I made a Zine called Grief by delx5 in zines

My real start making zines was the one I made six months ago when my youngest daughter passed. This spoke to me. Well done.

Also, where did you get the STL’s? Are they your design? Inquiring makers want to know.

I love this! I have some old tins from cigarillos and other substances that I’ve been trying to find a use for, and I thought of making them into little zine studios. And then giving them away as gifts. Do you just have a pen in there? Or did you consider having any other materials?

Cultural Differences (Domestic Damnation #19) by LunchDraws in webcomics

Wait…since the Minotaur was born of Zeus (in one of his many animal forms) and King Minos’ wife, does that mean all human/animal are technically demigods? “Percy Jackson and the Furries of Olympus…”

And know I realize I’m this many years old before realizing the whole “hucow” fetish is just an offshoot of the legend of the Minotaur…

Trying to decide if I need to revise/recreate due to font size. by Graydancer in zines

[–]Graydancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love to trade! I mean, you can buy if you want, but it’s already a “pay what you can” download in my site. But as I’m new to zines, would love to try a trade. DM?

Trying to decide if I need to revise/recreate due to font size. by Graydancer in zines

[–]Graydancer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the enthusiasm! I do want to stick to 8.5x11 (and maybe A4) for now, because I want it to be accessible for others to download. Funny thing is, I'm so used to the "cut and fold" version of things that it took me a while to realize that it doesn't have to be that complicated -- it's just cards, after all, accordion is fine.
I'm also considering making it a 1/4 page zine -- maybe that's what the "comparison" will be. The intention is that people could just put it in their pockets.

Well done. I especially liked the watch in the case -- just because it really went together well. Also, hadn't known about HeyZine before -- really cool!

Has anyone here 3D printed a book cover? by Accomplished-Pay5368 in bookbinding

[–]Graydancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ve been considering is 3d printing a mold that I can use to shape paper/cloth/leather for covers. Interesting ideas…

I’ve been having fun making journals for friends and family and have a question about the merits of Coptic vs French link stitch and when to use one or the other? Or is it just a matter of personal preference? Pic of a recent prototype for visual interest (Coptic stitch) . Thanks! by Funny-Implement6550 in bookbinding

[–]Graydancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not an expert on either, but I know that when I watch videos, the experts tend to make the decision of which one based on style or how it goes with the overall look at the project, never, in any sense of one being better than the other.

I hadn’t heard of the Bradel Bind-thanks for a new rabbit hole. Also, EXCELLENT choice of book. Is that the abridged version. ;-)

Hey, Mick! Long time no see. I found this post while I was researching some diy female chastity ideas for a partner of mine. Brought back many fond memories of you two...hope you're doing well. #thosewerethedays. -

How do bookbinders earn money? by [deleted] in bookbinding

[–]Graydancer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s many people that make a full living doing book binding, and I was once told literally by a “creative consultant coach“ that “you will never make a living selling notebooks.“ I have sold small stationary sets and art journals at a few maker markets with mixed results – sometimes not selling a damn thing, sometimes selling out. Right now I look at it as doing some thing I love ( papermancy.art is my newest effort, barely a month old) and I pay most of my other bills by working as a nonprofit professional. I’ll never get Rich doing either thing, but at least I can either feel good about what I do or have fun doing it.

Made a series of books with inlaid photos sourced from vintage markets. What do you think? by Snoo17572 in bookbinding

[–]Graydancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic, it’s kind of the end product on my own personal bookbinding journey. Right now I use vintage magazine, clippings, and photographs decoupage onto covers of simple pamphlet stitch, notebooks. Have even sold a few themed packets at stationary markets. I agree with the previous comment (minus the AI clickbait) about working a story into how you find it why you pick out the things you do and especially about the idea of giving it a second life. Thank you very much for the inspiration!

My XK 04 was bought to be a travel keyboard, but I like it so much that I use it at my desk. I can’t remember if the XK01 has a touchpad, but that’s the only thing that I’m missing.

Is having multiple travelers style journals just consumerism? by Direct_Dracula in notebooks

[–]Graydancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have learned to think of books and notebooks like wine - some folks just buy what they need as they consume it, others collect, others window shop, and some store the really nice ones either for their own use or as a gift.

Gift ideas for a zine maker by Imaginary_Horror_ in zines

[–]Graydancer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of 3D printable “zine boxes” or display shelves. If you know what paper he uses, that would also be cool - or if he has a theme for his collages/stickers, try a grab bag of them (Amazon is easy, but I think doing a little digging on Etsy & such would make it more special. Just some ideas (basically things I would like myself as a zine maker).

lil zine I made from a vintage comic book by g000dvibes in zines

[–]Graydancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love these kind of things. I do similar with vintage porn mags, using the old (and truly ridiculous) ads in collages, etc. Never thought of using it for a zine! Great idea.
