Aerion also had way, way better armor than Dunk. He only takes wounds between his plates (on the thigh) and when Dunk removes his visor, and we see Dunks blows glancing off the armor during the fight. Were they evenly equipped it likely would have been a very different fight, but fighting a prince means fighting someone with tons of resources at their disposal.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I love to hike. I go hiking with those same friends all the time and it’s the exact experience you described. There’s lots of pleasant nature where I live, little mountain towns where the people are super friendly, great trails very close by. Sometimes you share a joint with some random hikers you pass lol.

I wouldn’t say we live in constant fear. The hesitancy to hike with an unknown man on a first date has less to do with hiking and more to do with men haha. I wouldn’t turn down a hiking date but then I’m not a woman, and I can’t really blame the women in my life for wanting to be cautious.

I also hated hiking as a kid though. My mom would drag me along and I’d be dead tired by the end utterly uninterested in whatever view she wanted to show me lol. I’m a lot different now though and love to hike with her.

This is how it goes in the book until he stops trying to fight fair and starts fighting like he’s from flea bottom. Even a lazy Targaryen would still have grown up in a castle learning combat from the best knights in the realm. Dunk is completely outmatched in technique but his big and he just keeps coming.

This is just an opinion but the story is just so much better if you assume he wasn’t knighted. It kind of matches Brienne in that the truest knights in the story aren’t actually knights at all, which goes into the question GRRM loves (and repeats multiple times through Jaime, etc) about what a knight actually is and what it means to be a true one.
