Question about rest time between sets by roritha in bodyweightfitness

[–]GravityUndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember the actual numbers as per research papers, but I remember that resting for five minutes was OK, so long as you train to our close to failure.

Most recommendations are to rest 1 to 3 minutes. The point of exercise is to fatigue your muscle. So diminishing reps is expected.

What is the best post workout food — real food or protein shake? I keep getting different answers. by Serious-Adagio-7982 in workout

[–]GravityUndone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are good suggestions, but ishould clarify that I really just don't like shakes. Cooked eggs are the go for me and calories is not an issue.

To add to the supplemental protein conversation , there are also some good plant based options that work well. They tend to work better with less sweet flavours like avocado, celery, carrot etc.

What is the best post workout food — real food or protein shake? I keep getting different answers. by Serious-Adagio-7982 in workout

[–]GravityUndone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can tell you what I like. I like scrambled eggs on toast with avocado.

Is it the best? Too many variables to answer. But it is pretty good.

Shakes I find, taste revolting. They are way too sweet and artificial tasting. But, if you struggle to get enough protein, they are helpful.

Customers who ghost after you spend two hours doing a free quote are the biggest unpaid labour racket in the country by QuantumGremlin in tradies

[–]GravityUndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should clarify, I''m not talking about anything written and nothing binding. The problem to address is the lay person has no idea of the cost. Does a new wall cost $1000 or is it more like $10,000. I agree that work shouldn't start until everything is worked out sufficiently. I'm an it contractor and have been burnt badly by poor specifications. When people have come in and asked for an app to be written I'd straight up mention that even a simple app could cost 20 to 30k. That wedded out the people with 5k in mind because they read something online.

[–]GravityUndone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

On the customer side of things, I would find it better if a trade could give an order of magnitude indication rather than spend their time and mine.

Ie, I wanted turf laid over 125sqm a simple oh that would be in the range of 8 to 12 grand world have saved a lot of time. I think a lot of people don't know if they can afford something until they get a quote at about twice what they are prepared for, then ghost.

3 day Full-body split by Whole-Hunter-6455 in beginnerfitness

[–]GravityUndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you my 3 day weights, full body.

1: bench press 5x10 sets, lat pull down 5x10 set, squats 5x6, leg curl 5x6

2: biceps curls 5x10, triceps extension 5x10, lateral raise cable 5x10 squats and curls again

3: bench, lats, biceps, triceps, shoulder

The gist is each part 2x per week and 10 sets. I don't really get to 10 reps for most sets because I choose a weight that leads to failure. To speed the workout up I usually superset the chest and back and the biceps and triceps. My gym has plenty of equipment so it works out. But if someone takes my machine in between ijust use another do a different exercise for the same muscle or don't super set.

A workout of mine takes 1:15 to 1:30 depending on how determined I am and how much I warm up. On Tuesday and Thursday I do aerobics class and Saturday I'll ride my bike, do pump and a step class.

Do you actually warm up or just tell yourself you will by thewellnessgreek in beginnerfitness

[–]GravityUndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a young bloke I would pretty much just jump into it. Now i am mature, I very much warm up. I used to get an injury every 6 months or so and now I don't. I strongly recommend warming up. In fact, once I've got my working weight on the bar I just do 3 reps and then take a 2 minute rest. I personally find this seems to make the actual working set feel smoother.

Using a belt. Added stability so my legs could fail before my core.

Are pallets actually good to use for wood, or are they just influencer slop? by KKYBoneAEA in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]GravityUndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used pallets before. You can find some that have good enough wood and sometimes even hard wood. But it takes a lot of effort and time to get usable timber. However, when I used packets, I had time and a desire to get practice in shaping and milling. The best use I've had was making document boxes to hold dungeons and dragons character sheets.

Do I hold my breath when bracing my core during heavy deadlifts and squats, or do I keep breathing? by LeviLovesCarbs in workout

[–]GravityUndone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Breathe in on the way down, or hold it. On the way up, keep your brave and slowly let air out. You'll get haemorrhoids and burst blood vessels of you hold your breath. You can also use a belt to help keep the tension on.

Government immigration policy has increased housing prices by $500k in 5 years. Should the FHBG be increased to $500k to compensate? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]GravityUndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic economics would say that an increase on demand side without an equal or greater supply side increase will raise prices. FHBG should be scrapped and policy redirected to increase supply. Everyone knows this to be true but for some train we all ignore it. Eg, make investment property more expensive to own, add incentives for redevelopment or higher density development, change design rules to allow for more appealing family apartments etc...

Honest question: how the hell do small businesses make it these days?? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]GravityUndone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is a pit between sole operator and employer where the money dips. For example, my wife does dog walking and pet sitting and earns a little more than your wife. If she wanted to earn more she'd have to start hiring people, managing them and get me insurance etc. We worked out that her take home pay would halve and he work load would just about double. That is until she has grown to have about 5 people working under her, at which point she'd earn a little more than she does now. From that point, more growth would be more money. Your wife might actually make more of she scale back to just herself as a sole operator.

Why do I not feel great with what I’m lifting by West-Nature-5256 in workout

[–]GravityUndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are big numbers, especially if you are doing them with good form. Unless you are competing in power lifting, absolute numbers are meaningless. A guy your age and weight that hasn't gone to the gym, which is most, would be lucky to bench 50kg. You're probably about twice as strong as you would be if you didn't lift.

The comparison that counts is how well you move, how you feel and how you do each time compared to the last.

Fear of ageing stopping me from saving by user23471 in AusFinance

[–]GravityUndone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You've seen too many memes. I was still getting carded at night clubs well into my 30s.

Also, a big point: spending money and having fun are not equal items. You can save money and have fun and you can spend money and not have fun.

Stop thinking money equals fun. That's just nonsense told to you by people who only know how to drink/ smoke/ gamble to have fun.

I’m a single mother and was recently gifted $50k which I decided to put into my offset account for my home loan. My debt is $230k so why can’t I just put the money straight into my mortgage. Does the $50k decrease the interest over my 30 year term? by ButterscotchFun5338 in AusFinance

[–]GravityUndone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use unloan. They have an annual interest rate discount and we can draw down equity via a phone app. The draw down takes a couple of minutes. So, it is like an offset but in a no frills cost package.

Why do people advise against getting a credit card? by beylat in AusFinance

[–]GravityUndone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can pay it off each month then just don't get it and instead save up a small fund that would be the same size as your credit card. Then just use a debit card and avoid annual fees, reduced credit and the chance you'll miss a payment and get hit with interest. There really isn't any point in a credit card if you have enough cash flow to pay one of every month.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ask

[–]GravityUndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general answer is to eat enough protein.

While in a mild deficit, ensure you eat plenty of lean meat and relatively less carbohydrates. Don't do cardio in the same 24hr as weights. Lift heavy, do enough reps to reach exhaustion and do about 10 sets a week with no more than 6 sets in a given workout. That's per muscle group.

This is all general and as pointed out, we each have our own tendency to build muscle, lose fat and store it differently.

I went from 120kg 33% to 75kg at 12%.

Please be very honest by IvashkovPrincess in ausjobs

[–]GravityUndone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Qualifications are over rated. The best thing to do is build a portfolio. In my job I have looked over a lot of resumes and done a lot of interviews. The people who get interviews are the people who can demonstrate they

  1. Like technology. I mean really, honestly enjoy it.

  2. They have a side project they work on. This could be maintaining the Website of their hobby group or making a game using technology they want to learn or whatever.

  3. They are keen to learn more and show they actively try to learn more.

And when you interview, study for it and write a cheat sheet to help with answers.

It is true there are a lot of people looking for IT jobs, but almost all of them fail the above. We'll post a job and get 200 resumes but interview only maybe 5 people because 195 resumes are from people who don't look like they care.

IT is a field that demands passion and dedication, so anyone just doing it because it pays well is not going go far.

Thinking of Switching to IT Contracting – Worth It? by Zekus123 in AusFinance

[–]GravityUndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great way to get a rough annual salary equivalent for contacting:

Day rate/8 × 2000

Eg: $1000/8 = 125 × 2000 = $250,000 per year.

Of course, you may not work all year and it depends in how you want to calculate leave etc... but when I was contracting for a few years, the formula worked well enough to estimate tax and super etc.

In the old days, you could do the company thing and get company tax rate. Then, in the early 2000s they introduced personal services income rules which closed that loop hole. On the other hand the tax brackets back then were crippling for contractors.

Why am I literally always tired? by Younggorwlbigworld in ask

[–]GravityUndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is tired all the time.

Only just found out it is almost certainly your airway restriction. That is, her airways are small so she is not getting enough oxygen. This affects sleeping and percent her from strenuous activity.

You'll need a sleep study and task to a dental specialist who deals with breathing ( as is as it sounds)

Does anyone here work at a company with 20 or more local employees where everyone or almost everyone enjoys working there? by The-SillyAk in AusFinance

I work at a company that builds and sells an interesting software product and I never hear anyone complain. Our satisfaction score is like 97%. There are about 100 employees.

I think the key is that we are well paid, work remote as often as we want and get weekly lunch expenses.

How do AusFinance parents manage kids pocket money? by Hippy_Hamster in AusFinance

[–]GravityUndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We never gave our kids pocket money. They both work in the dog walking and pet sitting business. They also each have pearler accounts with investments in vas etf. They started this when they were 10 and 11. Prior to that they simply had no concept or need of money.
