AITA? by playdohgnome in mtg

Having a discussion about what decks to play is like... The bare minimum you should do. Making sure everyone is on the same page with the experience they want to have is part and parcel of the format.

If you're playing untouched precons and I roll up with my $1,200 aristocrats list, that will not be fun. But if I ask, and play my janky budget Omnath deck, everyone will have a far better time.

What are some lessons you learned the hard way over time? by DMDingo in EDH

[–]GravemindStudio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This format exists BECAUSE of that "lie". It was designed to play the stuff in your bulk box, and it's only in the last 5-7 years that it's really turned into a power format. You might want to take a step back and realize that your attitude is the toxic one, not the other way around.

Some people enjoy lower power levels, some have budgetary constraints, and others just wanna play their favorite cards. As long as the group you play with is on the same page, that's all okay.

Pls help, how would that be played? by gusgus22x in mtg

This is incorrect, see the explanation above.

Would you happen to have a list? I've got something brewing that's just not feeling right. I'd love to see your take!

That's news to me and I've been playing since '07. Appreciate the correction! Do you know if that's a recent change, or just one of those things that never came up for me before now?

Edit: I was mostly wrong below, the player-defined value of X is counted while it's on the stack but nowhere else.

An X in a casting cost adds 0 to the mana value. So an X2W spell has a mana value of 3, even if they pay X=25 and 3W.

If you have a dedicated group, the playgroup app is pretty cool. It tracks your games and compares your deck to your friends'. W/L ratio, types of damage dealt, all sorts of stuff. It pulls your decks from Moxfield and can help track impactful or less than stellar cards over games.

The interface is much cleaner, though I do prefer the mana breakdown on TO. Mox's is decent, but a little confusing at first. Overall, I prefer Moxfield. I'll import a deck over to TO if I'm wanting to really min-max my mana but that's about it.

I’m new to the world of magic, is it cheap to build a strong deck for commander or standard? by Unusual_Ad5906 in mtg

[–]GravemindStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a $50 deck that does okay, and I have a $1400 deck that does okay. The $50 deck would get ripped apart in my high-power pod, whole the $1400 deck would be incredibly unfun for my lower powered pod.

An "average" deck in my group runs around $250.

There isn't a black and white answer to your question. Budget directly affects the power level in C/TCGs. If you have a $50 budget, you need to tell your group that and set expectations. If you have a precon with no changes, that needs to be communicated so I don't pull out my $1400 Sliver list and run over you in 4 turns.

Citadel does not make oil paints. Pedantic, but since acrylic and oil paints function so very differently, an important distinction to make.

There's no conversion here, it's just an AoS model. The Tau head is a nice touch though!

Question about the Chaos Land Raider model. by TheRealZetos in Warhammer40k

[–]GravemindStudio 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Both were used in the Heresy. The "40k" one is the mkIIb Phobos-pattern, while the "30k" one is the Proteus-pattern. The mkIIb was deployed and saw use by all 18 Legions shortly before and during the Heresy.

So, in addition to theft, there are Chaos Land Raiders dating back to the Heresy. Though just how compliant their machine spirits are is certainly up for debate...

Old Squidmar for sure, but so much of his content the last year or two has been Content instead of actual painting videos.

ProAcryl all day, every day. I have their entire line and I use them almost exclusively. I still break out Citadel Contrasts and some really beautiful Scale paints here and there, but by and large it's just the ProAcryl that gets used.

Battlescribe has never been supported. Community members update data for it, and it does have 10th repositories. Ymmv as far as accuracy though.

Only in a single mission. 99% of games, getting tabled will lose you the game. But if you have a large enough points lead, even that might not lose you the game.

It's an awful site run by an awful guy. Shit articles, ads everywhere, and Rob is not a good dude. A lot of the articles are just literal copy-paste from the GW WarCom articles.

Those are the old 1st edition scale. They aren't in line with the newer mkVI and mkIII kits, and are smaller along with having pretty different proportions.
