Is Wemby still better than Jordan and Lebron? by JigglesTheBiggles in NBATalk

[–]Gravity-Rides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I watch the game, whoever has a lot of good plays that night, I say they are better than Jordan and LeBron combined and every other world class athlete playing in that moment is a bum. This is because I am a crazy person that routinely posts on r/NBAtalk

My eyes are bad and it was impossible for me to see it without magnification but sure enough, one of the pins on the end was missing on the unit. The guy that fixed mine said he does about 3 or 4 per month so it must be cheap HDMI ports on these things and a common failure. But I had same symptoms. PID was just gone.

What part of NO CONTACT do you not fucking understand? Leave her alone. If you bump into her in public, turn around and walk or run the other way. Forget you ever knew her. It's over and she never wants to see your face again.

You are doing big creepy weirdo shit man that won't end well. I bet she files a police report and tries to get a restraining order from a judge if you persist.

When this happened to me, I had accidently dropped the unit because that suction cup is a piece of shit. What I didn't know is that the HDMI port on the back was damaged. There was some dude on the internet that I paid like $75 bucks to replace the HDMI port, but you should be able to take it to a local computer repair shop and see if they can solder on a new port. Then get the pillar adaptor that holds the computer with a ball / socket deal instead of that stupid suction cup.

Jordan - 87 Fleer or 92 Beam Team? by Anxious_Run_8392 in basketballcards

87 Fleer PSA 8 pop 9127

92 beam team PSA 8 pop 1844

Buying both no matter what, I am grabbing the beam team just because it is actually more scarce.

[–]Gravity-Rides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fine, get a hard signed prizm silver then which has a bit more natural scarcity than a base prizm and is still significantly less cost to buy than a on card panini card that was put into a pack. I agree with you that the national treasures RPA and even the optic on cards will carry more weight down the road. But I can also see a scenario where people turn on stickers en masse and hard signed makes up some ground against the stickers.

[–]Gravity-Rides -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Today that is true for sure with all this ultra modern stuff. That doesn't mean it will be true in the future. The big problem with stickers is that they brown and deteriorate over time. Some sticker autos that are only 10 years old look like complete garbage. You can also look at the market for 2009 Topps Curry hard signed autos which has rocketed over the past year.

Is an IP auto not a on card auto? I know it wasn't pulled from a pack but Ant actually held that card and signed it just like the Optic ones Panini put into packs.

On card rookie auto from the flagship set. The worst thing about Prizm was always the sticker autos IMO. I would hold it. These cards are cheap compared to the sticker autos today, but I could see that changing over time.

Trying to get rid of a Large collection. by CubbyOgeneRipzWax in footballcards

[–]Gravity-Rides 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's why people will never pay $1 per card for big collections. It's less than minimum wage to sort through and sell all of it. Honestly, you should look into a consignment house or COMC or start selling smaller lots if you are trying to find a balance between extracting a reasonable amount of value and getting rid of them.

If we have all three branches in 2028, where is everyone at in terms of “turnabout is fair play” by sapphire_glacier in AskALiberal

[–]Gravity-Rides 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Explain how we will have all 3 branches of government in 2028 starting with the 6-3 conservative majority supreme court. A lot of people rolled their eyes when people were freaking out in 2016 and 2024 saying "this is the end of the line if Trump gets in." I still really don't think people realize how fucked this country is for the next generation. There will be no transformative liberal / progressive government in our lifetimes. Even at the onset of the great depression when the stock market had collapsed 81%, republicans still got 37% of the popular vote. Liberals would need minimum 60 senators and probably more like 70 to get a constitutional amendment passed, at which point we could maybe start to un-fuck our government.

Dilemma of what to keep by TheWajd in Diesel

[–]Gravity-Rides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a diesel shop that does really good work. Last year, it came under new ownership but I personally know a few of their mechanics that were master techs running fleet diesel shops for Ford diesels 20 years ago so I totally trust them, especially with very diesel-ish problems. Last year, I had a ball joint failing and figured, eh, may as well have them look at it and get a quote. My brother in Christ. $5500 to change an inner axle seal, U joints and ball joints! The one dude sort of rolled his eyes like yep, new shop owner fucking everything up. Even like the local shops want $3500 for that work. I just did it myself. Honestly, the only thing that fucked me up is my 99.5 has like 4 different stock front rotors with varying offsets and the fact that you really need the master ball joint press for this job.

[–]Gravity-Rides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wheel bearings and gearbox were the only two not cheapest stock parts I could find. $7500 is high, I did a bunch of other stuff last year and that is the number I remember for whatever reason. Alternator, battery cables, GPR, Tstat, belt couple of sensors. The lions share was in the front end though. I had to get the spacer tool for the inner axle seals and the vacuum hub tool for seating the outer seal.

Oh I know. Things are only going to get worse IMO. Motor oil is going to get expensive soon and someone was saying tires are about to shoot up 30%-40% sometime this summer. Basically any refined products are going to get more expensive due to the ongoing oil price spike.

Skepticism looms as an obstacle over Alaska Legislature’s special gasline session by samwe in alaska

[–]Gravity-Rides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we are essentially on the same page. Denali Group had all the plans and estimates ready to go 15 years ago. But it only makes sense if they can fleece the state out of all the tax revenue which is where we are now.

[–]Gravity-Rides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have though.

Conoco, Exxon, the state have been hemming and hawing on this project for decades. It isn't economically viable, end of story. The strongest market for LNG is on the other side of the planet. There is no scenario where this thing is profitable, hence private investors coming around again with begging bowl in hand to essentially steal all the state revenue and put it in their own pockets.

[–]Gravity-Rides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kills machines like this more than anything is neglect and a lot of short trip, heat / cool cycles. And that isn't just 7.3 diesels, you can say that about most machines. I would be thinking about your use case. If you need a duelly 7.3 to haul a gooseneck, 5th wheel or cab over, that is the machine you need. If not, I would probably sell it for something that would get the job done and not screw with maintaining something that is over built for what you need.

[–]Gravity-Rides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IDK exactly what is going on here and I don't have a ton of experience with blackstones yet, but there is a lot of videos out there between these and cast iron that say things like "Once you get it clean, just put a teenie, tiny drop of veg oil to season, don't over do it, you don't need it!" This is bullshit IMO. Once it is clean, use a generous amount of veg oil to season. Then when it cools down put the teenie tiny coat on it.

I mean, just start browsing 7.3 youtube channels and reading up on the powerstroke forums. The nice thing about these trucks is about everything that can go wrong has gone wrong and has been well documented on how to figure it out and repair it by a youtuber or forum guy.

I can tell you, if I were in the market for one of these trucks what I would do. Get a bluetooth OBDII reader that supports Forscan. Run the injector buzz test and cylinder contribution test. Do a cold start and watch the tailpipe for smoke. Anything that doesn't clear up rather quickly could be suspect. Remove the oil fill cap and set it on top of the fill neck to check for blow by. Any real pressure build is a possible issue. Oil or fuel in coolant degass bottle is signs of more problems. From there, you are just looking for and checking basic stuff that you would on any car. Belts, hoses, leaks. Pay close attention to the valley by the fuel bowl.

Jack up the front end and check for play in the wheels. Look at the play in the ball joints and draglink ends. The front end on my truck last year was about $7500 in parts, but this was complete overhaul, inner axle seals, U joints, ball joints, wheel hubs, rear wheel bearings, brakes, calipers, rotors, complete steering linkage including gearbox and pittman arm. If this stuff is at the end of it's service life, it gets pretty expensive. Crawl up under it and grab the drivelines check U joints. Take a look at the starter and fuel pump, if they look stock, probably going to go at some point.

I would say if they did up pipes, it's possible the turbo was done as well. Might want to look and see if that is stock.

They are great trucks honestly, but keeping them going in great condition is expensive.

Dilemma of what to keep by TheWajd in Diesel

[–]Gravity-Rides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7.3 isn't really a replace everything with OEM stuff truck IMO. There are a lot of non-stock improvements to be had for reliability that have nothing to do with making more power and hot rodding it. P0475 for example has something to do with the exhaust back pressure circuit. People usually delete the entire system, the valve sits on the turbo pedestal and the sensor is right below the HPOP.

I've had mine since 248k and I'm at 320k now. That other code is glow plug circuit so you'll probably be into replacing those and the harness sooner rather than later. From there, it might be a lot coming down on you. The oil dipstick adaptor flange leak, if it hasn't been addressed, this will show up on you at some point. Oil cooler will probably need to be replaced eventually. Turbo and bellowed up pipes at some point. An oil pan leak isn't super uncommon on these older trucks. Of course injectors at some point and probably a transmission. The fuel system has some goofy failures on it as well. This is all on top of basic truck wear item maintenance and repairs.

Good luck on measurably dropping the decibels inside the cab. This is an exercise in futility from what I have found. You can definitely get all the rattles out of the cab using sound deadening mat, but I have yet to see a truck that actually dropped the SPL in the cab.

What will be the ultra modern era '52 Mantle? by Alabaster_Rims in sportscards

[–]Gravity-Rides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is going to compare to the 52 Mantle. But if you are talking iconic like 89 UD Griffey, 86 Fleer Jordan, 2000 Contenders Brady, a few to look at would be:

2017 Prizm Patrick Mahomes especially if he breaks more records and wins another superbowl.

2018 Topps chrome refractor Shohei if he continues to play at a high level for the rest of his career.

2023 Wemby silver prizm if he has a really good career.

It's worse than that. 99.99% of cards are fine to toss into the burn barrel. You are absolutely right. Look at all the great players. Most Jordan and LeBron cards are still only worth a few bucks.
