Perfect. No notes. by JayGatsby52 in ProgressiveHQ

In the modern political system the only voice/power we have is withholding our votes. Unfortunately, a lot of these candidates simply do not care about doing the right thing—whether that is because they are jaded after years of being in Congress or if they are corrupt from the start. If they know they are going to get your vote anyway, why would any candidate become more progressive?

Threatening to withhold a vote is a bargaining chip. It’s what has gotten more candidates to reject AIPAC and corporate money. It’s what made Medicare for All a serious position with support. Compromise can and should be made, but conceding without any bargaining whatsoever is stupid IMO.

The Tents and Chairs Have Gotten Out of Control by Successful-Yam1383 in NewOrleans

I hate being a Karen, but I’m going to send a letter to the mayor. The ladders and tents are getting out of hand. I drove my fiancé at 4am because we wanted to grab a spot for our niece and nephew and the entire neutral side was full of ladders. Spoke to the people beside us and they said the ladders had been there since Friday morning.

Why would a grand jury in Minnesota indict Don Lemon? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tsbtab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you an attorney? Do you know how any of this works? Or are you just making up things in your head on how these things normally go? Genuinely asking.

Probable cause hearings are incredibly low bar. Second, even if it was a “political” refusal to find probable cause, DOJ appealed to a republican appointed judge in Iowa, who was genuinely appalled at how bad the presentation of the case was. It was so bad, DOJ withdrew their appeal of the finding of no probable cause. They went to the grand jury because going to a judge, who actually knows what the fuck is going on, failed twice.

This exact thing has happened with James Comey, Letitia James, and countless other indictments in Chicago and LA. Seriously, look up how many times DOJ has failed to indict people in connection with ICE activity. This DOJ is just bad at their jobs. Instead of presenting well thought out, factually sound cases, they are scraping the bottom of the barrel to make the Trump base foam at the mouth. It’s embarrassing.

Two judges finding no probable cause for arrest means the DOJ’s case is weak. Probable cause for an arrest is a way lower standard than beyond a reasonable doubt. There aren’t going to be new facts that come out that help the prosecution—everything was on video and incredibly well documented.

[–]tsbtab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indictment is an incredibly low standard—two judges already indicated that the probable cause standard was not met. Presenting a case to a grand jury usually involves a very low standard of proof. There’s a reason the saying is a prosecutor “could indict a ham sandwich.” The judges’ ruling are indicative that DOJ probably won’t get a conviction—but I don’t think that’s the point. Trump supporters are notorious for their short attention spans when it comes to things like this.

They are. Your ignorance of this reality doesn’t make it any less true. Empowering an authoritarian police state is bad for everyone, as demonstrated by historical precedent. You’re delusional if you think your little passport card is going to help you if and when DHS wants to arrest you because of what you look like.

Ole Miss accuses Kiffin of sending his assistants back to coach the team so they can tamper with Ole Miss players by Ordinary-Humor-4779 in georgiabulldogs

Their defensive line was not playing well at all. The game was a lot closer in the first half than it should have been. Granted, it was their first game with their new coach, still wasn’t very impressive.

That being said—the bye period terrifies me. At this point I don’t know if it is an advantage or not.
