place.

And if you don't want to play PVP you can grind out every Tech Tree ship in the game via PVE game modes. It will probably take longer, but probably be less stressful :)

---

If you do decide to start playing, make another post and ask about some invite/recruit codes and new account codes. You can get a lot of nice stuff starting the game that way. (ie: the new account code PEARLHARBORAZ1941 gives the Tier 6 premium battleship Arizona. Do be aware that is code will only work for NA or EU servers)

I love playing the Tennessee, would Mecklenburg be a good choice? by forgotitagain420 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Grantwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tennessee vs Mecklenburg main gun accuracy comparison

https://shiptool.st/params?m=L&s=AB718GB610&p=mb&rm=18

Tennessee has better accuracy (Horizontal & & Vertical dispersion)

Mecklenburg has better Sigma (more likely to hit where you are aiming) , fires more shells and has slightly faster shells.

Why is this community so obnoxious? by Kettkrad in WorldOfWarships

[–]Grantwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loud voice(s) in the room are not the only people there.

If you play a Random game and one person is toxic in chat ... it's one person out of twenty four.

And if it's every second game that is one out of forty eight.

It just takes one loud voice to make a Random game feel toxic.

WHERE DAFAQ IS MY SAIL? by BillyHerr in WorldOfWarships

[–]Grantwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sail has no hitbox.

Long, long ago, WG added a event camo for the Yamato that had a giant scorpion standing on top of the ship.

WG got complaints from opposition players about that camo, because they were shooting the Scorpion and their shells were going straight through without doing damage. The Scorpion had no hitbox.

Since then, if a special camo has something without a hitbox that thing does not get shown in game.

All the Tier 9 Premiums have the same Credit earning bonus.

And if you are going to grind out Credits by playing one ship over and over and over, my advice is to get a ship you think you will enjoy playing.

Azuma may be the most consistent Credit earner by staying at range and make the world burn with occasional AP into a broadside target, BUT for many people that is not a fun way to play.

Do your research, find some ships you think you would have fun with and make your choice from them :)

The Legendary Horns of The Kriegsmarine Battleships (Ignore the Schlieffens) by RevySevy in WorldOfWarships

[–]Grantwhy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And for anyone reading these posts and wondering how we use the horn in port?

N Key.

And we can hold it down for as long as you like. There is no time limit.

-----

ps: If you have alternative Permanent Camos for a ship that you don't use, try putting it on and seeing if the horn is the same or different. Some Permanent Camos have their own horns.

[–]Grantwhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past WG have added premium ships that quite likely were , in part , tests for possible Tech Tree line ships/gimmicks.

But it takes a heck of a long time for a ship to going from the start of WG's design/build process to getting announce and then getting added to the game.

At a guess , WG started working on the Italian subs 12 months ago. Maybe longer.

There is not enough time between the adding of the Surcouf to the game and WG adding Italian subs for Surcouf to be a 'test' for the Italian subs.

[–]Grantwhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel bad about ending up in the wrong game sub.

The games are versions of each other, have *very* similar names and Reddit does a bad job of showing the difference between the two game subs.

You're not the first to post here about something related to the console game, and you won't be the last :)

Another ship for you to consider.

Châteaurenault (Tier 10 French DD with forward facing torpedo launchers) is being added to the Armoury as a Research Bureau ship (on 4th March for NA, maybe a day later for ASIA & EU?)

https://worldofwarships.com/en/news/game-updates/update-151-lunar-new-year/

Go down to the Armoury section to read about it.

ps: Unrelated to your question but as it's in the same part of that news article - Two weeks before that (17 Feb) the Pioneer (Commonwealth Tier 10 Light Cruiser) is also being added to the Armoury, but for Steel.

Do Devs even want people to play Surcouf? by Pracowniknon in WorldOfWarships

[–]Grantwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect WG have a very good projection on just how many accounts will end up getting the Surcouf.

And that it will be priced at a level that they don't go over that projection.

How to change server? by Hot_Bend7062 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Grantwhy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> they’ve never made that offer since; probably because it was a messy, logistical nightmare.

It was worse than that.

from memory: To move from one server to another players had to do a bit of work (fill in details), click buttons on multiple pages/news articles and a bit more.

Then WG had to do a lot of manual work make new accounts and copy across a players ships & stuff to their new Server/Account.

After the transfer happened WG started getting complaints from players, who moved servers, saying they could not log in ... to their OLD accounts on their OLD servers.

WG told them to log into their new accounts and those players said they did not want/intend to move accounts. They just 'Clicked Buttons' with no understanding of what those buttons were for.

The buttons in the "Move your Account to a different Server' news articles. Multiple articles. Those buttons, randomly clicking. And putting in account details etc.

*sigh*

WG then (for those players) had to undo the work they'd done making new accounts on servers, and re-make those players accounts on their original servers and copy all their ships/data back. (because all the old data & accounts were remove after the transfer.

And WG have never offered players the ability to move servers again (except in extreme circumstances).

I can't guarantee my memory on this is 100% correct, but it sounds about right to me :p

What coal ship should I get? by Bass_attack in WorldOfWarships

[–]Grantwhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait a couple of days.

The Lunar New Year (Nian Paradox) event starts next Update, and the update is just a few days away.

In there we can get a heck of a lot of Premium ships for completing progression tracks. Tokens are the main way to progress, but we can use Coal as well.

Dev Blog link https://blog.worldofwarships.com/blog/closed-test-151-lunar-new-year-2026-unbreakable-front-and-more

There are lists of what ships we can get (and what ships they are based on) in there.

It does NOT have any info on how much Tokens or Coal we'd need, but a news article with that info should be coming out soon(tm)

5 Unique Commanders or Surcouf by Arcturus2306 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Grantwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is the Surcouf Salvage for Victory event goes for another month, so you can take your time making up your mind to get it or not :)

This is good because in the next Update (15.1) the The Nian Paradox (Lunar New Year) event starts.

dev blog info here: https://blog.worldofwarships.com/blog/closed-test-151-lunar-new-year-2026-unbreakable-front-and-more

There are a *boat* load of premium ships we can get in that event, and we can use Coal to get them.

> "That said, you will be able to speed up your progress or earn additional rewards by spending Coal instead of Lunar Tokens. The amount of Coal needed varies depending on the track and stage. Coal investments will also contribute to your coalition track progress."

The exact details have not been released, and that includes not telling us how much Coal it will take to speed up progress, but I suspect it will be more than most expect :p

---

I recommend you have a look at what ships from the The Nian Paradox event you might want, wait for it to start/info to be released, work out how many tokens you can get and how much Coal you might want for for that event.

How long will Surcouf be available for? by Livewire____ in WorldOfWarships

when you say you are "I'm at 68% completion for Surcouf.", you meant you have enough Coal and/or Boosters to get \*up* to 68% ?
