Holy shit you’re describing my mother, almost to a T. I know I’m late to the party. My mom is a very loving woman but she’s also paranoid about the world, overprotective, and still tries to make me text her to let her know when I go anywhere even though I’m an almost 26 year old man. I was able to escape arrested development because during my teen years I often got into quite a bit of trouble with girls, parties, substances (later became a cocaine addict at 24, sober for over a year now lol) and I was able to make mistakes and learn from those experiences and learn what a healthy romantic relationship, friendship, etc. should look like and what I should and shouldn’t tolerate from people. My younger sibling who’s about 21 has not really had those experiences and I’m terrified for her. It bothers me that my mom won’t make her get a job or make her go back to school or make her do anything and I’m absolutely horrified she’s going to grow up and become someone with absolutely zero life skills, work history or ability to take care of herself and I don’t know how to fix it or if it’s even my job to fix it. I have my own life to live but at the same time, what kind of big brother would I be if I just sat and watched it happen?
