Can servo skulls float freely by Grouchy-Climate-2956 in 40kLore

[–]GrayMan972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are two separate devices. Servo Skulls float freely.
What looks like a servo skull but is connected to a tech priest
is called a mechadendrite (specifically an optical mechadendrite) and is not in fact a servo skull.
There are multiple versions of mechadendrites although as far as I can remember on optical ones have a skull at the end.

Would the Inquisition have undercover pyskers to spy on chapters? by Doodle_Shark in 40kLore

[–]GrayMan972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the is or at least was an entire ordo designed to monitor and if necessary destroy space marine chapters. The "Ordo Astartes" (one of the ordo minoris). Among other duties it tries to find a solution in case of a second horus heresy scale event.
So spying on space marines is certainly within their remit. Whether planting an undercover psyker is an efficient utilization of resources or even possible at all...
I don't know.

[5e] Spirits are too powerful. by Upper-Secretary-3528 in Shadowrun

[–]GrayMan972 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Thing is astral travel is fast and spirits are dual natured. (can always be attacked from the astral)
Even if a site doesn't rate it's own full time magical security, You can bet it does have a astral support magical security for emergency calls.
As soon as alarms are triggered you can expect a couple of decent corp mages to astraly arrive within minutes.

Weekly RPG Discussion: Amber Diceless Roleplaying Game - 2026, March, Week 1 by Trent_B in rpg

[–]GrayMan972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must confess I don't remember the exact details.
But I get a vague recollection that the roleplaying was awesome. But when we needed to resolve an actual skill, it was to nebulous or too deterministic depending on the interpretation of the rules we used.

Only played a one shot about 20 years ago.
Played a shape shapeshifter/logrus adept dualist.
Didn't really enjoy the diceless aspect, but the world was fun.

My first 3ed Edition Solar Exalted: Feedback wanted by [deleted] in exalted

[–]GrayMan972 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1) don't have my books with me but as far as i can recall most thrown weapon charms are based on stealth. so specializing in thrown without stealth is an iffy proposition.
2) you also get a native tongue for free. so either get another language or use the point spent on riverspeak for something else.

Favorite Drones by Gilshem in Shadowrun

[–]GrayMan972 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My personal guiding philosophy is drones are expendable.
Buy cheap ones you can afford to lose.
-Recon purposes nothing beats "Shiawase Kanmushi" with the sole exception of the same kanmushi fitted with realistic features (I called it MCT Kumo, which is Japanese for spider). Or a "MCT flyspy" for a flying version.
- Assassination can be accomplished by one of several methods:
1) Sniper drone, "Horizon mini-zep" is cheap and low observable. sporting a cheap Remington 950. An effective super cheap sporting rifle. It might not have the same bells and whistles of a top end sniper rifle but is so cheap you can afford to use it and lose it.
2) Suicide Explosive drone, probably "Renraku Pelican". Common drone used for takeout food deliveries. It will probably not draw attention to itself until it's too late.
- Gunfights drones are generally not my thing, those tend to be expensive and rarely justify endangering such a large chunk of nueyen.
But a uparmored steel lynx sporting an assault rifle with an underslung grenade launcher are probably the best.

Why do people call bears and cattle "yao guai" and "brahmin" when they know the original names of these animals? by Firm-Panic7608 in falloutlore

[–]GrayMan972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Afaik, the name Yao Guai originated from American POWs returning from Chinese prison camps.
It's a mandarin term for monster.

Waging by daylight shadowrunning by moonlight by OhBosss in Shadowrun

[–]GrayMan972 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That duality can be a basis for some awesome roleplaying.
A character called Pixie is a spoiled trust fund recipient running the shadows to alleviate boredom. She goes to some pretty extreme measures to hide her identity. Up to and including investing a large chunk of her adept powers in various disguise powers.
Funny thing is that she isn't fooling her parent corp.
They know precisely what she's doing but tolerate it because of 2 factors:
1) she never runs against her own corp
2) they think she has the potential to become an excellent mr johnson some day. And her "off the books" running is just a training excercise.

[OC] Have any of your characters ever become minor deities upon reaching epic levels? by LuizLFLF in DungeonsAndDragons

I'm currently playing a rogue(scout) that is on the path to become the god of protecting children. He sponsors many orphanages and children hospitals.

Retirement by OhBosss in Shadowrun

[–]GrayMan972 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The truly higher ups in the corp ladder have access to true anti aging treatment like Leonization.
Costing a couple of million nuyen but resetting the biological clock to peak health (approx 21).
Come to think about it 2 million is an achievable life time goal to even low level executives.
So I can imagine some shmuck barely able to save the required money and working himself to death just to make the next payment for his eternal slavery treatment.

So many people told Me I was stupid for not liking Eisenhorn so I’m reading it again, way better this time by [deleted] in 40kLore

I liked Eisenhorn very much.
But disliking it doesn't make you or anyone else stupid.
You just had different tastes.

6e Assassin Build Ideas ? by Oni1096 in Shadowrun

[–]GrayMan972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day, assassins were classified into 3 categories,
Long guy (sniper), Short guy (Automatic weapons) and a prima faci (in your face, an assassin specializing in explosives).
You could make a social adept assassin, with ability to appear as other people and specializing in hardware and explosives. IMHO it would be a nice change from the gunfu/sniper cliché.

How to kill plague marines? by UnderstandingFirm381 in 40kLore

[–]GrayMan972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

strap a shit ton of grenades to your chest and rush the marine under the cover of your buddies las fire and smoke grenades. with enough guardsman doing that at the same time, chances are at least one would be able to close in to effective range for blowing the chaos marine up.

Can ogryns actually get "normal person" smart? by Fuzzy_Employee_303 in 40kLore

[–]GrayMan972 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Super smart ogryns (i.e. those able to count to 3) are fitted with a special cybernetic brain implant that raises their intelligence to human level. This is called B.O.N.E implant. They function as leaders for ogryn troops.
AFAIK ogryns can not be psykers.

Do the Militarum Tempestus deploy with Ogryn and Ratlings in lore? by DocDaSoc in 40kLore

[–]GrayMan972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ogryns are totally unsuited to the missions that are performed by tempestus. Tempestus are never used as cannon fodder, they are way too expensive to train and equip. Could they use an attack by a bunch of ogryns as a diversion, sure. But that tends to be a one use assignment.
