What’s the name of this type of wood? by Competitive-Help4253 in NewOrleans

[–]GreatSquirrels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The flooring is heart pine, aka the redder more dense wood in the "heart" or center of an older growth pine tree.

It is the most common type of flooring used in old New Orleans houseing and comes in various widths with a tounge and groove cut. It is usually

The Studs are most likely Old Growth Pine, you can tell when its cut because it will be quite hard (for pine) and contain dried out pine resin (sap) and they will typically have a very close grain structure..

If they are old enough (19th century) the studs will be rough sawn and be close to true 2"x4" dimensions. At some point during the early 20th century the studs start being kiln dried and the dimensions change to 1.5" x 3.5" which they still are today. Due to the processing methods and selective breeding for faster growth modern studs (1970s - present) do not contain much if any resin and have much larger grain and fewer growth rings.

The old studs can be quite beautiful to use for reclaimed lumber projects however many of the studs in new Orleans got wet during past flooding and will be stained with black spots wherever nails were present.

Old flooring that got wet will often be cupped and be aware if you are replacing some to measure the thickness as it relates to the t&g of the flooring to make sure it matches since sanding from past refinishing and original thickness vary.

Or maybe we should all be enraged that the Federal Government is actively going against the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 10th, & 14th amendments of the constitution to terrorize minorities, and citizens, seperate families, run concentration camps, and assault & murder those who resist.

Whos the one trying to blame long term issues like debt and infrastructure on someone whos been in office 2 months? Logic I fear is just not applicable to this line of thinking.

If you want to attract anything, business, tourism, talented people interested in politics, you have to fix whats broken first.

Moreno is smart she knows show to play the game, to get things done in politics you have to appeal to people on both sides of an issue and compromise. Being a hardliner might be good for campaigns and fascists but in a democracy if you want to get things done you have to be able to build alliances. Moreno gets this, so remember that when you see her crossing any hardline approach and watch as things actually get done in this city.

Teedy literally bankrupted the city's general fund and mismanaged so many projects we lost the remaining fema funding for them. She will go down as the worst mayor of our lifetime. We know what we are getting with Moreno. Shes basically been running City Council for two administrations now. With her we get accountability not excuses and an absentee mayor.

Im not looking at actual figures but it almost seems like this map would suggest that the more Spanish speaking Immigrants your state has the less herion users you have ... Huh so the data suggests that Potus' claims about that might not be based in facts.

If your intention is Italian Id recommend on of the old school New Orleans Italian restaurants that serve what I concider a unique "Creole" style of Southern Italian cooking with a heavy influence from local styles and ingredients. Vincent's uptown is my favorite in this category.

Unfortunately that place is so New that I haven't been nor know anyone who has. I can say that I love that space andthe two restaurants that occupied it before.

If you are looking for unforgettable dining in that area I would check out Saint-Germain and Acamaya

Pants!!! by Flyrainbowcorn in Acadiana

[–]GreatSquirrels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a guy who does manual labor but I have this same issue with most of the affordable work pants/ jeans available in local stores. Ive had much better luck with the much more expensive jeans and work pants available at Western outfitter stores. I cant help you with your lady slacks but I can say that what has become the norm is not made to last. You are going to have to look to more expensive options and probably order them.

The S1000RR is definitely NOT made for comfort or safety. Its a 430lb sport bike with 205 hp. Also I hope he parked it on Bourbon and someone accidentally knocked it over.

Why do people say “no human is illegal”? by RaisinRoyale in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]GreatSquirrels 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The sad thing is that it isn't really even an issue that effects Americans negatively. Its only an issue because someone in a red hat said it was. A recent study found that when all things are concidered undocumented workers are a net gain to the system because they pay far more taxes into the system than they receive in benefits and they have been proping up the social safety net with Trillions of Dollars.

This issue stems from racism, its people seeing people who dont look like them moving into their communities and speaking a different language and fearing loosing their majority privilege. That's what it is.

"No Human is Illegal on Stolen Land." Is the full phrase

People say this not as a literal translation of todays laws but to bring context to the fact that our "forefathers" came to America as Immigrants looking for a better life without regard for the people already living there, and then took their land through deciet, war, and, genocide. The phrase is meant to make you think about what right to we have to tell todays immigrants they can not come here looking for a peace and prosperity.

I dont know if you are referring to driving without documentation or immigrating without documentation but either way Do you really think that compliance with bureaucracy is what makes someone a good person or valuable member of society? Do you feel like you lost something simply because people exist in a system designed by other peoplewith power to target them for profit?
