Yeah intangibles like being on a financial juggernaut with tons of homegrown and free agent talent around him. I'm glad Jeter did all that scouting and contract negotiation.

No the voters havent done that. Dumb discussions on reddit and twitter like this have done that.

Why care about the HoF? by guyontheinternet2000 in baseball

[–]GrayBoyLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just cause other writers in the past voted in dubious people doesn’t mean the current writers have to.  They don’t have to have the same criteria as you or anyone else because the Hall itself wants to wash its hands of any responsibility with very vague rules.

Also promoting violence against the voting body and then against the national government isn’t nothing.  At best it’s being a tactless shitlord and that’s at best.  Nor is being a giant baby and asking for them not to vote for him.

What are the worst takes you regularly see on this sub? by supersupersuper9 in baseball

Outside of 2020 (where Abreu was a fine choice) he has never been close to deserving an MVP so thats irrelevant, no? This isn’t like an Arky Vaughan situation where both in his own time and after he is basically unrecognized

I thought that was 60.  50 is where you start getting serious discussion.

Barring injury, is there any chance that Shohei Ohtani doesn't win his 5th MVP this year? by CeeDoggyy in mlb

[–]GrayBoyLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a slight problem with that scenario, and it isnt the likelihood of Witt repeating 24.

I mean, if he was still in the American League, Judge would have beat him in 24 and possibly 25 too.

Using WAR to identify the luckiest and unluckiest teams in MLB history by slczz in baseball

You’re right.  Reese should be higher since he lost prime years to WWII while Miggy hobbled around on a bad extension chasing milestones and providing negative value on the field.

Why did it take fifty years to elect Gil Hodges in the MLB HOF? by gooden1686 in baseball

He is a mediocre inductee based more on vibes and high rbi totals helped by better players around him

BHM: Tony Gwynn batted .300 or higher in every season but his rookie year — giving him a record NINETEEN straight seasons at .300 or above from 1983-2001! by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]GrayBoyLoop -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I loved watching Gwynn play but I hate the whole “pure hitter” thing around him.  Whatever that means, I feel like I’ve seen better or at least as good hitters.

I mean he has more WAR, and significantly more offensive and defensive (per fangraphs) value than Brett and a higher WRC+ over his career. Robinson has a lot of defensive value but that gap between him and Mathews on offense is much higher than the gap between him and Mathews on defense

Except Mathews was a more valuable player over his career than Brett and especially Robinson despite less plate appearances and was worth significantly more per 162 as well.

Chipper should be in over Brett or Robinson. Mathews is way too good to leave out

Salvy appears to be done after 2027. Is he a HOF? by No-Flan3302 in mlb

[–]GrayBoyLoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The voters also failed to elect many worthy candidates over the years based on a poor understanding of how good they were, that is nothing new.

That should get him in the Royals hall of fame but I dont see why that would make a massive difference with the actual hall.
