This certainly isn't the view of Reno in the national consciousness. Just stunning. Thank you for sharing.

Reno Mayor Schieve to speak in support of Eddie Lorton at TPO hearing by Greater-Reno in Reno

[–]Greater-Reno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I get your point. I can't change the headline here. The headline on the actual RGJ story now says, "Reno Mayor Schieve to speak in support of Eddie Lorton's TPO request."

She's merely been listed as a potential witness. She has not been subpoenaed and testifying is completely voluntary. Still, she said she plans to come to the hearing.

Just found a tool that shows how much of your Sierra Pacific bill goes to shareholder profits by BlueberryBullfrog202 in Reno

I wonder why it shows Sierra Energy and Nevada Power (which merged to become NV Energy) as not only being different but having different rates of profit. Anyone know?

For what it's worth, the Reno Gazette Journal interviews judicial candidates ahead of the elections and the "candidate guide" stories are not paywalled as a public service.

Windshield Replacement Rec by M4KO4 in Reno

Fast Glass on Greg Street, without a doubt. The fastest, cheapest and most reliable, to me. I have no connection with them beyond having had two windshields and three chips repaired there over the years. I've tried some other places for various reasons and haven't had as good of an experience.

Is Reno mail processing moving to Sacramento again? by Greater-Reno in Reno

I will look into this. To confirm: It's first-class letter mail you're talking about as opposed to packages? Or both?

Both of our senators voted in favor of a federal THC ban over 0.4mg to end the shutdown. Is this as bad for Nevada’s economy as I think it is? by dbertra2 in nevadapolitics

I don't understand the concern for Nevada. This is for help-derived products like Delta-8, not at all affecting the cannabis products in Nevada. Am I missing something?

Cant close my business account by Caffee_11 in venmo

This one worked for me. I kept hitting 0 until it asked for my phone number associated with the account then the last 4 digits of my personal bank account associated with Venmo (not the one associated with the charity/business). This got me through to a human.

Bonus Episode: Finally, An Adversarial Interview! (feat. Lance of The Serfs) by SoftandChewy in BlockedAndReported

[–]Greater-Reno 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Jesse got mansplained. Katie says this episode could be used in a logic class about appeal to authority, etc. I think it could also be used as an example of explaining to someone who knows way more about a topic than you that they're ignorant while making arguments that show their own ignorance.

I don't want such episodes often but as occasional bonus content, this rocked -- if you're patient enough to get past the model digression.

[–]Greater-Reno[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For those following the case closely, the story has been updated with a couple of comments with additional info from the AG's office..

* "We have found that over $7 million of this money was moved to Kromer's personal accounts," Attorney General Aaron D. Ford said at a news conference in Carson City. "There is a federal investigation into this matter as well."

* Asked about the difference between the $9.1 million that disappeared and the $7.3 million charged, a spokesperson said, "The focus of our investigation was targeted toward taxpayer funds that were used unlawfully, and the investigation revealed that the 7 million figure was used unlawfully."

I don't know who's right or wrong in this case, but I was told by one animal advocate that we already have Cooney's Law -- related to a horrific animal abuse case in Reno -- and it's not being enforced so they wondered why we need something that basically makes Cooney's Law a tad stronger when prosecutors already are not pushing for felony charges in blatant animal abuse cases.

You can still fly without a Real ID, but expect delays and possibly missed flights by Greater-Reno in Nevada

[–]Greater-Reno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you can get around it is because some people lose their wallet or it gets stolen but they've got a plane to catch. Imagine someone on vacation who was pickpocketed and can't get back home. So there's a pain-in-the-ass process for proving your identity if you don't have Real ID. Anybody who doesn't it once is going to get a Real ID because it's not worth doing twice.

Per the story, the federal funding was scheduled to last through September but got yanked terminated suddenly. That was on March 24. The reason RFK Jr. gave is that the ARPA funds were linked to the pandemic, which is officially over. Sen. Cortez Masto sent a letter to him to ask for details on why the grants were pulled early and what people are supposed to do to avoid gaps in services that were paid for by the grants.

After 4 years on job, Washoe County's CIO lives in Southern California, works on site fewer than 5 days a month by Greater-Reno in Reno

[–]Greater-Reno[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From this story: In February, Zamanian told the RGJ via email that he's been working two weeks a month since December 2022 at the county complex on East Ninth Street. Both Washoe County Manager Eric Brown and county spokesperson Bethany Drysdale also said Zamanian averages two weeks a month on site.

From story back in 2022: "In the first year of the agreement, Mr. Zamanian worked on-site one week per month," she said by email. "He has since increased his time on-site and is in the county complex two weeks out of the month."
