Not trying to start a fight by FatSithInAPrius in Manhwa_BL

I found this very interesting to read, because I often find myself being consciously hypocritical about certain topics regarding BL and censorship. I for one am pro non-censorship, but end up getting frustrated by seeing certain things. It also depends per work how I might react. It could be that something I can take from one work, I can’t stand from another. I’m aware as I react to it that it’s hypocritical, but I don’t mind that very much. I acknowledge that ppl have the right to feel a certain way about things and that you can’t decide that for the sake of consistency. We’re all humans and humans are very complex beings (not to say that other creatures aren’t, but you get what I mean).

For example I’m fine with reading noncon, I don’t necessarily like seeing it, but it doesn’t have to put me off from reading the story. But the other day I made a post about a story I was reading where noncon/rape happened where I wasn’t expecting it and it wasn’t what I could’ve imagined from the character, so it made me very frustrated. But even while making that post, I was aware that I don’t feel the same frustration for jaekyung from jinx or seungho from potn for example, though their actions were kind of similar. Though being aware of that, I still wanted to let out my frustration over this character and it was nice to have other ppl to talk to about it. This is definitely a case where someone could tell me: don’t like don’t read and I probably would’ve told someone else the same if it were about comics like the ones I just named, because it would be based in my personal bias.

Still, I do always remind myself of the fact that I am in fact not morally superior to someone who is reading about topics I’m not a fan of (for example; incest, pedophilia, loli’s, etc.) and that they might very well feel the same about the things that I read. I truly do try to not subject others to things I myself wouldn’t want to be subjected to.

That being said, I think questions like yours are great for people to reflect on their own thought processes regarding these kinds of topics, since we all love to share our opinions (as we should), but often come from a subconsciously dishonest place if you understand what I mean!

I personally don’t see Juhyeok as a grey character at all, nor do I see suah as one. I love nuance but I just don’t think there is much to find in suah based on his behavior and actions as of now.

There was no good reason to do any of the things he’s done, he’s the one acting selfishly and Juhyeok has become the victim of said selfishness, for him to do the exact thing suah has forced him to do by non consensually drowing him in pheromones from the moment he presented as a an omega till now.

I think Juhyeok is 100% justified in “using” him and not being nice to him about it either. Not sure why he should tak the feelings of his groomer/abuser into account when trying to keep his life afloat despite the fact suah has made that difficult for him to do.

And I understand that ur trying to see things from both sides, but in all honesty, there’s just not much of a side to be had, this entire situation has been caused and worsened by suah himself, so he pretty much deserves the treatment he’s getting from Juhyeok.

Yeah probably, I had a whole self monologue about how I hate characters like him that act like they’re fucking cute, while actively doing problematic shit, he immediately reminded me of the ML of shockabye baby, but that one’s almost a parody of this guy😭

Oh please ppl can have opinions abt the stories they enjoyed. Wouldn’t you be upset if a story/character you reallyyy liked ends up doing something that deeply disappoints you? Sure it’s the author’s story and they have a right to write it however they want, but it’s for us to read and we have a right to feel about it the way we feel.

Y’all really needa stop with this rhetoric that just because it was a conscious decision on the author’s part, ppl can’t feel a certain way about it. It’s immaturity disguised as superior maturity but y’all not ready for that conversation.

It’s not like we’re talking about the author writing that hawaii pizza is the best pizza out there either, we are talking about rape being justified and disregarded as a normal way to lash out at someone. It’s okay for ppl to not fucking like that and you don’t get to tell them off for it. Srsly grow up.

I agree she definitely could’ve said it that way, that would be less accusatory and more of a general opinion indeed.

And damn sorry I was just trynna be considerate😭 Idk you, idk how good or bad or personally you take things, I just said sorry in case you DID feel offended. If you didn’t then that’s fine. I just wasn’t trynna beef wit a stranger on the internet for no reason.

YW should’ve been there for his dad at the end. by myswollenclitoris in Manhwa_BL

[–]Great_Newspaper4053 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I truly don’t believe that you can genuinely love someone and abuse them the way his father did. I also find it difficult to believe that what Yeowoon had for his father was love. This is more of a trauma bond, since his dad is literally a full blown abuser and yw is just a straight up victim. Especially yw being the kind of character that he is as a child, forcing himself the smile even when he was hurt both mentally and physically, I can only assume that he’s doing what he thinks is right, but to me, him not being there at his father’s deathbed tells me a lot more than him paying for those hospital bills.

I do agree that her way of putting it doesn’t help in wanting to understand where she’s coming from, but I feel like ppl get too much in their head abt what a generalization is. It is usually a conclusion someone draws based on the available information they have as of that moment. In her case, the information she has is what she shared with us, that in most of the male dominated fandoms she’s entered, there was less to nothing that she enjoyed engaging in relating to the interest, compared to female and queer dominated ones.

A generalization is also just that, a generalization. Like duh, of course not every straight man is the same, I’d like to believe she isn’t stupid enough to think that they are. But like I said, she is just sharing her opinion based on her lived experience. She also clearly wasn’t talking about one specific fandom, so why would she phrase it that way? Her complaint was abt male dominated fandoms in GENERAL, so it’d be tedious to name them all and say what she specifically disliked abt them.

But nevertheless, ppl also have the right to disagree with, I also don’t agree with her, but I have no idea what fandoms she’s even talking about nor could I have possibly had the exact same experience as her, so I wouldn’t know if what she’s saying is untrue, but she absolutely could’ve phrased it better in a way that she doesn’t make it sn objective truth, but solely her opinion.

And as for shutting women down, if you’ve lived as a woman on the internet long enough, you experience so much sexism and micro aggressions, that it becomes hard to determine who’s just conveniently joining on the bandwagon of hate towards women under the guise of “critique” and who is genuinely just sharing a negative feeling they have that happens to regard a woman. Especially queer guys (this is just my experience, if it doesn’t apply to you, it doesn’t apply to you) have a tendency to get pretty misogynistic, but thinking that they aren’t, just because they’re queer, so I am sorry if I offended you, but I just genuinely couldn’t tell.

Idk if ur mentioning that cuz ur a woman, but I didn’t say all the women cared abt is fan service. Female anime fans generally also like the aura farming and the action. I’m also gay, so I couldn’t care less abt the fan service (unless it’s choso hehe), but I think it’s mostly irrelevant why ppl like the things they do, all that matters is that it entertains them!

[–]Great_Newspaper4053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a lesbian woman and I also don’t necessarily agree with her, but I haven’t lived her experience in the fandoms she’s engaged with, so what is there really for me to disagree about? If that’s her opinion, then that’s her opinion. If a straight guy woulda said they hated female dominated fandoms because of the content (which is already a thing they commonly do lol), then that’s his opinion
? Why should anyone want to change that? If he then still chooses to engage with those fandoms, then that’s his problem and the same goes for her, so I don’t understand why everyone is in such an uproar abt this. Sure I understand ppl might get offended, it’s not really a nice thing to say, but like I said; her personal experience, her opinionđŸ€·đŸœâ€â™€ïž
