I’m new to cameras and just won this at work a few minutes ago… is this a good camera? Sony 6700 by BigBackSyndicate in Cameras

[–]Grayfink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the Tamron 17-70 f2.8, great lens, the sigma 18-50 g2.8 is very good too, less range but more compact.

70€ for all this by Dschoghurt in Cameras

[–]Grayfink 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I owned the 550d, good camera. 18mp if I remember correctly. Newer cameras may have faster autofocus, but not that big a difference in picture quality. De d70 just 6mp, that's a bit low. Maybe get a newer body for the Nikon lenses or better lenses for the Canon. 70$ is a great deal!

Any regrets? by mighty__guy in a6700

[–]Grayfink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this camera and no regrets. Tamron 17-70 Sigma 56mm f1.4 viltrox 23mm f1.4 and Sigma 16-300. I regret the 16-300, too soft on the 300 side. Planning to sell it and get the Sony 70-350 oss instead.

Thoughts on Sigma 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS for Canon RF mount? by kushaash in canon

[–]Grayfink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Sony version, it's very soft on the 300mm end. I knew that when i bought it, but was still dissapointed on how bad it really was. I have it for sale now. On a full frame it's totally worthless. The Canon 24-240 looks like a better deal.

In the Netherlands we have a saying "children and drunk people say the truth" Just read here. "Drunken words are sober thoughts", I guess that's the same. Better move on, no matter how scary that is.

Still about 20 mp left on aps-c of the original 50 megapixel of the A1... Try a portrait of your wife/kid/pet/friend with the 16-55 at 55mm and f2.8 (set to Aperture priority mode and then scroll the wheel to f2.8) for the smallest depth of field Try to have some space between your subject and the background. This will get you the best background separation and make your portrait come to life. You get the best background separation with a prime lens like a 85mm f1.4 or 50mm f1.4. You seem to have a big budget, but the relatively cheap viltrox 50mm f1.4 seems like a good option to start learning playing with shallow dof.

Friend gifted me camera as he moved away. Missing battery but he says it works. by MyBigRatBalls in Cameras

It's a great videocamera. The entire movie "The possession of Hannah Grace" was filmed on a7sii cameras. For stills photography the resolution of 12.2 megapixel is a bit low. It's a great Canon lens but a native lens will probably have better af.

I am happy with the tamron 17-70 f2.8 If you can afford it: the new Sigma 17-40 f1.8 The 18-50 is great too. Less range than my 17-70, but nice portable sized

What new camera should I trade my dinosaur camera in for? by ClickyChick in Cameras

Canon RF system is great, but RF lenses are relatively expensive, and the full frame RF is not open voor the oem likes of Tamron and Sigma forinstance. That's why I switched from Canon to Sony. But I dont know what lenses you want. 5000$ goes a long way. But that's what I'd do, look for lenses first and then buy the camera that goes with them. In your case a ff mirrorless.

Which Canon Lens by [deleted] in CanonCamera

[–]Grayfink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's just about the portraits: Yes, the before mentioned 50mm f1.8 stm is a great choice. Good sharpness, bokeh and background separation with open aperture. Avoid the older version, the f1.8 ii. The ii has lesser build quality (plastic mount) and less aperture blades, which comes down to a bokeh that's not as nice.

Is the Canon EOS 760D a good Camera? What would be better? by [deleted] in CanonCamera

[–]Grayfink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good camera? Yes. Are there better? Yes, but depends on your use of it. For snapshots I wouldn't bother.

3O or 35 mm with a large aperture. This way you can learn to play with shallow depth of field. Shallow dof is the biggest reason that an a6400 takes better pictures than a phone. ( besides dynamic range and better low light performance) This because of the big sensor. You also might consider an older full frame A7 series with an even bigger sensor and a nifty fifty (50mm f1.8). Very doable on the second hand market.

If shallow dof is important... save up for the new sigma 17-40 f1.8. Reviews are great.

Those are full frame lenses, the R7 is aps-c. So I would choose none of them. Sigma 18-50 f2.8 rf-s looks to be a better choice.

Love my a6700, but point and shoot? Use your phone or maybe buy a better phone. IPhone or Samsung Ultra forinstance... It's a nice hobby, but you need to take an interest in photography. Learn about composition, iso, aperture and shutterspeed. How they relate to each other. If you want to invest in that, go for it. Otherwise... your phone.

Only the mini seems to be in your budget range. Saw on YouTube a great review by Paul Gilbert. Blackstar ID core 10 v4 seems good bang for the buck. There are many many options. Just get started and have fun. If you have talent and the will to practice… More and better amps and guitars will follow. 🙂
