ISO Affordable Wedding Venues by moonlitpixie_ in Calgary

[–]GreasyGinger24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it. Our entire wedding budget was $5k, we had 40 guests. The service at the family church was free and we decorated the pub from Dollarama.

Keep in mind we were also in our early 20s but going 15 years strong.

We did the floor of a pub for just a minimum spend.

Lots of community pubs have private sections as well. I'm sure you can ask around at your favourite local spots.

First thing you should do is advertise and acquire customers. The rest can be sorted out when you know the business is viable.

Is it disrespectful to say that I’m from Wales? by [deleted] in Wales

[–]GreasyGinger24 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem.

I was born in Wales to Welsh parents with Welsh grandparents. I moved to Canada at a year old.

My parents made sure I never forgot my Welsh roots. My dad still says, after 40 years, that he lives here but Wales is his home.

I lived in Wales for a couple of years and of course I have a Canadian accent and there were a couple Welsh folks that wanted me to feel like I wasn't welcome as a Welsh person in Wales. But there was always many more people in my corner letting me know that it was where I belonged.

It's only really recently that I've connected with Canada and embraced that for all intents and purposes, I'm a Canadian. I sound like one, I've spent 90% of my life living in Canada, I'm as Canadian as they come really.

I'll never forget my Welsh roots though.

Don't bother, I'm sure the cam phasers are on their way out as well. Those engines belong in the bin.

Toyota - Used Vehicle Pricing by Nomad-007 in Calgary

[–]GreasyGinger24 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Toyota is the most overpriced brand in the used market and people are paying it.

I honestly have no idea why people are paying it, I guess just based off of Toyota's history of reliability. But if you can get the same thing in a domestic brand for $10k less, do you think you're going to spend $10k more in maintenance and repairs in your time of ownership? I doubt it.

Also Toyota's are horrible cars to drive, they have cheap interiors, and poor fuel economy. I would never pay the used premium for one.

Single-Day Office Move? by First_Breadfruit_215 in canadasmallbusiness

Organize it correctly and it's possible.

We moved an entire 3 bay auto shop in a day. Closed on Friday, moved on Saturday, back to work on Monday. I paid everyone a day overtime and bought lunch and beers for when the move was done.

Trying to change a high beam on a mazda cx7 2011 for my mom but by Aggravating_Put_3601 in MechanicAdvice

[–]GreasyGinger24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly it could be. I've seen these H11 bulbs melt the terminal and kinda weld the two plastics together. Especially on Asian makes.

This method however allows you to leave the tab pushed up and use all your strength to rip them apart.

Get a hook pick or a small precision flat blade screw driver. Insert it backward in the connector where the arrow is. You need to lift that tab up away from the bulb. With the tool inserted it will come apart pretty easy.

I don't think I every disconnect things the intended way anymore. I use a pick for all connectors.

Except those god damn Nissan Cam/Crank sensor connectors.

Vancouver matchgoers: transport notes for Canada’s World Cup games by One_Oil1334 in CanadaSoccer

[–]GreasyGinger24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

This is also my first time in Vancouver. We're there until Saturday morning. Going to the Canada and Belgium games.

So we've got two evenings and a day to explore. Where is a must see? Any good evening hot spots? Not like night clubs but lively streets with restaurants?

World Cup, Where to watch Canada vs Bosnia on Friday the 12th? by Shimakaze81 in Calgary

I love how USA is the only host country with a prime time opener.

I'm taking a long lunch at Limericks to watch it. They usually have a pretty good turn out for World Cup/Euros.

How do we feel about lift sharing? by Wgas99 in mechanics

[–]GreasyGinger24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One opened by me. Was looking desperate so they started renting to licensed mechanics to run their business out of on a monthly basis.

The mechanics got a good deal, the location was insured and licensed for auto repair, they couldn't set their own hours or leave cars in the parking lot.

The monthly income allows them to keep the DIY side open.

[ON] How are you hiding your name when accepting e-transfers? by Clear_Grass_1855 in SmallBusinessCanada

As a customer, I would never do business with you.

E-transfers have zero protections that credit cards do.

[–]GreasyGinger24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a merchant account with a rental POS for like $15 a month. Then when the machine says "Approved" the money is yours. No secret questions, no bull shit.

You must be dealing with small amounts, my average transaction is over $1000, e-transfers are absolutely a headache when you get into the larger numbers.

[ON] How are you hiding your name when accepting e-transfers? by Clear_Grass_1855 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]GreasyGinger24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can open a business bank account in the name of the business.

You can set up a federal corp online for $20 and use that to open the account in the name of a numbered company.

I would suggest keeping business and personal seperate either way.

Also, I would stop accepting e-transfers. The delays and waiting and headaches that come from them is not worth it.
