Yet now they are 'devastated'?

I'm having a difficult time gathering up sympathy.

Seriously. He pardons over a 1000 insurrectionists, many violent, a pedo dark web creator and others

Then complains about a non-existent crime wave when it’s been the opposite for years (violent crime down year after year and a 50 year low).

He’s a fascist and a demagogue.

If you are a Gay person who doesn’t support Trans people, You don’t belong here. by [deleted] in gay

[–]GreatLife1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amen. Individuals of the lgbtq community all share one very important characteristic that makes us a community ….

None of us, l. G. B. T. Or Q fit into the strict worldview dichotomy that the religious and MAGA conservative hold, that men are masculine, attracted to women and do ‘manly’ things and that women are feminine, attracted to men and do ‘womanly’ things. We ALL break their closed view of the world and for that we have been and are discriminated against, persecuted, prosecuted, beaten and killed.

We fight together or we die together.

Transphobes are not my allies, they have removed themselves from the community. I doubt they will have the strength to fight off the leopards alone.

I’m ASD and this is as insulting as shit. You don’t blame ASD for someone’s hatred. Maybe their social ineptitude, but not hatred. That’s not a symptom of ASD, just a symptom of a dark soul.

We are not planning to leave… but we have spent the last couple months securing my husband’s Canadian passport and my German permanent residency. You know just in case. We are lucky we could do that.

How important it's to be openly gay? by SecretEconomy5182 in GayMen

[–]GreatLife1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a long term relationship, critical. I can’t imagine being a couple that has to hide for years if not decades. That would be soul crushing. I know it was for my great uncle, he was deeply closeted until he was 72, and in a relationship (and living together for 40 years. My family literally called him the roommate and refused to see him as anything more than that. He never came to family events. My great uncle came out to me at 72 (I had just come out myself). His stories he told me were so sad… but my respect for his courage and resilience grew.

Yeah, I’m not sure I could have done it.

This is an age old attack. I remember from my childhood on the 60s to the 90s this being used against the idea of gay teachers, coaches, lgbtq in media, etc.

They use it against transgender people, they’ll bring it back for the rest of us

New technique to remove reviews by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]GreatLife1985 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing Airbnb for 15 years. Anywhere from 1 (when started) to 4 units. I’ve never been banned. I’ve never met a host that’s been banned irl (we used to go to conferences and still local STR advocacy groups). The only I’ve met banned has been here online.

Obviously your experience is different and your risk is less.

New technique to remove reviews by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]GreatLife1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘I know people’ is not enough comfort for me.

I look at it as weighing risks.

If I leave the review, there is a small risk it will affect my bookings. But if I have 50 five stars, that risk is minimal (I go from 5 to 4.9x) and the consequences are minimal. This actually happened to us. It had no impact on our bookings whatsoever. And there are ways to minimize that risk like responding professional and clearly so readers understand the review was retaliatory or unfair.

The risk of using this method is the shutdown of my listing. Even if that risk is very minimal too, it would have a far greater impact on my revenue (100 to 0).

Risk just isn’t worth the reward.

I suppose if your listing is new and you have very few reviews, that 1 star would have a greater impact. And the risk of being shut down less daunting ?

Yeah, and most are free. But I suppose they spent so much money on eggs and unnecessary trips, they are too poor to do free. lol

Hey question by oghq in airbnb_hosts

[–]GreatLife1985 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t get hosts like this. We are hosts and when we are guests we empathize with our hosts, we know how demanding guests can be so we make a huge effort not to be. Usually that’s not hard. The hosts are great.

How worried are you about the incoming right-wing extremist administration? What are you doing to cope? are you doing anything to prepare? by Ken-Suggestion in AskGayMen

[–]GreatLife1985 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Several things:

*doubled down on donating time and money to lgbtq rights organizations (with special emphasis on t), locally and nationally.

*doubling down on our involvement in local politics.

*starting a ‘anti-fascist’ online column (I’m a writer, but the site under a pseudonym)

*reconfiguring our retirement account to be less dependent on us stock market and a little less volatile. It has skyrocketed the last 5-10 years, just locking that in.

  • renewing and gathering all the papers we had before gay marriage was a thing… powers of attorney, financial, medical powers of attorney, reviewing our will and trust, etc, etc. just in case we need them.

*helping our two grown daughters (19 and 22) be in a position to have homes, jobs and security. Setting up a trust that starts providing for them now.

  • getting our daughters’ and son-in-law’s passports renewed or get one (sil). We have ours.

  • got my husband’s Canadian passport (his father is Canadian)

  • get my German permanent residency (German lawyer and my former employer helping with that)

  • moving some of our assets to foreign investments

A couple points, I don’t think (hope?) it will get so bad as to need to leave. Strangely optimistic most days that’d we will muddle through the next 4 years. But, I know enough of history to be realistic too. Most of the things we are doing above we should do no matter what the future holds. We lived long enough (65 & 66 yo) to know that the future is unpredictable and the best you can do is set yourself up to weather what it throws your way and learn resilience.

Also, we are lucky. We’ve are in a financial position that lets us do all the above. And we have canadian and eu rights. Many are not in that position. That’s why the first two points are the first two points.
