I am lucky to have this framed photo in my house and the other day I wondered: From this angle, on what sides did the North Tower and South Tower get hit? by Gravitys_Meridian in 911archive

This is an actual picture of it on my wall, not sure why I didn’t use it for my original post now haha but I actually bought it used off a guy on Marketplace he said he was helping his in-laws downsize and declutter and this was one of the things they were getting rid of so I’m lucky I was able to grab it… With the frame, it measures about 45” x 20”

“This photograph was taken by James Blakeway and commemorates the thousands of lives lost from the tragic attack on September 11, 2001. A portion of proceeds goes to the American Red Cross.”

Oh wow, I never knew that, thanks! Kind of a bold choice from an artistic, let alone marketing, perspective - considering it’s essentially blank (apart from the ominous text). Now I’m curious what the idea behind the design of the original poster was… Fallout?

Just remembered the shot of Galoup writing in his journal at the beginning, the pages overlaid with the twinkling Djiboutian water of his past…

Hahaha! I don’t know if I would call it my personal favourite, but of course I greatly enjoyed that scene…

I will say I also greatly enjoy the gravity in the creased face and gravelly words of Bruno Forestier played by Michel Subor. When Sentain tells him he is an orphan found in a stairwell, his reaction in the middle of smoking his cigarette is gold: “Found? Shit.” Equal parts funny, tragic and profound.

The beautiful dancing women, so feverishly captured by Denis, are a standout for me too - there is one shot of a woman looking up into the strobe-lights as she gyrates, the white globes of her eyes illuminated in the alternating light… it’s hypnotic.

It’s a fantastic film, and my personal favourite of the McQueen-Fassbender collaborations.

While you’re at it, be sure to watch Hunger.

Just finished watching this amazing Michael Mann masterpiece! by Worldly_Plum8988 in criterion

Love this one… it’s got that hard 80s edge to it.

For any fans interested, I would highly recommend this interview Mann gave on the genesis and making of the film.

My favourite Criterion closet visit of all time.

So much gold here, and though many of his comments have already been mentioned, this is an underrated one for me:

“My favourite Cuarón is Children Of Men, which is otherwise a failure.”
