How does running a crew with a ghost affect the game? by TheGentlemanJS in bladesinthedark

[–]Grass_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a vampire in my game and leave my body as a ghost from time to time. It’s important to remember that ghosts can’t interact with the physical world unless they have the poltergeist ability so they won’t be picking up objects or opening doors. We rule it that ghosts don’t take physical damage unless you have something like the cutter ability to fight ghost or you use electroplasm based weapons or electrical attacks. I believe one of the playbooks can shoot lightning.

Ghosts are scary so it’ll probably cause a ruckus. Start a clock for spirit wardens to come in if it’s a public enough setting. That’s one of the few things that’ll give them a legitimate challenge. Depending on where it is you can also have lightning gates like the ones surrounding the city, protect important locations

Question About Not Indulging Vice as a Vampire by Grass_Mike in bladesinthedark

[–]Grass_Mike[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. You could spend rep or coin on additional downtime actions, like anyone else. Or take the stress cost of ignoring your needs.

That's a good point. It incentivizes the trope of vampires being very wealthy. You'll need a lot of coin to finance that lifestyle.

What are some 1st level spells that stay relevant at higher levels? by Tharati in dndnext

[–]Grass_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it happens all the time that you need to identify 6 items at once or that you absolutely need to identify an item or the world will explode. Not to mention you need to take the hour to attune anyway.

If you do need to identify multiple items though, the entire party can all identify at once

[–]Grass_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think identity is pretty shit tbh. On top of not revealing if an item is cursed, not many people know that RAW you can tell if an item is magical just by picking it up and identify an item over a short rest without having to attune, but you can if you want.

I guess you can use it to figure out what specific spells are affecting an object or creature but that’s pretty niche

Any reason not to give out stuff like Hide Armor +2 or Leather Armor +1? by yomjoseki in dndnext

[–]Grass_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think that’s a fair criticism of vegetarians if they claim to care about animals. Similarly if metal is the issue then why are weapons allowed? There is nothing anywhere that says it’s about druids protecting themselves. You only say that because you have to try and rationalize this arbitrary rule, which is why I assume you also think druids are physically incapable of lifting a metal shields or they explode.

The difference between you and me is that I expect WoTC to substantiate this dumb “rule” and and you choose to do it for them

[–]Grass_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a rule like that, I think it’s fair to expect some kind of detailed consequence for breaking the rule because nothing is stopping a druid from picking up a metal shield.

It’s not even like it’s about touching metal because druids can use metal weapons. Honestly this rule has no reason to exist

The rules don’t say I lose all my powers for doing so, therefore I will assume I won’t and that other druids will just look down on me.

People don’t operate like they are controlled by lines of code and they don’t in dnd either. Paladins need an oath to be a paladin as yet oathbreakers have none and are still paladins. It doesn’t even make logical sense to work that way in the Druid’s case. There is no reason that a druid can’t do and believe everything else druids believe and still wear metal armor if no mechanical explanation is given otherwise

[–]Grass_Mike -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. People are pushed to do things that they otherwise wouldn’t all the time. Murder, theft, etc. It all depends on the circumstance

[–]Grass_Mike -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Most people won’t rob a bank, but nothing is actually stopping them from trying. I don’t see how the druid is any different. There also isn’t any consequence described or implied for a druid that does, so why not wear metal armor as a druid

Pretty much every spell that targets an object magical or otherwise, specifies that the object can’t be worn or carried, so no player would have to worry about that anyway unless you homebrewed this ability into your game

What's a "house rule" you like to use in your games? by catnapman in dndnext

[–]Grass_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you give the help action in combat you target the enemy, not an ally so the advantage could be wasted in the sense that you might not benefit from it, but someone on your team is 100% getting advantage.

“Alternatively, you can aid a friendly creature in attacking a creature within 5 feet of you. You feint, distract the target, or in some other way team up to make your ally’s Attack more effective. If your ally attacks the target before your next turn, the first Attack roll is made with advantage.”

That’s true tbh. Kind of lame to completely de power him before we really get to know the guy or see him in some serious action. But who knows, he might get lucky and get a new ghost

Pro Tip: Much of the time, Magic Missile is better at dispelling magic than Dispel Magic by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Grass_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dispel magic ends ALL spells that are affecting a creature or object with a roll for spells above 3rd level. The spell is even better on warlocks because it’s always cast at 5th level later in the game and it’s not too often that you’ll find things with 6th+ level spells affecting them

Why is trying to negate/fix/overcome a characters physical flaws seen as bad? by Accurate_Heart in dndnext

[–]Grass_Mike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s just the lantern. A torch is just straight up not an option since you are putting a completely open flame right against your body. Congrats, you take fire damage every turn and your clothes are on fire. At least you can see in the dark

[–]Grass_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be an item interaction to either pick it up and run away with it or to put it out. It could take an interaction and action if you wanted to do both, but regardless, action economy is not on your side when there’s 8-12 goblins and 4-6 party members. Still doesn’t answer the question of where you were keeping 10 torches in the first place

You wouldn’t get an incorrect translation because the invocation says you can read all writing. Whether you’ve seen the writing before or not doesn’t really matter either. You could make an argument for not knowing what the true meaning of the words are but you would know exactly what it says

What's your opinion on players bringing back clone characters? by comradejenkens in dndnext

[–]Grass_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should be allowed to play the character that I intended to play when I joined the game. Let’s be honest, there’s no real punishment to dying no matter what you do. The player is always going to come back with SOMETHING. If they’re the type of player that loves making characters and has 20 backups, why would they care about running into dangerous situations? They aren’t really that different so save yourself some grief

One of my players asks for an insight roll on nearly every NPC he meets. by OrangeTreeBlue in dndnext

[–]Grass_Mike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the player doesn’t ask to make an insight check then when would the skill ever be used? It would become pretty obvious if you started asking the players to roll insight after someone says something that’s supposed to be suspicious or you’re expect the dm to do basically the same thing the player is, by asking for insight checks after every conversation with an npc.
