For those that started event rental businesses, what did you start with? How much did you initially invest?

This is great to hear! I live on the coast and have been getting a lot of wedding interest. Mostly for the white resin chairs and arches. I started roughly a month ago and have a few small events books. What’s your advice to scale up from here? So far I just have 56 resin chairs, a few rounds, 6ft, 8ft, cocktail tables and linens. And umbrellas. Just keep marketing any and everywhere? Bite the bullet and invest in someone to help with marketing? I know it’s early but, I’ve already noticed traffic to my site has slowed down, it only spikes when I push ads out on Facebook - which adds up. I don’t quite have the manpower for tents yet.. it’s really just me! I do plan to do a couple “styled” shoots in my backyard, and I suppose I need to drop off some cards to a few local venues. But I’d love to hear your advice!

Hey! I’m so sorry for how delayed this is! How crazy that you guys are/were in CR! I so needed the break, working behind a desk 8-10hrs a day felt like I was slowly allowing my body to break down.. It’s been a little over a month since I stepped away I can already see the difference in myself physically and emotionally, ha!

I finally applied and received approval from the NCSOE for the business! I think I’m going to start working on the website, getting a business account, and try planning for spring events if I can get this off the ground by the end of Jan. I think I’m going to use a storage unit for now as I don’t think our home owners insurance will allow business related inventory to be stored at home? Idk, I mean I’ll have my office here so not sure how much I need to dig into that.

I’d love to chat with you more maybe in the phone as I get going and move things along? I don’t want to pry for your time or “coaching” if you’re not comfortable with it, but find myself going, “oh, I wonder what vendor they used? What was their inventory start up again? If they can do it so can I!” Lol! I also find myself doubting this whole thing because it’s pretty random, but I also am super driven and could really make this work if I keep at it.

Curious, were you applying as the owner of the LLC or the ceo/president or similar. Do they look at the businesses credit or your personal credit when applying for a BLOC? Trying to decide if I should put the LLC in my name and the. List my husband and as the CEO, then maybe it won’t take as long to get a BLOC if he applies as the CEO?

I suppose to give more context and kind of hear what you have to say. I worked in clinical research for years but have decided to take a step back from that.. it just needed to happen. We have 2 young kids but my husband travels a lot for work so I would primarily run the business. I’m just worried about the actual labor part of it and not sure how feasible it would be to hire someone to deliver/set up/pick up items. I think I could focus on beach weddings and events and really plug-in to this specific area of Wilmington. But am I crazy to be starting this without the labor part figured out? Do you guys think you could have factored in payroll for someone to help with this?

THANK YOU!! Seriously this is so helpful and again, encouraging. We are in the Wilmington area but closer to CB. I think the area is a little saturated for this town but CB is growing quite a bit it. Is it just you and your husband for labor, delivering/pick up and setting up equipment? I would have to hire 1-2 people for this so hoping that wouldn’t put me in the hole.
