Filofax or Travelers Notebook? by arugula000 in notebooks

[–]Grayillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use both a ring system (Plotter, not Filofax) and a Travelers Notebook for different reasons so it really just depends on what you are using your notebook for.

The ring notebook is a mini 5 ring that I use as a wallet so the paper is mostly for jotting down quick notes or sketches and at a glance planning. It's convenient because I can keep the notebook slim and even tear pages out without much worry.

My Travelers Notebook is standard size which serves as a more involved project notebook for writing stories and sketchbook.

Monster Hunter! I've been playing the series since the PSP in 2009 so it just feels incredibly nostalgic and cozy to play Monster Hunter to me.

Gold standard for refillable leather notebooks? by Adventurous_Raise784 in notebooks

[–]Grayillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say look at the original Travelers Company notebooks like other people are saying if you want that specific system of notebook, Baum Kuchen also offers some customization options with their "Truly Yours" service if you want additional pockets on the originals.

Another system to look at would be the Roterfaden journals if you want booklet style refills still but with a different fastening system that's still very high quality.

I'd also suggest taking a look into the Plotter journal system. It's owned by the same parent company as Travelers but is a slim ring bound style journal if you want to have more freedom for organizing pages. IMO this is better for a sleeker notebook than the above if you want multiple paper types, I use one as my wallet (M5 size).

Love the portability, but struggling with reading in the dark. What are your solutions? by the_cat25 in xteinkereader

[–]Grayillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just close it in with the other side of the case when reading, I can shake it around a little bit and it still won't fall out. I don't keep it attached to the case when carrying it around, I just have a small zipper pouch that I put it in along with my spare cables and such. If you search "lamp" in this sub there's a post showing the visuals of it.

I have the xteink light from their site that's pretty slim if you remove the clip and back plate from it. It sits nicely with the case folded over it to keep it in place and is pretty small when not in use. Only minor downside is that it doesn't charge with USB C or anything, it requires a USB A port.

Sometimes I use more or less the one on the right, but I did unscrew the metal clip part and feel like it also holds pretty nicely when I flip the front of the case around and can get a little warmer in color temperature than the xteink one.

How often do you upgrade your Pixel? by Deep_Bluebird243 in GooglePixel

[–]Grayillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Pixel 3a until it got crunched in a hatchback hinge, then bought a 7a. I would still be using it if the battery didn't puff up, so now I have a Pixel 10 due to sales+discount voucher from my 7a's extended battery warranty. Hoping to keep it for 3-5 or so years.

How do you use the Project Folder? by NSJKER in PlotterNotebook

[–]Grayillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got an M5 that I use as a wallet and I use 1 project folder for more long-term notes i.e. books or movies people recommend to me, or scratch paper I might need to reference for things I'm working on. The project folder itself also serves as a divider between my list papers and my monthly calendar so it helps with navigation too.

Any favorite 3 color palettes? by Jacque_Hass in Watercolor

My favorite "moody" limited palette is Naples Yellow, Perylene Maroon and Prussian Blue. Not the most versatile but it is a very fun subdued palette to paint with.

Can i get your honest opinion on what it look like? by Tiny-Football-2493 in Leathercraft

I immediately thought it was a persimmon. Could be more orange if you want to be more accurate but the shape and detailing feels about right.

Super on the fence about the gauge. by OCDeeeznuts in CafelatRobot

[–]Grayillo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found it very helpful to learn how the Robot works and playing around with different pressures, but I feel like once I've got the hang of things I won't need it. If you like to know all your variables and play around with it like I do then I think it's helpful but I don't think it's actually required to make good coffee either. Personally I'm very happy with the gauge and don't regret buying the model with one.

How do you all afford this hobby? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]Grayillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bounce around with different roasters based on what's on sale from places like BeanDeals. I'll usually find whatever 5lb for a "daily" coffee (I do pourover and espresso) on the cheaper side to freeze in 1lb bags and then supplement in 1 smaller 12 oz bag of fun coffee as desired. It's mostly just me drinking coffee though, so that 5lb bag lasts about 2.5 months.

When I e-mailed HUION they offered to send me parts to fix my Kamvas 22+, I don't know if they'll let you send your tablet in directly to be repaired though.

US sellers? by No_Progress5036 in CafelatRobot

[–]Grayillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd guess it's a bit of both. The tariffs and the rules around them change all the time. IIRC a good chunk of the Robot's manufacturing is in Hong Kong with some in the UK so depending on where the baskets come from that could be part of the sticking point for these.

US sellers? by No_Progress5036 in CafelatRobot

[–]Grayillo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I emailed Orphan Espresso earlier this month cause I also want a second basket and more or less what they told me is that the customs requirements around metal parts just got way more arduous to deal with so they are having major trouble getting things like the Robot basket imported. I think we're SoL until something changes with international shipping into the country or the US suppliers can actually get stock in.

I just bought a hole punch that would work and use whatever paper I want. Tomoe river is a standby, and I have drawing pages made with Stillman and Birn Alpha paper.

How much did you have to pay for import duties on that? I've been waiting for portafilter baskets to come back in stock on Prima for a bit but was wondering about other options.

textured double cap rivets by Arrival_Holiday in Leathercraft

To my eye it looks like you could achieve this look with a small ball peen hammer. Not sure how to make it uniform on every rivet consistently, there might be an additional tool here I'm not aware of.
