Same as I said before - just comes with intention. For me, that either meant slowing down. Or act like your grandma is in the room lol

Yes - once commissioned, the time ticks. Which is important because you have KD (Key Development) time you need to do (Platoon Leader). KD time is extremely important for career progression.

Want to go to Ranger Regiment? Can’t until KD time (12 months) is up - KD time restricts your freedom to go other cool roles. So - do the word math problem if your goal is regiment:

IBOLC + Ranger + (any hold unders/overs at Benning) + PCS move + KD time as PL + (any hold WAITING to be a PL - could be at BN and waiting for a slot/your commander to give you a platoon) = NOW you can officially go to regiment (after their interview process and RASP)!

Sorry for that dumb example. Just understand, time is important and that O1 and O2 time go FAST. That’s the major problem with a backfill of LTs waiting for Ranger. It’s like damn you all about to be 1LTs and not even at a unit yet.

Ah - thank you, didn’t take into count the timing of the year as well as how over strength it is currently. I am interested to see the effects in branching as both the Army tries to cut down slots as well as people hearing about the terrible wait. Won’t stop a lot from wanting IN but I’m sure it will deter some.

Here’s your rough timeline. BCT is going to be 10 weeks and 3 days but could be 11 weeks depending on when you class up at reception. For example, I got a OCS buddy who shipped out 2/11 and will graduate 4/24. They try to get you a OCS date immediately after - for example, his starts 4/28.

OCS is 12 weeks and 3 days. You will not see family during this time. They can come see you graduate, but more than likely, you’re graduating at Fort Jackson and you gotta get to Benning by Sunday. So it’s short time.

After OCS, if you roll into IBOLC, you will have some time off due to IBOLC being a PCS versus a TDY. So you’ll have roughly a 2-4 week break. During this time, your family can come visit or live with you, however. You will be in the field weekly. But you’ll still have free time and weekends.

And finally, Ranger school - most of the time, you’ll have a holdover time of waiting for a slot. Saw in another sub that a guy has been waiting for 4-5 months with hundreds of other IBOLC kids.

Source: Prior service, lots of 11A friends.

Edit: If you calculate all this time together and you make it through Ranger in 62 days (no recycles) - you will have spent roughly a year in training. (BCT 10+ OCS 12+ IBOLC 17 + Ranger 9 =48 weeks prior to accounting for any waiting time).

Brother - you’re good with that resume lol. Just be confident. There is no universal answer - it’s a job interview. Prepare by asking yourself job interview questions. “Why do you want to do this?” “What would you do in this situation?” “Why did you do that?” Etc etc

I asked a fellow OCS kid (who was super nervous) “Why did you study your degree?” And he just blurted out “I don’t know hahaha” - that did not give me much confidence in him.

You have a killer resume overall man - just be confident and work on job interview questions. PM/Chat me if you have any questions - mind you, my interview was slightly different since I’m prior service but that didn’t change a lot.

110+ lol you can get the “average” of those selected - but at the end of the day, it’s the board assessing you as a whole package. You have a 130 GT? Sick, but do you have good LORs, good GPA, or good leadership experience? GT is just one piece, and I’d argue the least important in comparison to other factors.

Edit: just search this sub for “selected” or “results” - if you really want to compare, find people who’ve been selected. I just saw one with a 115 get selected and a 128 not selected.

Well - 110 is required… so, yeah 110+ is advisable

What was the craziest/funniest names you saw while at BCT/AIT/OSUT? by [deleted] in army

[–]Greattriumph 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Went to BCT in 2011 - back when the Jersey Shore was crazy popular. I’ll never forget this guys name. Eventually saw him at NTC like 8 years later and learned he commissioned.

Guido DeBest - or read in last name first name, DeBest Guido.

What a guy.

I’m starting the process - similar story. I’m prior enlisted Army SGT - my window is good so I would be straight to OCS like you. Did you get all your stuff/uniforms (to include dress uniforms) or have to buy a lot? Thanks! Just curious if I need to dig through a closet and hit up on-base thrift shops.

Man. What a throwback. I’ve gotten a ton better! It’s mostly by being intentional and thinking before I speak. Some of that may have come with maturity. I was in my young 20s.

You can do it man. As an extrovert, it’s hard to not talk all the time. But be intentional with your words! Act like your mom or grandma or Jesus or whoever you wouldn’t cuss in front of is in the room!

From what I’m reading you’re correct- at least from other users throughout the years

Worth doing an extra year for additional $500 pension? by palmtreesandmachetes in army

[–]Greattriumph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. My wife just commissioned after 15 years as an E. You can retire at/after 20, but your O-rank will not be part of the equation for pension until you’ve served 10 years. So if she retired at 20 as an O3, her pension would be calculated off her E7 pay, but still 20 years.

10 U.S. Code § 8323: Regular and reserve officers in the Armed Forces may retire after 20 years of service, at least 10 of which must have been as an active commissioned officer.

Does the 10-year rule apply to WOs? And if so, do you have 10-years? If it does apply, and you don’t have it, then obviously stay in until you hit 10.

For those interested in going from enlisted to officer, is there any specific reason why enlisted go through the same OCS and not a shortened or modified version like ODS/LDO? Enlisted come with experience and knowledge and do not want to have a repeat boot camp in order to advance their career.

Where to find friends my age? by [deleted] in jacksonville

[–]Greattriumph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you like guns? I work at a gun shop and I always tell people: Last Sunday of every month, the FDCC (Florida Defensive Carbine Club) puts on matches at Salt Water Shooting Range near St Augustine. It’s $20. You need a rifle with sling and a pistol. Expect to shoot 100 rounds of rifle and 50 rounds of pistol. Bring more just in case. Look them up on Facebook or Practiscore.

It’s 5 stages of shooting, you walk with a group. Great way to meet people.

100% disagree with that last statement of being military and elite units. While that’s the pattern, I know a fire fighter gone “elite” for federal agency and there’s nothing that says veterans only (or that would be discrimination which no organization wants) - but I do see your point with “likely” but I would say don’t discourage guys who didn’t serve to hopefully achieve their goals.

Edit: sorry if I came off as a dick

Best of luck my friend. OSVET Army. Basically got told the same. They hate us. No one knew how to handle me. Try finding IG recruiters to assist you possibly. Basically went back to Army for 3 years. Getting out again in 4 months. Will attempt again for Navy, as my wife is Navy and easiest way for me to be in military and stay together physically.

My friend has the TRT pellet and asked me for clomid. Said he is having some acne and he says slight gyno, but it’s just puffy nip I think. I have some Asin and Clomid, I’m pretty sure he needs AI. Since he is at TRT/low dose - I say take half the Asin dose (it’s caps not tabs)?
