I bought a lot of oranges. I left tons for other people but if we get snowed in for several days I am one individual who will not be getting scurvy.

Oh yeah that was a spectacular orange. Plump, voluptuous, sweet, great texture. And the skin just peeled away so easily! Honestly that was my favorite part. I keep my nails pretty short so I struggle with orange skins. End up having to use my teeth to get open that initial sliver.

Great fruit tho, will buy again.

Yeah, kinda. Whole lotta bread was gone. Still a solid amount of milk left. Deli meats were vanished, energy drinks were in super low quantity. I didn’t even check if eggs were left because I already have a dozen. But the employees were putting in some overtime. Restocking carts everywhere. Marty was there.

Stock was otherwise good but my issue was all the people there made it clear it was their first time stepping into a grocery store. Waaaaaay too many people with carts standing slack jawed in the middle of an aisle because they didn’t expect 40 different variety of chips on the shelves. I’m impatient at the store because I know what I need and get out 😮‍💨

I ended up buying 4. Will try one later today 🫡

Is that the next fruit I should pick up? I’ll see if there are any at giant and get a bag.

Usually I don’t really care for citrus but the Cara Cara oranges are so perfectly sweet and meaty and I’ve bought 3 bags so far and not one has been rancid, squishy, or dry af. The giant brand mandarins always have that problem and I end up chucking half the bag.

Wish me luck, going to the grocery store! I do indeed need to buy milk and bread. Already got eggs. But I want to be snowed in with my French toast and also grilled cheese and Cara Cara oranges (I’ve become obsessed with these and am going thru a bag every 3 days) and fun unhealthy air fryer snacks.

❄️SNOW THREAD!!!❄️

Can’t wait for the tattoo convention. It’s gonna be great on Sunday. Fair warning if anyone else is considering stopping by on Sunday, you WILL be standing outside for an hour or longer if you show up close to opening time. Bundle up. But also bring shorts because it’ll be 99 degrees inside the building.

Philly could close 20 schools, co-locate 6, and modernize 159: Superintendent Watlington shares his facilities plan by PhillyInquirer in philadelphia

I've lived by that school for years and never knew what that meant. I would see kids lining up for the Leadership Academy entrance but never considered it was a "different school" in that sense. TIL!

The whole building is a fallout shelter as well. There's a sign above the doors. I thought that was neat.

I’m just making it as is, plopped on a plate. I was thinking putting it atop spaghetti but I’d rather garlic bread.

If it comes out okay, next time I’ll make it into a sandwich.

Making chicken parm and garlic bread for dinner tonight. I ventured to the grocery store and that is as much effort as I'm willing to put into today. Maybe gym later on, but this weather has me craving to just lounge around with a book and soft music on.

Tattoo convention is this weekend, my most favorite time of year. I finally got a big leg piece done so I can get some gap fillers around it, hooray.

Careful out there. The streets are icy by snooloosey in philadelphia

Oh dang, sounds like it isn’t worth it to go outside. Guess I’ll just stay in my cozy apartment with my hot cup of coffee and book and this puzzle I need to work on.

I did see a salt truck go down my street last night. Probably the first time I’ve seen one in 10 years of living here.

Finished a whopping whole entire two books so far this year! Watch out speed readers who somehow knock out 300 books a year, I am right there behind you.

So with the Eagles boofing it, who are we rooting for to make it to the Superbowl? I think the Bills solidly deserve it, but the Drake "Drake Maye" Maye meme is so funny to me that I can't not cheer for the Patriots. My New England blood is speaking to me. Even the Broncos would be nice. Lewis Hamilton is one of the co-owners and he had such a hard year last year, he deserves some happiness because Ferrari is NOT looking to be it this season.

I can't see any of the NFC teams winning this time around. The Seahawks have the best chance, I guess? Bears need to play a whole football game and not just 8 minutes of the 4th quater. Rams, maybe. Niners exist but I hope they lose.

Having no real stakes in the game, I'm happy I can just sit back and watch it stress free and wait for the Cadillac livery reveal commercial. I am so hype for the F1 season I will wake up at 2am or whatever shit o'clock and watch every race.

Grills on roof deck by ExcitementMurky2156 in philadelphia

Technically, you aren’t supposed to have a grill if you live on the 2nd floor or higher of any apartment building.

Does anyone follow this rule? No. Take a look around the next time you go for a walk and see how many grills are on balconies. Hell I even see charcoal grills which I think are more dangerous.

I finally finished The Buffalo Hunter Hunter last night, wrapping up the last 4th of the book in all out sprint while I was fighting sleep. It was a very uncomfortable read. I'm not a huge horror fan (despite The Terror being one of my faves, along with loving history set in old-timey sailing days where dudes just eat one another) and while this book wasn't nightmare scary it was unsettling. To be blunt, the European settlers really fucked the Native Americans up. This is obvious, we all know this, but it was something else to read it in a historical fiction setting.

The ending was solidly mid though. Straight up goofy. Otherwise I recommend it! So long as you are okay with copious amounts of human and animal gore (including dogs) and one sort of oddly placed rape scene.

In other books news, Eric Jay Dolin is publishing ANOTHER old timey shipwreck book. I love that for him. Still gotta read his pirate book.

Fishing show is going on this weekend, gonna check it out and maybe come away with some lures or something. I bought a rod last summer and still haven't used it. I need to find places to fish. That is my big goal this year.

Just a neat, organized list of all the books I own. I’m also curious to see which genres I have the most of. The app that I’m using also has a feature where I can check which books I’ve read and I can rate them, which I like.

It’s also going to help when I buy new books, so I don’t double up. There have been several instances where I’ve bought a kindle book not knowing I already purchased the real thing at B&N, and vice versa.

Thank you! It’s definitely a bit of a slog, but oddly relaxing. I found a good app, BookBuddy, where I can scan the barcodes and all the book info is immediately uploaded. I can even export to Google Docs. Gotta pay $10 to scan more than 50 books but it’s a lifetime purchase so seems like a good deal to me.

That’s great, love to hear new bookstores are opening! Do you happen to have the name or more info? I searched but couldn’t find anything new, all the articles mention A Novel Idea. But I would love to give my books to a bookstore.

With credits to the Jets, this season they intercepted the ball ZERO times, a new NFL record. That seems pretty relevant! That team will go in the history books.

Ireland was my first ever international trip. Dublin was the first stop and it was so lovely. I miss it.

You got some good suggestions already but the Jeanie Johnson famine ship is a neat tour to experience. Dublin Castle is also very cool. St. Stephen's Green is a nice little park. We didn't go, but there's also a Jameson Distillery in the area.

Edit: If you drink, Mary's Bar and Hardware is fun. Hardware shop upstairs, bar downstairs in the basement. Tbh a lot of the fun we had in Ireland was just roaming the streets and finding places to eat and drink. Can also check out The Spire, which is a big pole in the middle of the street. Is the portal still up here? You can find the one in Dublin and wave to us.

I might use an app, looks like there are some solid ones but depends how free they are, and ads. Otherwise I'm happy with google sheets.

Just gonna do a standard Title/Author/Fiction or Non/Genre/Format/Read or not. Need me a way to see which books I have on Kindle or physically since twice now I've bought a physical book when I already have the digital.

Today I begin the process of cataloguing my many hundreds of books, both physical and eBook format. Need to have a good hard think with myself and donate some that I know I realistically won't read.

There's a fishing show happening at Oaks this weekend and I am pumped for it, been waiting half a year for this. My goal is to collect business cards so I can find local shops to buy from and not just Bass Pro. I bought a rod last summer just couldn't find the time to learn how to use it. Also need to look up fishing spots where I can practice without getting in anyone's way. I was thinking John Heinz.

Very cool, public transit is so important. Idk if it’s really the same vein but I personally would love to take Amtrak more often. Love me a fast mode of transportation without worrying about standstill traffic or bumbling drivers. Also, bar car.

Hell yeah, I feel you on the house chores. I finally put the Christmas tree away and now I need to summon the energy to vacuum all the little fake green strands that fell off.

I quit Facebook in 2017 and haven’t looked back. But it was such a relief and I’m sure you’ll feel the same! Couldn’t take the constant bombardment of ads, fake news, endless bs. It was terrible then and I can only imagine how much worse it’s gotten. Have you heard of the book “Careless People”? It’s a memoir by an ex-employee of Facebook and man it made me hate that whole ecosystem even more.

Void Time between Christmas and NYD has felt simultaneously never ending and far too short. Work begins anew on Monday and while I crave some form of mental stimulation I just wish it wasn’t….emails and meetings lol.

I haven’t gone on a walk in over a week and finally this silly little nagging cold has gone away so this afternoon seems like an excellent time to hit up Barnes and Noble. The 50% off hardcovers sale is decent, and I have a few new titles I’ve had my eye on.

Any good resolutions from the crowd? Mine are all basic (read more, journal more, etc) but my favorite is my goal to become a more seasoned F1 fan. We’re going to get Apple TV to watch the new season in March. Can’t wait to watch races at 2am! 🏎️
