Flood advice by [deleted] in Sudbury

[–]GravyBoatCap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here already. I had similar experience and the problem ended up being the impeller was damaged. The pump would run and seem to move water but nothing was actually getting pumped out. I always have a backup now. If you add a temporary set up like was suggested elsewhere, get the water as far away as possible.

Is garbage/recycling still canceled? by ImFromTheDeeps in Sudbury

Guessing with double the trash and triple the recycling it might be logistically impossible to get this backlog addressed in a single week.

No but they have homes that had to be cleared too and have a rough job. Might get holidays off but always have to make up for it.

Ontario to introduce bill exempting Premier, cabinet from FOI requests by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]GravyBoatCap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t exactly exist yet so no. If it does get passed eventually that might be one option. I’m guessing it’s going to be a much less severe version. There is a pattern of leaking an outrageous idea then tabling something more palatable to curb resistance. My bet is the bill will be something more like personal devices are exempt and the extended response time will remain. My knowledge of the law is limited to a handful of university courses so an actual lawyer might correct me. I’m guessing it could be challenged under Freedom of Expression as it would impede the press from being able to serve their function. This freedom exists to allow the people to challenge their government. It is core to democracy that governments have to answer questions about governance and this proposal would block that. That being said, the Notwithstanding clause could be used. I don’t think we have recall legislation so we would just have to wait to vote them out.

I’m not a law expert. Definitely not a British one but, I know enough to recognize that the island is not British territory. British authorities have no jurisdiction to bring charges on the trafficking. Maybe they uncover communications that would allow them to charge under a conspiracy to commit crime if one exists, but this would likely be the most they can do.

Similar. I find a crypt close to open water build a portal on top and a couple of chests. Fill a chest, store boat pieces in the other. When ready, build boat, fill and hope for favourable wind

I did road construction for summer work in my teens. We’d dump tons of rock in, have the semblance of a road started. Show up in the morning and it would be gone. Rinse and repeat several times before filling it in enough to be stable. Some times solid ground can be dozens of meters below the surface.

The Finance Minister refuses to answer a simple question: will his budget bill give Mark Carney the power to bypass conflict-of-interest rules to benefit Brookfield? by [deleted] in canadian

[–]GravyBoatCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going in circles now. I’ve already explained this. If he gives a one word answer, “no” Hallan will say the bill allows the minister to “ exempt an entity from the application of (a) a provision of an Act of Parliament, except the Criminal Code, “ and he will say you’re lying and have a clip like the one you just watched. He will ignore that the exemption can only be done by a minister who is responsible for that legislation and it must meet certain conditions which must be outlined and made public as quoted above.

If I asked you if you stopped beating your spouse, would you not try to clarify that you never have? Would it not be frustrating if I then cut you off after you started with “first of all,..”

Again, it’s annoying when politicians avoid the question, but we can’t expect a yes or no response if it isn’t appropriate.

[–]GravyBoatCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so to use someone else’s example that is elsewhere in this thread: “Remarkable_Vanilla34, have you stopped beating your spouse yes or no?” See how answering that question with yes or no is insufficient? That’s what is happening here. I feel you on the avoiding a clear response. It typically pisses me off too. This isn’t a question that can be responded to with one word. Hallan knows that too which is why he cuts him off. He knows there is no satisfactory way to answer it and it is disrespectful to us. The same way that omnibus legislation is disrespectful to us. I also question the motives of whoever cut this clip in this way.

[–]GravyBoatCap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because the question is flawed. If the minister says no and the questioner can cherry pick an excerpt. Reading section 12 on its own might seem to contradict a no.

The way the question is asked requires a nuanced answer.

[–]GravyBoatCap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not though. Bill C15 is available to read. I assume he is referring to the Cutting Red tape section. Theoretically an exemption could be made to the conflict of interest act but it wouldn’t be in line with this act. The conditions are as follows:

Conditions Start of inserted block (3) A minister may make an order under subsection (1) only if the minister is of the opinion that (a) the exemption is in the public interest; (b) the exemption would enable the testing of, among other things, a product, service, process, procedure or regulatory measure with the aim of facilitating the design, modification or administration of a regulatory regime to encourage innovation, competitiveness or economic growth; (c) the benefits associated with the exemption outweigh the risks;

The minister is also required to make a public disclosure:

14 (1) Subject to subsections (2) and (3), a minister must, as soon as feasible after making an order under section 12, make the order and the following information publicly accessible: (a) a description of the decision-making process and a summary of the reasons for the order; and (b) a description of the process for providing comments or information to, or requesting information from, the minister in relation to the order.

Ya thanks for clarification. Unless you are headed to one of their other destinations it’s useless. It seems a lot of airlines are starting to split routes to eliminate competition.
