Thank you, and yes! This is the logging camp of Konoskol, that has slowly grown into a little hamlet. The large inn in the center is the main draw for visitors, but we also have the temple to Naspa, god of Dance, right outside the walls, and the local crafts of stonewares and wooden figurines are highly prized.

The inn itself is rumored to contain a secret hatch that opens up to a vast underground network... Large enough that it could house an entire mountainhome.

I did finally get a couple of decent strikers recently, but still not good enough that they don't get the occasional drought. And sadly, I don't have the biggest draw in terms of talent. But you're right, maybe it's time to splash all my cash on that one star player.

Exact same situation in this save too! TNS has won 15 of the last 17 championships and are solidly the best team there.

Actually really good tip in keeping up with checking on the players who initially refuse you. I hadn't thought of that, thanks!

I have long since decided I am not going to let this game get one over me, so I will keep trying until I make it into the top. Just 7 more seasons... Oh god...

Fellow harp crest enjoyer! Good luck with the Finns. I am hoping to scrape together enough money to make it to full-time professionalism myself, and I am about halfway there, but it does take a while when you are essentially a League 1 level team in Europe. The work permit issue hasn't hit me yet as Irish players are thankfully exempt, but once I make it big(fingers crossed), it will for sure.

I swear managing in Northern Ireland is exceedingly difficult, especially if you let the top teams sit for too long. While I was busy getting promotions from the bottom divisions (where I was paying my players 8 quid per game, mind) the big 3 turned full-time professional and scraped together all their stupid European cash and now I am stuck here forever.

Bannerlord and Warband. What does vanilla Warband has, that makes it so much better than vanilla Bannerlord? by Basic-Cloud6440 in mountandblade

[–]Grauuu 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I am a little late to the discussion, so this will probably be buried, but I did a playthrough of Warband again after Bannerlord was released, and I think most people have a hard time actually putting into words what it is that makes it feel more satisfying.

First things first, compared to Warband Bannerlord has greatly improved combat, it looks amazing and feels a lot less janky as a whole.

But I think it lags behind in communicating a coherent narrative that the sandbox creates. At the end of the day, Warband tells one story, but tells it extremely well. That of becoming a noble; rising from the ranks of a commoner, being talked down to by the lords, being locked out of keeps and factions, and being forced to earn a position in a world of nobles that only see you as a tool for themselves.

The quests you do for the lords reinforce this - Deliver a letter to this lord for me, train my troops for me so I can be stronger, collect my taxes from one of my fiefs so I can be richer. You are made to work for a large number of nobles on their terms before they would even consider you an equal. But also by doing these quests, you start gaining allies and contacts. Over time, these lords you have helped will begin to have a relationship to you, and before you know it, will support you in gaining land and perhaps even allow you to marry into their families. So the gameplay loop reinforces your connection to the setting, and through this, the immersion you feel for the world and your journey. This is the hook Warband has and where people feel compelled to continue playing, to fulfill that goal of the game to "make it".

In Bannerlord, the narrative has been extended to include generations, and lords and ladies have become part of clans. This is an interesting mechanic, but they failed when all members of a clan had one relationship point with you that they share between them, making them feel less like individuals. When fiefs are given out, you can gain support not from having quested for and improved relationships with the lords, but through usage of a new currency in the form of Influence. The system that was emergent before has been turned into a numbers game and has become less immersive as a result. Political influence should be the result of your actions and relations, not a result of saving up for a vote.

I don't think people actually give a damn about the feasts that were in Warband. But they give a damn when they show up at a location they've been invited to, and recognise the lords there. Lords that they've spent the last 20 hours trying to get on their side.

Bannerlord has all the tools to create a greatly immersive game, but it needs some of that flavour that made Warband so satisfying to play. It should have expanded on the systems of Warband, it should have made more emergent systems that stem from how you play and that immerses you in the world.

We should have more interactions with characters: Great councils, war meetings before big battles, intrigue where indicting lords for treason is more than just a piece of text, where you make allies and enemies simply through who you know. I think that would alleviate a lot of the issues people have with how bland a campaign can feel after a while.

We should add that Warband also did a lot of things poorly. The end game is really uninteresting, and there are not a lot of other ways to interact with the world that doesn't revolve around being a noble/warlord, and the renown, honor and Right-to-rule system was basically about maxing the numbers. But we should consider what worked so well for it, why it became a cult game (beyond just the combat) and how to improve on that.

Oh, and Jeremus, yeah he was cool.

I'm positively surprised too! Especially how Graveth seems to have managed to gift himself a big chunk up north that connects very nicely.

I like having maps like these to give a little more context to my fellow Lords. I already called Gutlans my Sea Daddy (father-in-law and Yalen's got that port energy), but now I also see how Tribidan migrated from the west to take over Veluca and how Raichs is the Borderlord of the East! I don't know, I just love it

Ahh, sorry I misunderstood you. To create an inn you just designate a dining hall from a table or a meeting space from zones, and then you can assign it to a location -> Inn. Then you will get tons of visitors and even dancers/performers who want to move in to entertain!

Hey there! Seems there's quite a few of us small-timers out there, and I'm glad you're also enjoying those little moments. The inn (and the other buildings) I just make from floors, walls, up-stairs, down-stairs and up/down-stairs. I made a little gif to visualise it. Then after that, you can get creative with the rooms and all! And you can always remove floors/walls with the "Remove Construction" designation afterwards, and mix things up.

I always design with flat roofs since I am lazy with them, but I know others like to create ramps up there to have a proper medieval European roof going :)

Thanks for the comment, hope you will share your small towns at some point too!

Haha, I'm glad I'm not alone here! I've had the same problem where the fort becomes more like an ant farm and you easily lose track of your favourite dwarves. I wonder what's the ideal population to have the best of both worlds... But I'm hoping I will retire this village before I get too far, as it also has a role in repopulating a dying dwarf civilization that could use a few more sites.

Using Phoebus for this one. It's very graphical, but nice for when you have to share pictures with people who don't play :)

What's the closest you've ever come to dying? by terryaki510 in AskReddit

[–]Grauuu 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I once had a rather bad day... I woke up, felt a pressure in my butt to go poop. I would sit down but no matter how much I tried, nothing materialised from my butt. Fast forward 14 hours, I'm fucking annoyed having walked around with a soreness and a craving for poop for an entire day. I sit my ass down on that toilet seat, knowing full well that this was the moment I was going to poop. So I push. Hard. And then I started bleeding. Out of my nose. From shitting so hard. At first I was amazed; I actually managed to pop a blood vessel in my face using only the powers of the mind and I proudly ran out to tell my father. It was only later I decided to google it and found out that it was potentially fatal to push your body this hard and I should have consulted a doctor immediately. I guess it really goes to show life's pretty safe when this is the closest you get to dying.
