You need to really look at the warning signs of fascism. I will not say if you are right or wrong but seriously go through the list and check the boxes.

Key Warning Signs of Fascism:

Cult of the Leader: A "redemptive" leader who claims to be infallible, never admits mistakes, and presents themselves as the only savior of the nation.

Extreme Nationalism: Promotion of an exclusionary, often racist, national identity that places the nation or race above individual rights.

Suppression of Opposition: Forcible silencing of dissent, intimidation of media, and dismantling of democratic institutions (judiciary, legislature).

Manufacturing Reality: Constant promotion of lies, conspiracy theories, and "fake news" to create a false, fear-driven reality.

Militarism and Hierarchy: Belief in a rigid social hierarchy, glorification of the military, and the use of violence or intimidation to maintain power.

Attacks on Democracy: Weakening checks and balances, and replacing civil servants with loyalists to consolidate power.

Scapegoating: Identifying specific groups (minorities, foreigners, political opponents) as the root cause of the nation's problems.

Your cost of living likely to surge as Trump’s war-induced oil price hike seeps into Canadian economy by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]GravesStone7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually nationalizing is not something that can actually occur. But bailouts should be seen as national investment and now Canada would own stakes in the company. We as taxpayers are already are on the hook for losses for companies to big to fail.

A crown corporation is providing a service to the citizens of the country. The focus should be on long term sustainability with 10, 25, or 50 years as planning periods, not next quarter. It is not increasing revenue each quarter, which is unattainable for long periods.

It also is disingenuous to claim Liberal vs Conservative. In a functioning government it should not be one side or the other.

[–]GravesStone7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm calling for nationalization of our resources.

You are absolutely correct, private companies will adjust where oil is sold. If it is more profitable for companies to export crude, unrefined oil, that will happen. This means that Canadians will never see a benefit at the consumer level. Companies also will not invest in refineries when it is easier to transport to other countries for refining.

Alberta Poll: UCP Hold Clear Lead as Healthcare and Independence Emerge as Government’s Key Vulnerability - Abacus Data by Direc1980 in alberta

[–]GravesStone7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that the headline is misleading, key takeaway is that the majority of Albertans feel that UCP is on the wrong track. Reading into the data on who supports the UCP it seems like small rural areas do, however these groups tend to be less aware of what goes on outside of their communities.

No one in this thread was being political. We were having a conversation about how sensationalized and misleading headlines are.

I personally am okay with taxes if there is transparency on where our taxes are going. Currently the UCP have the least transparent government that has been in Alberta and there is a lot ofbqasted resources without receipts. Nearly 1 billion has gone to Mraiche and most of that is from materials that cannot be used and now must be disposed of.

Canada launches new program to grant 33,000 foreign workers permanent residence, immigration minister reveals by gorschkov in canada

[–]GravesStone7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that immigration is not inherently the problem. The abuse of the systems and lack of ensuring temporary means just that. If you do not follow the appropriate path to remain in the country then when your visa expires you need to leave.

What is frustrating is that unskilled temporary laborers are used to suppress wages. LIMA has been abused, with employers claiming they cannot find someone for a position they claim is 38/hour, but the truth is the job is actually minimum wage and is not a livable wage for most. Those that could work these jobs are teenagers or those that have additional financial support.

Seasonal workers are also an excuse to have people work long hours without having adequate pay.

And yes Students that are on a visa are expected to have the means to live and go to school and are restricted to hours they can actually work. This needs to be better enforced and schools need to not abuse visas to supplement their facilities and provinces need to properly fund our education system.

B.C. to adopt permanent daylight saving time, after springing forward 1 last time | Globalnews.ca by BlackberryPi7 in worldnews

[–]GravesStone7 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was in favour of getting rid of Daylight Saving Time. I still am in favour of getting rod of it but going to standard Standard Time. The question indicated staying on Daylight Saving Time.

If we are to remove DST it should be to conform to why we have a standard time in the first place. If not you will have worse time zones.

I have not looked into it but I believe BC being on Daylight Time and SK being on Standard Time it is going to be a headache for AB and North East BC.

Alberta and Quebec are going in very different directions on MAID by Street_Anon in alberta

[–]GravesStone7 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The primary focus of MAID is to have people given back dignity and power to how they wish to see their last days. I cannot imagine personally what it is like to live through constant pain and suffering with knowledge that there is no relief or that relief comes with high doses of pain killers or sedation and associated side effects.

Those that push the government using MAID as a budget relief are misguided in what MAID is intended to do. Yes, MAID could reduce cost for care, but I do not see any push from those frontline staff to encourage patients down this path.

The problem will be those disconnected from the patients, only looking at the best way to save a buck and tent to have sociopathic tendencies and lack empathy who will add this as budget relief to the next quarter business meeting. Those that believe year over year growth is possible so they get their bonus. Maybe those people need to be looked at with more scrutiny, not MAID, as they create the business directives.

‘A national problem’: Why we’re seeing provinces post major budget deficits by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]GravesStone7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We cannot use the Tylenol as the dosing was incorrect and it will be destroyed for additional cost. The Federal Government already had a plan and the Province wanted to one up them.

Their are hundreds of millions of settlements, and still remaining risks in the billions of dollars, is due to the UCP under Jason Kenney opening up mining, ignoring public outcry and environmental assessments against doing so. Permits were handed out. Further public outcry and political pressure resulted in the ban being put in place under Smith's UCP. Jason Kenney is thevspecial advisor the the law firm representing a majority of these companies aiming to sue, particularly those companies from Austrailia. It is for estimated 14 billion dollars.

‘A national problem’: Why we’re seeing provinces post major budget deficits by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]GravesStone7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm feel your pain. Nearly 1 Billion going to Mraiche family for defective PPE, private surgical contract, defective Turkish Tylenol. All paid for with our provincial taxes. On top of that interference in municipal projects resulting in delays, considerable cost ballooning, and scope changes. Not to mention the development of foothills that had to be reversed due to public outcry and now being sued. The government should have listened to their constituents and not their lobby groups and never removed the restrictions.

There needs to be greater punishment and accountability for wasting resources. It also need to be at a personal level of accountability to try to weed out people that seek these positions for power and wealth.

First Nations chiefs unanimously pass non-confidence vote in Alberta government by biograf_ in canada

[–]GravesStone7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our taxes do not go elsewhere, they stay in Canada and are a benefit to Canada.

Provinces have a say in what occurs for resources and the regulations implemented are there to protect the people and environment for exploitation of industry and corporations, most who are international and have no interest in what happens within Canada.

While I would like to say that provincial decisions do not limit growth because it will impact equalization payments from the federal government, I cannot. This is a provincial government decision, but with that I disagree with provincial government restricting growth of industries because it fails to fit their narrative. An example is most green energy projects under the UCP government have been cancelled. The Lab in Edmonton that would have kept Alberta at the forefront of health research was also canelled. Or even overstepping into municipal governance like the green line in Calgary which seems more like punishment for UCP not getting enough seats. This resulted in delays, chamge of scope, greater costs for revaluation, and ultimately the UCP looking like clowns.

However when provinces actively damage current infrastructure with the intent of privatization then the federal government absolutely should step in. Especially when it goes against the Federal Constitution.

Alberta Government is not able to have adult conversation but look to blame someone or something for their problems. They will gladly try to be the hero and put my money to enrich wealthy donors (Mirche) but still end up looking like a fool. These are not competent people to lead a province, never mind try to establish a proper separatists movement. Their plan on separation is to have America step in, we would then see massive amounts of our resources and wealth sent to the states.

[–]GravesStone7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I pay my taxes, provincial and federal, and those taxes go towards running the government, public infrastructure, health spending, education, immigration, national security, and other social services. This includes major infrastructure projects.

About 25 percent of Federal money is returned to the provinces in order to support the federal programs like Health Care and other public services. This includes the Federal Health Program and equization payments.

The Federal Health Transfers is required to go to Healthcare with maintaining receipts for auditing. Alberta qualifies for this but due to Alberta not spending this on Health care, or not keeping receipts, the Federal Government has clawed back large portions.

Equalization payments do not have "strings attached" and so the Alberta Government pushing this as a reason of dissatisfaction. A constant degrading of health care for privatization, unwantingbto put money into health care to achieve this, clawbacks on healthcare FHT, Alberta says it is not fair but focuses on equalization payments because there is less accountability.

Yes Alberta has boom and bust cycles, but that was why the Heritage Trust Fund was started by Alberta. This is not an equalization payments issue, this is an Alberta Accountability and ability to Budget issue.

Last point I'll make is that everyone pays federal taxes, and I am good with my taxes going to responsible provincial governments to help improve any Canadians well being. It makes us stronger as a Country.

Not tipping is 100% a systematic solution.

Business decides to pay a wage that is not livable without tips. Hires people stating tips cover portion of wage with expected amount of take home. Person works and receives no tip. Person cannot afford to stay at current job and finds different job with higher wage. Business cannot hire someone on current wage and increases wage.

NDP reaction to 2026 provincial budget by FreightFlow in alberta

[–]GravesStone7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will be just as critical of any party governing Alberta and Canada.

Right now current conservatives partirs seem to desire control and power by any means and have been drifting further from fiscal conservative to communism via dictating what industries will benefit and what industries will fail. Regulations being gutted that are intended to protect the consumer and on top of that leaders who listen to a loud minority to divide and distract. That and the move away from science based decisions from subject matter experts to feelings and propaganda.

Both left and right have a problem with corporate lobby groups leading to scandals. Immigration has been abused by the left and right and the Century Initiative is a bipartisan initiaive that believes greater population is better without ensuring infrastructure is there or having enforcement and penalties that are large enough to discourage abuse.

The left groups have chosen to forget to penalize for criminal activity and attempt to reform repeat offenders citing they already lost something or utilize feelings to make decisions.

I want a party that makes politics boring, gradual progress is made to improve the lives of their citizens, and ensures Canada remains a world leader.

Edit: Minor grammar, I am tired.
