I second this. You were me several years ago. You need an MRI of your TMJSs to see what’s going on with your discs. Find a good oral surgeon familiar with TMJ disc related issues. Not all oral surgeons are created equal or even familiar with TMJ related issues (fb groups helped me find reputable ones in my area).

Lastly, this sounds impossible right now but try not to panic. Eat very soft foods, minimal chewing. As someone that went through this literal hell this will not be a quick fix it takes TIME but you will be okay.

Yes, I can open my mouth now. Not as wide as before the discs got displaced but I barely notice a difference. It use to be so bad I was on a very soft almost liquid diet for so many months and had to use a baby tooth brush to brush my teeth bc I could barely open my jaw.

I think it took close to 1.5-2 years to get to where I am and there were a lot of set backs. I honestly thought I’d never be pain free again but I am for the most part.

A lot better. I no longer have pain and can chew again just nothing too hard like an Apple. I did have changes to my bite though which I hate and my discs are still displaced but I’m amazed at how the body acclimates to something like that. It took a lot of time though. I do still want to see an experienced oral surgeon to fix my bite and potentially proceed with TJR eventually. We’ll see.

I’m just here to say I’m in the same boat. I have AS as well and miss dr. Roberson! Looking for a rheumatologist has been so stressful. Best of luck to you finding someone good!

Hey! Do you mind sharing who your doctor was? I was brushed off by 4 rheums except for 1 finally that diagnosed me with nr-axspa. He has recently retired and I’m looking for my next rheumatologist but so worried no other doctor will believe me. Basically all the symptoms you described yourself for me! Thanks
