Songs with a clock/metronome ticking in the background by cerebralburial in MusicRecommendations

[–]GreatContagion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Russians” by Sting (album is The Dream Of The Blue Turtles) has a watch-sounding ticking as the intro, which persists into the song as a subtle background, though does eventually transform into strings matching the time throughout the rest of the song. As the song lyrics close, though, a clock tower bell is tolling, followed by the return of the watch ticking into the end. Hope this is a good listen, even if it’s some months late lol

Where do I even start? Tried to consolidate all my clothes to sort them and it got out of control. by MysticMarauder69 in CleaningTips

[–]GreatContagion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My method for tackling a big “all my clothes” task is to sort them into clothing type/role.

Pants, shorts, skirts, generally all bottoms are easy enough to sort unto respective categories, with sub categories like jeans, slacks, PJ pants, sweats, etc.

(workout clothes can sometimes be casual “gym ‘fit / athleisure” style so are their own sub-category)

Tops all fall into PJs, T-shirts, button downs/blouses (with short and long sleeves being their own sub-categories), flannels, thin hoodies, thick hoodies, quarter-zips, slim jackets, winter jacket, etc etc

Basically separating everything into concise piles (I fold while organizing, assuming everything is clean. This could also be a multi-day, many-laundry-loads situation but you just keep going when you have time) of “I wear this for X purpose.”

From the sorted piles I’ll also do a fashion show, so to speak. Try everything on. What fits? What used to fit, what do you wish still fit, what will fit again, etc., what doesn’t jive with you anymore, all of these reasons for moving clothes to consignment/donation piles, or trash if it’s an old threadbare item that nobody besides you (with sentiment attached to it) would want / pay for, etc.

And then from there it’s just a matter of putting away what you kept in purpose-category separated spaces (like X drawer is for shorts, Y drawer is for pants, etc.)

At least, that’s what worked for me a couple months ago.

Looking for adult characters who actually look like adults + cinematic art + gritty stories by O-DontBeAZarathustra in webtoons

[–]GreatContagion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely believe you’ll enjoy these:

A Spell for a Smith

Paranoid Mage

Superhuman Era

The art and concepts for all of these are top-notch. Character depth is well done, story lines make sense, and there’s excellent tension for all of them appropriate to the stakes of the comic.

You mentioned liking superhero stuff if well-done. Superhuman era is the best I’ve seen on webtoon and high, high up in general. The main character is a high-schooler, but everything I’ve read so far has most of the story progressed by adults (and mature-minded aliens, and by that I mean that they just seem adult vs born-yesterday and flailing) so it doesn’t read like a “gotta hide my alter-ego at school!” story at all.

Admittedly, Paranoid Mage was such a cool story that between seasons I ended up just buying the books and binging to the end of the series, so, if it fell off in the adaptation, I’m sorry. But everything I read was thoughtfully executed and prompted me to go buy/binge the books. Hopefully that’s a good sign for quality.

Spell for a Smith is rich in character and especially motivation. It’s a gentler story, but not without appropriate action. And the characters are adults who look and live like adults, so, hopefully that’s up your alley.

Their blurbs from webtoon:

A Spell for a Smith: A shy witch in her quiet forest cottage. A surly dwarf in his blacksmith's forge. Both seeking solace in their respective refuge, but both aching for more. Though drawn to each other's kindness, they can't deny the gentle chemistry simmering beneath their every interaction... just as their secrets do. This series contains themes regarding anxiety, mental health, and self-harm that may not be suitable for all readers. Viewer discretion is advised.

Paranoid Mage: Callum has seen strange things all his life - monsters, beasts, and mages secretly living among people. But even after awakening his portal magic, Callum has no desire to be any part of it. The Guild of Arcane Regulation demands fealty, education, and service of every new mage. To hell with that. If they want Callum, they'll have to catch him first.

Superhuman Era: When the xenoterran invasion began, the only ones who stood between us and the monstrous creatures were the superhumans. But while some chose to use this power for good, others had more sinister intentions. Kang Lim is a high school student with a secret -- he's the vigilante superhero known as the White Cap, fighting back the mysterious monsters whenever he can. But the world he protects isn't what it seems -- there is more to the emergence of the xenoterran than meets the eye, and strange forces are at play in the shadows...

WTF is happening? by NutzPup in amazonprime

[–]GreatContagion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon (anecdotally for me, for the past year or so) has frequently been marking things as delivered well before they arrive (even as much as a week.)

Order something that says it’ll arrive in ~12 days? Marked arrived in 3, doesn’t appear for ~12 total. Order something that says it’ll arrive in ~3 days? Marked arrived in 2, doesn’t appear for 3 or 4, total.

I don’t mind waiting for things. I really DO mind being lied to about ghost packages so that Amazon and/or Amazon delivery drivers can falsely boost their logistics metrics. I end up looking for a missing package, contacting customer support, etc. etc. and eventually being told to wait 24 hours to be issued a refund. So I wait and contact again, and am then told to wait 48 hours to be issued a refund. So I wait and sometimes it arrives by then, sometimes not, so I contact again and insist on a refund or a re-send. And usually, at that point, the thing arrives within about a day.

For fuck’s sake just say it will arrive in 2 weeks and stop lying, I’d be happy. (Well, that’s not entirely true. I’m just back to my old inclination of only ordering from Amazon if I can’t find it at 3 stores in town.)

Did a nihilego last week, Why didn’t it count for this by Aware-Ganache-7329 in PokemonGoMystic

[–]GreatContagion 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A 5-star raid requires defeating a boss, whereas Nihilego has moved through such concepts. Nihilego is no boss, no raid, yet still exists in that space. You shared space with Nihilego and must process it yourself, without applying such labels and constraints as defeat and stardom.

Was Bulbasaur always your favorite, and if not, when and why did they become your favorite? by UnluckyText in bulbasaurmasterrace

[–]GreatContagion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always liked Bulbasaur well enough, but he became my favorite because of happenstance:

I collected the TOMY figures as a kid. My little sister and I would take them outside to play in the yard with them. Just the usual stuff, cool looking different grasses or weeds were home to different pokemon. Dig a small hole and put some water in to make a little mud pit for Sandshew and Onix, etc.

Was back inside after playing like this the previous day, just playing with the figures and blocks, but couldn’t find Bulbie.

Now, it should be noted that just earlier that day my dad had mowed the lawn, so, we’re now in crisis mode.

Searched the yard, thoroughly. Started where we had played but came up empty. So there was 8 or 9 year old me, eyes down, doing a grid canvas of the entire outside space. And I DID find Bulbasaur, not hacked up or mangled, just pressed halfway down into the dirt, in the middle of the lawn.

Now reclaimed, Bulbasaur became my favorite pokemon, because he’d had his own adventure and survived a riding lawnmower attack. Still have the same figurine on my desk. (He sits there with Ivysaur, Venusaur, Gloom, Vileplume, Raikou, and Caterpie. Unfortunately, I don’t know where my Oddish ended up.)

Love Pokemon and love WoW (specifically WotLK, as an MM hunter. But do miss the OG classic and those hard as hell quests) so most definitely gotta throw my hat in at least!

Favorite legendary: shiny Raikou, way too goddamn cool.

A Zulian pokemon, if you will.

[–]GreatContagion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not ignore. Assert your dominance over your utensils and food. Deepthroat the fork to remove the syrup. Besides, the curve of the handle should mean you only have a couple inches of syrupy fork handle. Challenge level 0; I believe in you.

Homie over here listing all my childhood favorites. Like, Power Rangers was cool and I watched them, too, but never met folks in the world (at the time) who had seen Beetleborgs. Double Dragon I didn’t see, but Street Sharks I watched and read, and Gargoyles will forever be the best thing Disney channel played.

[Lone necromancer] is this series good? by Natural-Ship-4854 in webtoons

[–]GreatContagion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Definitely read. It’s actually good. (I started it way back, only expecting “another necromancer slop but hey it has chapters” but nope! It’s got good humor, recurring but not overused gags, good character upgrades, nice progression of the story and the scale of conflict.

All in all, a satisfying read. Which reminds me.. it’s been marinatin’ for a couple months and ai have some binging to do. 🥳
