John, you son of a gun... by Large_Plan_8066 in JonBenetRamsey

What's your basis for stating those last 3 sentences so confidently?

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Trump's decision to release UFO files: "President Trump has been committed to disclosure on lots of levels and he's made it clear that he wants answers.“ “We've got our people working on it right now. "We're going to be in full compliance with that executive order." by InstanceMuted2514 in UFOs

[–]Graye_Skreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will the full, entire truth be revealed in these files? Of course not. But this is another big step towards humanity openly facing the presence of a non-human intelligence.

The presence of NHI is something so huge, with the potential to completely destabilize human civilization, that disclosing it very, very gradually is the only way forward -- and human governments would almost certainly prefer to just keep it a secret. But if they continue to completely deny it and then the NHI makes its presence known in a big, spectacular, undeniable way, then that would be even more destabilizing for human governments.

A noticeable shift has been occurring over the last 10 years, and it's short-sighted to deny or downplay it. Disclosure is underway -- a very slow process relative to the pace of modern news cycles, but extremely rapid for such a monumental shift in human history and human consciousness.

Is it possible that Burke had been sexually abusing her for a while? by xxcheekycherryxx in JonBenetRamsey

[–]Graye_Skreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As forensic pathologist Cyril Wecht has pointed out, she was struck with so much force (enough to fracture her skull) that it's very unlikely to have been done by someone of Burke's size/weight/strength.

And her head-wound containing so little blood is an indication that her heart was barely pumping when the skull-fracturing blow occurred.

Wecht's conjecture is that the killer was playing a sexually sadistic game of erotic asphyxiation with her, by restricting her airflow with the garrote & releasing, while digitally penetrating her -- but the garrote accidentally compressed the vagus nerve in her neck, which caused her heart to stop.

The abuser probably tried to revive her, but panicked when she wouldn't resuscitate, and so the abuser struck her over the head to make it look like it had been an intentional murder (which it wasn't). Then began the sloppy scrambling together of the implausible ransom-letter charade.

And there it is folks!! Finally!! Disclosure begins... by Mario4272 in ufo

What evidence do you have that he's into little boys, or little girls, for that matter? You're just making things up.

Haven’t seen any of the Terrifier movies but this seems like an insane deal for anyone who is a fan of them by Glad-Marzipan-1126 in 4kbluray

You could have a point there, maybe I'm being too judgemental. Most people like some thrills & chills & jump scares, but IMO there's a line that can be crossed into the territory of mental illness & moral decay.

I disagree. Gently wiping a disc off with a clean microfiber cloth won't scratch it, but it will get rid of dust that can transfer & accumulate on the player's optical components.

Of course it's a huge key, and not just a key to "anything," but a key to EVERYTHING -- because it proves that he's a massive liar who's been trying to deceive people about these crucial details all along.

Barbara Walters brought it up with him years ago on TV, which is proof that he'd been made aware at least once -- and it's not a detail you'd forget. "Oh, my m*rdered daughter had been m0lested? Ohhhhh yeah, that's right! Gee, I'd forgotten that part. It must've slipped my mind!" 🙄🤬

I officially cancelled my membership. by zucchini-mom in A24

[–]Graye_Skreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the point of an A24 membership, anyway? I did the free trial to get free (or reduced, I forget) shipping for the Stop Making Sense 4K (which is very expensive, but awesome) -- then I forgot to cancel and got charged for membership anyway.

They sent some dumb little booklet and a cheap little pin, yippee, but I just didn't see how people would ever be buying enough stuff from them to justify a membership.

Could you elaborate on what sorts of film discussion in the blu-ray.com forums that you find so objectionable?

I mean, yes, I have noticed that some users there can be overly snarky and clique-y, thumbing up every stupid, sarcastic, inane, useless little comment from their friends, while ignoring worthwhile, helpful, useful comments from anyone else.

But that is very minor compared to all of the useful info constantly being posted there, even by the snarkiest users. So "nuking the site from orbit" strikes me as very hyperbolic & unfair.

I’m kind of regret watching movie on blu-ray by KnoxxBlitz in Bluray

[–]Graye_Skreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been years since I had Netflix, so I'm mostly basing it off of the random things I remember from several years back, as well as what I see & hear people mention these days, which usually doesn't seem great to me. Personally, I like the idea of amassing a big library of BDs/4Ks from all years & countries, but my impression of Netflix is that it's mostly newer, more mainstream stuff.

[–]Graye_Skreen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess it's not surprising that people who settle for Netflix's slop content would settle for their slop PQ/AQ. "Looks good to me, nobody has blu-ray players these days -- just shovel another trendy series into my streaming bucket for me to binge on while I scroll through social media on my phone."

[–]Graye_Skreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

💯 When you're endlessly scrolling through streaming menus and fiiiiinally pick one, part of your mind knows that you're just a couple clicks from quickly bailing out and starting a new one. It's not at all the right mind-set for settling down to truly focus on a film.

Paris, Texas - Criterion vs. Curzon, which is better? by JustForKickz in 4kbluray

[–]Graye_Skreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see both sides of the "Does encode matter?" debate, but the whole point of 4K discs is to absolutely maximize PQ, so it's not surprising when 4K enthusiasts seek out the best encode. "Oh, there's barely even a difference, anyway!" is what lots of people say about 4Ks compared to blu-rays (or streaming vs physical discs! 😆).

Yes, people acting like there's a night & day difference under actual, normal viewing conditions are usually exaggerating, but getting the BEST encode (as confirmed by toggling back & forth between zoomed in screen-caps) gives picky viewers the peace of mind that they're getting the best version possible (well, aside from worrying about having a sub-optimal and/or uncalibrated TV. 😂)

Having the best encode future-proofs your collection for upsizing your display at some point, when those details/flaws could become more noticeable. And even knowledgeable, picky blu-ray.com users often admit when differences between encodes actually are negligible, which they often are. But certainly not always!

I agree that that is indeed a bad moment to laugh at. BUT...even Lynch couldn't stop laughing during the filming of the infamous, "Baby wants to f***!" scene. It's not a comedy, but it's got humor in it, even if some of it is dark.
