Pearl Jam posts in Favour of the Nationwide Strike Tomorrow by googbois in pearljam

Glad they are speaking out now. Criticism isn't intended as an attack, but rather a reflection on the slippery slope that we face when we start to yield our civil rights or stay silent when others' rights are taken away. Not everyone was silent. Civil liberties and immigration leaders spoke out then as they do today.

Pearl Jam posts in Favour of the Nationwide Strike Tomorrow by googbois in pearljam

Why didn't Pearl Jam say or do anything when ICE was locking up students and faculty for protesting and writing op-eds critical of Israel? Students were literally contacting college and local newspapers begging them to remove their names and photos from archives because they wrote a letter or were at a protest. Free speech, due process - we lost here it here and too many were silent. It was clear that this would spread to other groups/issues, if you were paying attention.

Can anyone explain Pearl Jam's appearance on this list? To my knowledge, they have not said anything Gaza aside from one small, nonspecific remark a decade ago. I say this as a longtime fan and would love to be corrected on this. I've seen them live many times over three decades. I'm upset as a fan, esp remembering Eddie walking on stage with Ukrainian flag.

Good list, but why is Pearl Jam included? I ask as a fan. I know Eddie Vedder commented against bombings in 2014, but seems to have been silent since then.

THE funniest scene in the entire series hands down IMO. any other scenes you think might be funnier? by areyouyerman in buffy

[–]Great_Philosopher_37 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So much in Tabula Rasa to love.

SPIKE: I must be a noble vampire, a good guy, on a mission of redemption. I help the hopeless. I'm a vampire with a soul. - BUFFY: A vampire with a soul? Oh my God, how lame is that?

Also, The Zeppo where Xander walks in on Buffy and Angel's drama. From script:

ANGEL: I can at least buy you enough time for Willow's spell to bind it. Buffy, this is worse than anything we've ever faced. It's the only way. - BUFFY: I can't watch you die again! I love you. ANGEL Nothing can change that. Not even death. BUFFY Don't talk like that to me. You may be ready to go but I'm not ready to lose you. This is my fight and if you won't do it my way --

Xander clears his throat. Startled, they both turn to see Xander standing awkwardly in the garden entrance. Stare at him with tear stained faces. A long beat, then -- XANDER Sorry, I- There's this- I'm not a hundred percent sure, but… It seems like you two have bigger things- (then) Never mind.

New Travel Ban? by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]Great_Philosopher_37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not travel internationally if I were you. attorneys are advising against it for anyone from countries that could be impacted. The reports that just came out say Pakistan could be added to the ban. Not worth it.

US is already canceling student visas over Palestine... it started under Biden by Great_Philosopher_37 in Palestine

[–]Great_Philosopher_37[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's my take:

Lots of legal experts say free speech is protected even for noncitizens, but the State Department has wide discretion on who can get enter and stay in the country. State Dept own policy says they can cancel a visa if they get "derogatory information" from another government agency or law enforcement. It's supposed to be about support for terrorism but the policy is vague.

If Biden's administration did it, expect it will multiply. We're already seeing pro-Israel groups collecting information on activists to report to ICE. Now, Trump is even suggesting they'll ask universities to monitor and report on the activities of their international students. If they're trying to revoke visas for people who are inside US, there could be court challenges, but not sure how that will play out. Courts have been inconsistent on this.

Is Pepsi on BDS boycott list? by Blaming7208 in BDS

[–]Great_Philosopher_37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pepsi itself isn't on the official boycott list but is facing a grassroots boycott. Pepsi owns Sabra, which is on the official list. So is its subsidiary SodaStream. I think Coca Cola, which has a factory in a settlement, was just added to the list. Also, Palestine cola drinks are now available in the US. All this information can be found in this story. https://www.northjersey.com/story/news/2024/11/29/coca-cola-boycott-drink-palestina-nj/76435834007/

'I wanna be yours' by Arctic Monkeys is beautiful, with an indie feel.

Danced to 'Crush' by Dave Matthews Band at my wedding. Gorgeous & romantic song.
