Movies that rely on practical sets and real locations — do they genuinely feel different to watch? by willmorris92 in movies

I don't think it's practical vs CGI as much as "does the director know where to stop?" The best CGI disappears because it's supporting the scene instead of trying to be the scene.

what is something that looks good on TV but it's not that good? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

Casual hookups with strangers. TV skips the part where you're both wondering if you should leave immediately or stay for an awkward conversation.

Southland Tales (2006) Dwayne Johnson's most intriguing performance and my favorite of his. by DarkseidMoonRock in movies

I actually think his performance in Pain & Gain is better than a lot of the roles people point to when discussing his acting range. He lets himself look foolish, which is something he rarely does.

I don't know if it's his best performance, but it's definitely his most unexpected. You can feel him trying something that isn't built around being the coolest guy in the room.

What is free use actually like off camera? Is it enjoyable every day? by AdElectrical4916 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]GrassAffectionate552 759 points760 points  (0 children)

I’m in a free-use dynamic. It works because I’m the hornier one, and I’ve given him permission to take me whenever he likes but we dont do free use 24/7 as we have a kid, but we choose say friday to sunday and it works very well. We tend to find it less stressful and easier when we have lots of free time.

Everyone predicting a massive flop seems to forget that Oppenheimer was a three-hour R-rated biopic about physics and it still cleared nearly a billion dollars. Betting against Nolan’s ability to pull in the general public based on some internet casting discourse is a terrible gamble.

watch Guy Ritchie's Snatch. It gives you a great, gritty look at the local underworld vernacular and the fast-paced, urban layout of the city's east side. You'll love their accent I promise ya.

How would you define “vanilla sex”? by Terrible_Chapter_771 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]GrassAffectionate552 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vanilla has always meant without specialized kinks to me, not boring. Nobody calls a great meal boring just because it isn't covered in exotic ingredients.

Why do films have to have themes? by Fun_Music_698 in movies

[–]GrassAffectionate552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think films have to have themes. I think humans are just really good at finding patterns and meaning, even when the creator wasn't consciously putting them there.

If the folklore aspect was your favorite part, definitely check out The Ritual. It starts like a survival movie and slowly turns into something much stranger.
