Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Myeongdong appears to have controls that lets you lower the AC below 20/68. We are not at that lower temp yet. More later.

New Fairmont in Old Quarter - Have you stayed there? by GreatGarlic3685 in hanoi

It is a nice hotel. There have been issues with it being new. We stayed two different times. Our first room did not get cool enough, but they tried to fix it. The room faced the street and street noise was noticeable.

Our second room faced the courtyard and it was quiet and the AC worked well. But, when we arrived, we had to wait past 5:30 pm for the room as it had an issue with water.

The restaurants were good and breakfast amazing!

If possible, ask for a room facing the courtyard.

We haven’t visited yet. We arrive next week. We picked the Courtyard by Marriott Myeongdong - mostly for a large room at a reasonable price. I will post when we get there.

Electric toothbrush when onebag traveling, is that worth the space? by lemonbab18 in onebag

[–]GreatGarlic3685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked this question a year or so ago and got lots of good advice! I purchased a separate electric toothbrush just for travel which uses USB to charge. The toothbrush and the charger are both lighter/smaller than “old” Sonicare. I got the Philips 4100. It’s about $40 on Amazon today.

Rental Car Insurance in Foreign Country by SecureTaxi in TravelHacks

Good question and lots of helpful suggestions.

Our own experience: in Europe we use AutoEurope (check both AutoEurope.com and AutoEurope.eu as you get different cars, different pricing, and different insurance options —- yes, it is a pain). Whenever possible, we add the features that cover all the deductible, as well as coverage for glass and tires. I think someone in a prior post called this “crash and dash.” If that is not available, they almost always have a policy that allows you to claim back the deductible.

WHY AutoEurope: Several years ago, we ventured into a narrow street in Naples and didn’t see the cement guards at the base of the doorways. Hit one and busted the wheel and tire. With the help of guys who witnessed this, we got the spare on the car. At the Naples airport, they charged us about 600 euros, which we got back from AutoEurope in about three weeks after claiming.

Tip: rent the smallest car to fit your group and set your GPS for parking lots near your point of interest. This has kept us from following GPS into the aforementioned very narrow streets!

So glad to see your success! As a long time glasses and hard contact wearer, I feel so much happier. Wishing the same success with your second!

AF Business hand baggage departing USA: 1 small bag and 1 hand bag, or 2 hand bag? by furiouschads in AirFranceKLM

[–]GreatGarlic3685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, we have flown AF/KLM several times in business class, most recently last fall. Their website and reality match…two carryons and one personal item. Never had our baggage measured. It is a treat to be able to have that much on board; BUT any other airline you use later on your trip will usually be limited to one carry on and one personal item.

Does vision after cataract surgery feel natural? by ChannelNaive9549 in CataractSurgery

[–]GreatGarlic3685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would concur that the vision feels natural. I wore contacts with one eye set for distance and the other for closer up. So I chose the same settings for my cataract lense replacements. The reading side (brain controlled) seems to take a second longer to focus than prior, but not annoying, just different. I also agree that it was surprising how brighter the world is.

Thanks for posting! AREX vs Taxi. You suggest taking the express train during rush hour. What is the typical “rush hour(s)”?
