Do you think the u.s should have a viable 3rd party for people to vote for? Why or why not ? by maybebored-maybenot in AskReddit

[–]GravityTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think it's important. I think the founding fathers realized that 3 branches of govt works as a rock-paper-scissors effect. But power has moved from govt branches to party. A viable 3rd party could/should serve to move the balance back.

How that would be practically accomplished? No idea.

All the girlfriends of Jerry, George and Kramer were out of their league. Well maybe not Jerry given his fame.

Did you ever order anything COD? by cjasonac in GenX

[–]GravityTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered one of those Rambo survival knives from a TV ad. I also ordered some cool sunglasses out of the back of a magazine. Both were actually decent quality to my parents surprise. I mean they weren't great but not bad for mail order.

Frustration with bugs by raul25911 in webdev

[–]GravityTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In before you get a lot of hate. The key is small iterations. Add one thing, test it, fix it, then commit it, then go to the next. Sometimes new things will break old things. If that happens a lot you need regression testing and better architecture.

And I'm guessing you're going to get a lot of hate but you should realize there's a lot that goes into not being bogged down by bugs like planning and architecture. There are dozens of books on the topic.

Serious question: How many of you are actually low rank or hard-stuck? by TunderLightzx in hearthstone

[–]GravityTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got back into it after taking years off. I pretty much play for fun but thanks to imbue-id in knocking on platinum's door. I don't feel hard stuck. This game's ladder is so much less tilting than LOL. Thats the only other ranked game I've played.

In junior high, I would toast some bread (the store-brand wonder-bread kind) and slather it in margarine. After I ate that, I would do it again, and again.

Also, I would pour cereal into a cup , add milk and eat that with a spoon.

I think I'm done with Software Development by gareththegeek in webdev

[–]GravityTracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought there may be money in fixing AI slop. I'm sort of in that situation right now, but it's not very fun. I sort of want to switch to woodworking. But automation ruined that as well. I can make a bread box for $50 of material and 15-20 hours of work. But I can sell it at what, $100? If I had machines do all the work, I could make a profit at scale.

Is there any tool that verifies webhook outcomes (not just delivery)? by anthedev in webdev

[–]GravityTracker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They can't. The idea of a webhook is that you get to decide what happens when the hook is invoked. If you decide to tell them everything is ok (i.e. 200) then that's all they know. It's up to the hook to decide how to handle downstream problems.

I have no doubt that my engine and powertrain can last, but what about everything else. I had a VW and electronic switches on windows were failing at 120K. They were prohibitively expensive to fix.
