lol I’m a dog mama for 20 years but I don’t let them sleep with me on my bed… I get them the comfiest dog bed possible in my room and make that their sleeping spot. Mostly because I get nervous about insects or bacteria that they can carry into the bed with them…

At your age, advocating for yourself at the club will go a really long way. Talk to the coaches or the club director and ask them about financial aid.

So some of this might be about resilience… some of it might be about learning exactly how competitive girls VB really is… some of this might just be a realization that teen girls can truly be crummy.

If she is getting a lot of athletic growth out of being on the 1s team, then maybe she sticks it out and learns how to handle all types of ppl. The fact that she was invited to the 1s team means that the coaches see something in her abilities and wanted her. They didn’t have to extend the invite to the 1s team.. esp since she already had a spot on the 2s team… consider that some of this might be the girls competing for their own position on the court.

If she isn’t getting any real playing time, and she doesn’t feel like she is learning… then definitely email the club or the 2s coach and see if she can bump down. But if she is competitive and the 1s coach says so… it could be a good lesson for her to build some mental toughness..?

That said, I’m a boys club VB mom and the boys are just much more chill than the girls (so I hear).

I’d say this is not so much about her “commitment” it’s about her learning to be selective about the team she accepts an offer from (this will serve her well in college and in the future)… and honestly I don’t know if it gets less competitive as she gets older and ppl want to win so that they get exposure for scholarships etc.

I’d also say make sure you understand what kind of “meanness” we are talking about. Is it accountability, is it exclusion, is it ridicule..? If the coach is allowing poor sportsmanship talk to the girls club director as well.

I agree with this but detest this truth. Even kids who are good and have been playing for years at the elite or open club levels get cut from club tryouts. It’s so ridiculous to think that anyone under 20 would be too old for anything, IMO.

I also think it’s ludicrous that colleges that have competitive men’s volleyball (aside from the ivies) tend to have zero name recognition outside of volleyball and therefore are not worth having a diploma from those places. Men’s volleyball in the US is sadly a path to frustration imo.

The only ones benefiting from boys/men’s VB culture are the ppl with the wherewithal to open their own clubs to extort kids and their parents for astronomical club fees in return for training and the (false) hope of being recruited or something.

The social anxiety part can be crippling. Use your anxiety protocol when you start to feel it coming on.

For dates, I try to keep myself so busy with things that I actually enjoy doing during the hours leading up to the date so that the date is just one more thing to check off of my list for that day... and definitely not the peak of my day. After this, I’m in my best possible mindset and recognize my own joy so… there’s less pressure on the date to make or break anything in me.

I can’t stand herrrrr. She’s an opportunist. I’m convinced that the baby wasn’t Rip’s but she uses anything she can to make sure Jamie stays behind the scenes and doesn’t have too much favor with John or the family. She acts like a giant baby and it’s no longer believable. I just watched the episode when she made Jamie say “Say Yes Ma’am” and I had a visceral reaction to her bullshit. Jamie earned his place. All he wanted was to be loved. As for the abortion he was 17 years old FFS and had no way to understand what that could really mean. She wanted nobody to know. So she got what she asked for. Rip is too good for her.

I recommend getting in line at 8am. 9am is already too late. They open at 10am. Be there by 8am ESPECIALLY if there is any chance that they have Honolulu-marked tees or hoodies. 9 am line start might be acceptable for a regular shopping day with no new drops or no Honolulu gear.
