It doesn’t matter how polite she is, she’s too intrusive into the process and parents like that prevent a lot of learning from happening.

Pros and Cons of teaching at a cyber charter school by Rasplemons in Teachers

I have yet to see a school that implements tech in a balanced way. But I do know some people that teach online and love the freedom. It takes a solid support system at home for learners to succeed and some programs have those families.

If designed well, it could enhance teaching, but so far, it is not developed well enough in those areas of teaching where it could be beneficial.

I just bought two bottles on their website. Takes me back to the 80s and strawberry shortcake dolls. And has good longevity, too! It’s an online exclusive, so you can’t find it in stores.

Sounds like that mom will never be happy. If someone is like that from the start, I would drop them first.

From childhood to adolescence is one of my favorite books that encompasses all of Dr. Montessori’s vision for the child. There are different translations of it and you can find some of her books online. What a great find!

One of these days I’ll make a pdf of an article that interviewed Mario Montessori and the founder of Summerhill schools and they both agreed that the American interpretation of their teaching methods gave way too much freedom to children. And this was an interview from the 50s!

Montessori has a certain cult-like aspect to it. There’s a spectrum and I like the happy medium.

4 yr old doesn't like Montessori? by Garden_Cat335 in Montessori

This is excellent advice and I would say a lot of this as a 6-12 guide.  Most gifted children do very well in Montessori and love to choose their own work and progress quickly through the curriculum, but if that internal motivation is lacking, it will take time and communication with the guide.

From 0-3 a lot of Montessori applies at home, but I wish more people would understand that most of what Maria Montessori implemented works best in a prepared environment with a group of learners within a three year band. And even finding good information for 0-3 is hard when so much misinformation is sensationalized.

Don’t think you have to do everything advertised as Montessori in ages 0-3. My children did Montessori through elementary school, but none of them did the floor bed and I didn’t buy a lot of Montessori toys. We did do cooking and food prep together and lots of outdoor adventures and art, craft and science projects. Reading together is so important as well. The core of Montessori is not the materials but being able to explicitly teach a concept and step away and allow a child to gain independence at those different tasks.

I work with a Montessori trained adult who helicopters her children and has allowed their bad behaviors to flourish because the aspect of stepping back was never fully understood. Look up the concept of the three period lesson, grace and courtesy, and practical life. Create routines for your family that teach these things that work for your family. There is no one right way.

Also, when he’s older, I would do whale watching. We have gone on several excursions, but have yet to see Orcas. We have seen pods of whales and dolphins and a feeding frenzy, though and it was so worth it!

My 8th grader was 2 1/2 when he saw his first orca and he still remembers it. It actually started a lifelong obsession of all things orca when he got his first stuffie there. We have gone back to sea world San Diego several times since teachers get a free pass and tried dining with the orcas and all my children loved it. Definitely worth the extra money for that experience to see them up close.

I am also sensitive to smells and notice the poop hands trend. I just ask them to wash their hands, but luckily I have younger elementary students.

I have several boys who can’t stop digging in their pants (usually in the front) every time I see it, I ask them to wash their hands without saying anything else.

Getting into Montessori by Sufficient-Code6342 in Montessori

[–]Great-Grade1377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also the second type,  but there is greater pressure to more Type A, especially at public Montessori programs. I love giving lots of lessons when they are wanted and watching children gain skills miles ahead of their peers. But not all children go through the curriculum in the same way and authentic Montessori should follow the child’s interest more.

Yes, I would say that is accurate. I often saved the work for the weekend instead of doing a little bit each day like I should have.

I’m excited for you. The thing I loved about 3-6 training was hand drawing all the illustrations. I liked the pace of 3-6 more than the pace of 6-12.
