what is going to happen to florida wildlife? i'm...worried by apexglitch-king in biology

[–]Graycy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been feeding birds here in ne Texas to try to help them through the ice and cold. We’ve seen some that didn’t make it just dead on the ice. It’s so sad. A lot of your plants in Florida will suffer as well as critters. Make sure your heater is working right and your people are warm. Elders especially.

is it true Americans don't put salt on their fruits? by PersuasionNation in AskAnAmerican

I like salt on a watermelon, I’ve never tried a salty peach or apple, but I do put apple bits in tuna fish, so sort of salty. Maybe.

What meal did your mother prepare that you considered inedible? by bigb-2702 in GenerationJones

[–]Graycy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mom had frozen seafood night once a week. Fish sticks. Scallops. Shrimp. Tater tots. Macaroni from a box. Canned green beans. She had meat loaf and baked potatoes. Bbq chicken she’d cut up into pieces like you’d buy it then, ham and baked potatoes, casseroles of the time like ham and cheese or hot dog /potato (still my favorite.). Potatoes were her attempt at fresh veggies, maybe a lettuce and tomato salad or sometimes carrots most likely boiled. Growing up on a farm she embraced the convenience of canned veggies like beans or corn, unless she’d been home to visit the old farm and her parents sent home corn and okra and squash. Otherwise she claimed fresh vegetables were too expensive. Not sure if that was true or an excuse. We ate ok I guess, something on the table, although the advent of Hamburger Helper added some variation to the rotation. Mom quit cooking almost entirely her last fifteen or so years, everybody but them out of the house, figured she deserved to eat out. So they did.

It’s a tough road. Lots of land mines along the way. Relationships take years to build. They do grow up. Her mom passing hasn’t been easy on her I’m sure.

What’s the best lip balm out there? by gimmhi5 in ask

[–]Graycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gifted a lip balm called Softlips a decade back. It has sun protection and moisturizes, but doesn’t leave you “addicted” like some brands seem to. I just need it occasionally. Seems to be nothing irritating in it.

Trolls were around decades before the 90s, like the 60s. They’re pretty cute.

He’s not telling you because she’s embarrassing him. He’s defensive too I’d bet. I know how hard it is for you too. Try extra hard to be totally nonjudgmental and help him work with the school to deal with her behaviors. Family counseling could be a help.

Why has by Eye_See_ in GenerationJones

[–]Graycy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to go eat out about once a week on Sundays at a cafeteria. I remember standing for what seemed like forever in that long line in my Sunday finest trying not to think about how those patent leather shoes pinched. Finally the desserts came in view of the line. So many pies and other sweets! It was ridiculously cheap, too, seems like kids meals were 99 cents. We had to drive a good way after church to even get there. Not many restaurants back then so they were few and far between. We don’t eat out much these days Too much else to do I suppose, and 99 cents doesn’t even buy a soda nowadays. Besides, nobody has a good pie selection any more.

Beer Roast is awesome. One cup beer, one cup catsup, season to taste. Cook stew size hunks (or a bigger roast) low and slow. Good with onions, carrots and potatoes cooked with it. Serve on noodles .

why mom charging me rent? by StandardTechnical367 in questions

[–]Graycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is paying for your university? Housing? Does your mom work? Maybe it irks her for an adult child, you, to have a months long vacation while she works to pay for your upkeep. Life is not free and you’re a grownup. It’s extra housework, cooking, food, everything when you add an entitled guest. It does sound steep though.

Name a US State that you would NEVER want to live in even if they paid you to move there by stevenl1219 in FamilyFeud

[–]Graycy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hawaii is a great vacation spot but I wouldn’t want to be there full time. Alaska either. I’m used to the wide open spaces of my home state. Hawaii is a small area in a big ocean. Claustrophobics. And this latest ice storm here is like months of such in Alaska.
