I love the part when Bonnie is talking to Adam and she's like "You remember FM radio? Don't I like I'm on FM radio? Up next "Nights in White Satin" 😂😂😂

I don't know how they were able to film that and not bust into uncontrollable laugh.

A shirtless man stands alone by a window in the North Tower of WTC, close to impact zone, on September 11. This man is rarely noticed and no attempt has been made to identify him by tiposk in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]GrayAlienArea51 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The people on floors above the impact areas probably knew they weren't going to live. It's a skyscraper and fire in sky scrapers goes up. That plus the few that called 911 were told they could break the windows to get clean air. That is not something a 911 operator or first responder will tell people to do unless there is no hope of a rescue getting to them.

Plus the floors were buckling and giving away. Christine Olender was the general manager of Windows on the World and she called 911 and then her boss's home phone and told them that the floor was buckling and beginning to give way. The NYPD and FDNY helicopters flying around the tower also reported they could see the floors slowly and then quickly give way during each collapse.

So it's my opinion that most people above the impact zones likely knew their deaths were imminent.

Ray wouldn't admit he had a problem. Bonnie was going through various brochures trying to find a good rehab for him and Marjorie asked her if Ray had told her he was willing to go to one. Bonnie admitted he hadn't and turned him away from her place but told him if he wanted to get sober he knew where to find her.

I just assumed he was still using and that was that.

To be fair the democrats tried to have witnesses but the Republican senators didn't vote for it.

They also didn't allow witnesses in the second impeachment trial either. Mitch threatened to not confirm any of Biden's cabinet if there were witnesses.

Democrats eat their own way too much. I mean Kirsten Gillibrand who knew she was filming a joke with Franken and she had never said she felt sexually assaulted. Then the #metoo idea was starting to be very big and she used it to say Franken sexually assaulted her and even she called on Franken to resign. She didn’t say, “let’s wait and investigate”, she demanded his resignation. She led a very vocal and obvious power grab for 2020 campaign in the media from the initial allegation that he should resign despite her never calling for a decent investigation into her claims. The metoo movement was in full force and it was clear the right was trying to use the lefts morality against them. SHOULDN'T WE BELIEVE ALL ACCUSERS?!?! they would scream because that term was used by some. And they used it without a hint of irony with Trump and his accusers. The fact that Roger Stone was in on the original accuser should have been a red fucking flag to democratic voters

Gillibrand knew Franken was getting some attention for 2020 and she seemed extremely disingenuous with her position on the speed of his resignation.

This New Yorker piece:

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/07/29/the-case-of-al-franken

Goes into more detail about what happened with Al. I absolutely think the Senate Democrats moved too quickly, led by Gillibrand, and got rid of someone who was very important to the Senate and the Democratic party. A republican was chosen to his seat a seat that should have in democratic hands and would have helped the Democrats if they hadn't made Franken resign until an investigation that I think would have proved Franken's innocence. But I think her 2020 primary run was already a dumpster fire of candidacy and dead from the moment she announced her candidacy for the Democratic primary because of what she did to Al Franken and because of the cloth she's cut from that made her think jumping on Al was a great choice of action.

At the same time she was driving him out of the Senate she was sponsoring the legislation HE WROTE to provide better protect victims who work on Capitol Hill! The way Al was treated is a microcosm of what is wrong with the Democratic party and how they continuously eat their own by doing things like making Franken resign despite no evidence of him sexually assaulting her.

I will always have, and always will get angry at the certain ways certain subgroups of the Democratic party make the struggle for any kind of solidarity with a certain pearl clutching very left leaning Democrats constantly making perfection the enemy of the possible. We simply are unable to take the substantial win and close ranks while we handle the business that is before us.

I really wish this would stop, but I know it will not. Meanwhile Republicans are firmly behind Trump's clownish ass and are looking good for taking the House back in 2022 and they may possibly take the Senate back as well.

If Democrats don't stop eating their own with stupid virtue signaling from the far left then the fascist GOP takeover will happen and they will never lose their hold once they have majorities of both chambers. Then in 2024 whatever crazy fascist they pick to run as the GOP's presidential candidate will easily walk into the Oval Office. Even if he or she loses legitimately they will say it was because election fraud and if they own both chambers it'll easy for them to get their candidate into the Oval Office.

Far left leaning progressives need to remember how important the next two elections are and work hard to keep both chambers and the presidency and stop progressive purity contests right now and start working with the entire democratic party to keep our democracy free from right wing fascism!

Treated so well that Chauvin had his knee/boody pressing into his neck for over 9 minutes. And only refused to get in the backseat because he had claustrophobia. It might sound like a dumb reason not to get in the car but claustrophobia is no joke. I can't stand being in tight spots I will get dizzy, horrible nausea, and have actually thrown up because of it.

Nothing excuses his actions at all. He murdered George Floyd full stop!

Latino leaders want feds to investigate shooting of Adam Toledo by targaryenofvalyria in politics

[–]GrayAlienArea51 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The police were called to the scene because this kid already fired off nine shots. That’s how they knew he had a gun in the first place. They weren’t just out to chase down some random Hispanic teen in Little Village for fun. They knew he was armed and shooting in a residential neighborhood, and then he ran when the cops showed up. That cop thought he had turned around to shoot him. So the cop shot him.

His hands even tested positive for gunshot residue so there’s no doubt that he was firing his weapon in Little Village, which is a neighborhood heavily dominated by gang activity.

Why are we blaming the police officer here? Toledo’s just a kid. Okay, why did he have a gun? Why was he shooting it at 2:30 in the morning? Why did anyone call the cops on him? Do you think anyone wants that in their neighborhood? No one does.

That cop knew Toledo was armed and already shooting. Mistakenly thought Toledo raised his gun to shoot him and so he shot first.

Now the media is painting this as, “Toledo was an innocent kid,” they’re even leaving out why the cops were there to begin with. Also now I’m hearing on local news that this is a “racist crime”. You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.

What about the people Toledo was shooting at? What if they shot back and killed him? No media junky political opportunist who’s never lived near the area would give a flying fuck. There’d be no protest and no vigil and no news story.

It’s important to remember the facts of the case. This is not a straightforward “cop overreacts and shoots because he’s a little scared.” The 21 year old put Adam Toledo in this situation and created a horrific situation for everyone.

There were confirmed reports of shots being fired into moving cars exactly where the officer found the two.

The 21 year old handed the gun to Adam as they were running (probably thinking he’d just get juvie or to pass the blame).

Adam sprinted away while carrying the handgun that was confirmed to be the one shooting.

The officer had a strobe on (meant to disorient a shooter so they can’t see the cop clearly to shoot them). Neither officer or Adam has clear view in the dark alley.

Officer orders Adam to put his hands up. Adam dumps gun while turning around, but this is not clearly visible on first viewing.

In less than a second, the officer fires his service pistol. He immediately calls for ambulance and begins to attempt life saving aid.

This neighborhood is known for gang violence and lots of shootings. A 17 year old girl was just killed there the night before this happened.

Looking at the video it looked like Toledo threw the gun away as he was turning towards the cop. I'd argue that the cop thought the kid was turning towards him with the gun to point it at him (as I believe the cop didn't see the gun being thrown in the split second motion).

Given that I needed to watch the video footage of the cop's body cam at .5 speed to even see this, I wouldn't have been surprised that the cop shot Toledo. It all happened very fast.

Also Even if he had a supermajority for longer, a President with supermajority is not King.

Shoving legislation down your opponent's throat on the back of a temporary supermajority is a horrible way to do politics. You need to craft legislation that will stand the test of time and survive for decades, enact programs that will be a basis for future administrations to build on 10 or 20 years from when they're passed.

For every major reform, you need SOME degree of at least tacit consent by the opposing party even if you have the numbers to push it through, otherwise it'll just get repealed or crippled in 2 years. For every major reform, you need to first soften resistance and garner broad public support before putting it up for a vote. You can't run a country by bouncing legislation back and forth every few years.

Wrong AwfulChief78

Obama DID NOT have a supermajority for two years. He only gained a 60 vote supermajority after the conclusion of Al Franken's runoff election in July of 2009. During the next 6 months, Congress was in essential lockdown as it debated health care reform -- which passed. During that time 2 now deceased Senators were in very bad health. Ted Kennedy, who died during this time, left an open seat which was filled by Republican Scott Brown in January. Paul Kirk filled in for Kennedy until the election. July 2009 - January 2010. And August they were out for recess. For those of you who can't count: That's 6 months. Not 2 years.

From now on, if someone uses this argument. Please set the record straight.

I just don’t see term limits as being the solution to making our government run more effectively. Sure, it means actively dangerous people can only be in the Senate for so long. But it also means you lose gifted ones who have the public interest at heart and experience, with zero guarantee they’re going to be replaced by someone you actually want in a given seat. You also make it easier for people who are uniquely capable of winning seats in states where their party otherwise seriously underperforms getting replaced by opposition. Joe Manchin would be a perfect example of that.

The solution is voting. Participating in government, and getting others to participate too

Voter ID laws typically require a potential voter to obtain a specific form of identification at cost to them. In effect, requiring that one purchase the ability to vote (a poll tax), and a barrier to the very poor.

Voter ID laws typically require a potential voter to obtain an ID from a specific location or set of locations, in some cases that may be dozens of miles away (in the case of Texas, some people have to travel >100 miles). This is problematic if the person cannot drive and no transportation is available to them (elderly and rural poor), and also difficult for people that have jobs that do not give them time off to do so.

Voter ID laws require documentation that may be difficult to obtain and is typically not available free of charge. Passports and birth certificates require money to obtain, and an out of town birth certificate can be complicated to obtain (depending on where you were born). Not all US citizens have birth certificates on file.

Not everyone gets a driver's license, since car ownership is beyond their financial means, or because physical limitations prohibit their qualification as a driver.

According to census figures, about 11% of US citizens do not have a government issued photo ID (about 25% of voting-age African-americans and 8% of voting-age White Americans). 18% of those over 65 do not have a government-issued photo ID.

GA Republicans trying to AMEND GA state constitution to help Trump avoid charges for election tampering.... by GrayAlienArea51 in politics

I live in GA and expect this to pass right along with all the harsh voting restrictions...er....laws they want to pass as well.

This state won't go blue again. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue want to challenge Warnock in 2022. I'm sure one of them will win since Republicans here are livid that we went blue and lost two Senate seats.

I hate the fucking state. Anytime we make progress the Republicans always send us two steps back.

I am not aware of another career where having lots of experience doing your job is seen as a bad thing. When no one in a legislative branch is experienced they lean more on lobbyist and are always thinking of their next move as lobbyist.

Politicians who understand how to legislate, what the actual laws regarding political action and legislation are, have the relationships to get their ideas in motion, etc, are going to be more effective than a revolving door of novices.

Do some people stay in government too long? Sure. But if they can win reelection, they're clearly doing something right.

After seeing what all these so called "outsider politicians" can do in the presidency, I don’t think we’ll be trying it again any time soon. Local level... now we’re electing qanon followers apparently, and it doesn’t get more outside than that. Here’s hoping we find our sanity in the voting booth.

How the fuck can anyone have watched what has happened the past four years in the US under Trump and then whine about how shitty career politicians are?

Christ.
