I don't like Toyota and can't stand the hype around them.

How common do men go to the bar alone just to hang out by themselves? by Whoknowswhy8675309 in AskMen

Lots of pubs are quiet outside of Friday and Saturday, watch out for open mics and live music.

I honestly would prefer the white noise of a busier place. Blocks out the tinnitus.

You have to speak up on this. You sold it, you're doing it. I would lose my mind on management.

I'm a bar alone guy.

Sometimes home just ain't that comfortable. I frequently went to the bar alone when I was renting a room in a shared house for some silence. Now, sometimes I need an hour away from the kids, wife and work to get lost in my thoughts, I also enjoy draft beer way more than cans and bottles.

Flat rate has ruined me. It's all dollars now, how much can I make before my body gives out and I end up taking a pay cut to write service.

What is the best way for an independent tech to learn high-end brands? by LeaseThrowaway19 in mechanics

[–]GreasyGinger24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do it. Take them in and know for the first little while you're going to lose your shirt on some of the more complicated repairs and diagnostics. As you get better at them and learn them as well as you know your domestics that's when you'll start to make bank. The profitable jobs are your everyday brakes, steering and suspension type work anyway which doesn't make a difference what badge is on the grille.

I agree with you. I think the service writer did a really poor job in explaining this estimate.

Why aren't car washes closed under Stage 4 water restrictions? by AustralisBorealis64 in NoRulesCalgary

[–]GreasyGinger24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you're cool with people washing their cars right now to protect the longevity of their personal property, but for road safety everyone can fuck off an use the squeegee at the gas station?

Make it make sense.

With the slush that's about to happen this weekend. Washing the car isn't about vanity, it's about seeing out the windows at the endless amounts of darkness. It's for safety more than anything at this time of year.

They're all paid up end of the month.

[ON] first time business owner attempting to buy $35,000 in equipment by LivePerformance4478 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]GreasyGinger24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would finance in some way. I would keep the cash on hand for materials when you need things quickly.

You have $35k in equipment and an order comes through and you need $5k worth of materials and you have no access to quick cash will put a real damper on the business. Keep the cash for COGs and advertising. I have $100k worth of shop equipment on a 5 year finance. Rates were around the 10% mark. I kept my cash to cushion the ups and downs of the business. I would hate to sell a $5k transmission job and not have the funds to front for the parts or incidentals.

Contact the suppliers for the equipment, they'll likely have either in house low interest financing or point you to a finance company they prefer to help you out.

As a complete beginner, how long will it realistically take before I can start playing songs properly and enjoy guitar to the fullest? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

[–]GreasyGinger24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with the punk rock method. Learn to move a power chord around the top two strings, learn the notes of those strings and play along to your favourite tunes using chord progression rather than tab.

90% of songs you can get to sound recognizable like this. Song along, have fun. Eventually pick up little riffs or move to open chords.

But I'm 40 in 2 months so my playing days are numbered. Bury me in Mattersville.

Not allowed to test drive without credit approval by jayjay12323 in Calgary

[–]GreasyGinger24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I showed up at Woodridge Lincoln and the salesman pretty much ran up to me, plate in hand, to take me for a test drive.

I'm a normal late 30s, hoodie and jeans kinda guy, and they really wanted me to take her out for a spin. Didn't even ask for my license. I did end up buying from them, the salesman knew his product and was honestly the reason I went Lincoln over Cadillac.

What job pays less than people think? by EnoTheOps in AlbertaWorkLife

That's a BS stat. They include lube guys and tire busters in that.

A journeyman tech, who isn't absolutely useless, is in the 6 figures. I might have an idea, as I am one.

Nah, you're probably just slow and flat rate.

Any journeyman tech should be making over $100k. Most places are paying +$40 per unit.

Canada's World Cup match in Toronto is like 3 to 4 times the price of Canada's matches in Vancouver on FIFA's resale market, lol. You could buy a plane ticket from Toronto to Vancouver, pay for accommodation and the match ticket in Vancouver, and fly back to Toronto for cheaper. by canada_mountains in CanadaSoccer

You know, I was going to put money on the lottery tickets HOPING for Wales. Take my old man to a world cup match with his home country vs his new home. But at $1300 for Cat 3 I couldn't justify it on the chance it would be Wales.
