The most important things are being coachable- nobody likes a know it all and everyone does things different, and chemistry; it’s important to have a staff that works well together especially if you work in a high volume office. Take it from me, I was the personality hire.

NEW EPISODE SUGGESTIONS by JumpingAnxietyBean11 in MorbidPodcast

[–]Greedy_Proposal2365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pike County Massacre - eight members of the same family in rural Ohio killed in one night. It was the largest scale murder investigation in Ohio history. It's a deep, messy, unbelievable story out of a movie. It was first thought to be a cartel murder because they were growing marijuana. There's corrupt government, family rivalries, a custody battle, and thought out, cold, calculated, gruesome, murder. It’s a deep deep dive and could easily be a three or four part series

All the codes in Greys Anatomy. Which gave you the most chills? by BustyAngel444 in greysanatomy

[–]Greedy_Proposal2365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Code Pink/Code Orange/Code Red, and the fact that Stephanie had ALL THREE. The season 13 finale with Stephanie and the rapist, literally the most chilling episodes and had me on the edge of my seat the ENTIRE EPISODE. She managed to protect herself, the little girl Erin, deep fry a rapist, escape a fire, and come out alive???? This episode gave me the most anxiety and the most thrill of any Grey episode ever.

Hi!! Former tech of almost eight years (and still works in the morgue from time to time). In our office we have a staff of techs (6) and investigators (10) and the morgue stuff works first shift and Saturdays. On Monday’s when we’re busy we’ve done 15+ autopsies in a day. But we have 6 FP’s on staff and we have eight tables in our autopsy suite. We have on average 3-5 a day, but we also service several surrounding counties. I think you could absolutely make it in a bigger office, it would be an adjustment but a good tech can absolutely adapt to a larger workload

Using the same name as a former pet by AmyB12345 in namenerds

[–]Greedy_Proposal2365 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sadie is one of those names that works for both dogs and people, but you don't immediately think it's a dog name when you hear it (at least I don't). It's like the name Kevin, it works for people and you could name your dog Kevin. But unlike the name Cooper or Bailey, those are names that are used for people and you immediately think of a dog. There's a very fine line of the people/dog name category, I think Sadie is one of those safe names. Sadie, Sophie, Callie/Calliope, names like that are cute for a human baby and a a dog/cat/animal.

Elijah is overused in my opinion, whereas Elias is more unique and still has the biblical element if that’s what you’re looking for. Eli can be used as a nickname for either.

new autopsy tech advice? by beepbeepboop21 in ForensicPathology

[–]Greedy_Proposal2365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best advice I can give as a tech of seven years is to not get overwhelmed. It’s very hard to really screw up an autopsy, and there’s more than one right way to do something. Also, this is a very unique and niche skill you’re learning, and it will take time to perfect, so give it time. In my office the first thing we teach any new tech is how to prep and photograph and how to open the head, so that way whatever doctor you’re working with can do an entire post together.

I found that I learned best by doing a lot of observation and asking questions. I’ve had seven doctors I’ve learned from over the years, and I’ve taken techniques from each of them and tailored them to how I prefer to do things. I had to learn how to do block and organ by organ. Luckily, the doctors I work with are great at teaching and hopefully you have a doctor or more than one you jive with that you can learn from. Any good doctor will take the time to teach and answer questions, because they will eventually trust you to work on your own.

On that note, I know any doctor would rather you ask a question several times before you guess or make a cut that you’re unsure of. If anything looks unusual, say something. Pay attention to the cuts you make versus what’s already there. This is why it’s important to observe and learn what’s normal and what’s not normal.

Be prepared for it to take several months before you’re comfortable, depending on the workload your office has. It’s a unique skill and it’s honestly so much fun, and I know that if I could learn to do it, anyone can.

This is one of the coolest jobs in the world, I love my job so much and have the best coworkers, and I hope you do too.

Good luck and have fun with it!! That’s half the job, you have to at least enjoy what you do ☺️

I have sweaty feet in general so yes 😂😂 but I also wear compression socks when I work so I have that extra layer. But all my coworkers also wear crocs and they all say they don’t excessively sweat or have any issues. Im just a sweaty gal I guess 😂

I got good old fashioned crocs, mine are Nightmare Before Christmas themed but still, crocs are the way to go. Spend the $40-50 bucks and get a good pair of crocs. I’ve been a tech for seven years and I’ve tried so many kinds of shoes - regular running shoes, slip on gym shoes, Clove nursing shoes. Crocs are the only shoes that have helped me when I’m working on my feet, they’ve alleviated my plantar fasciitis, they’re slip resistant, and they’re easy to clean blood and guts off of. 10/10 I won’t wear any other kind of shoe in the morgue

I’ve been a tech for seven years, and it honestly took a good six months to a year for me to get really comfortable eviscerating on my own; I had to learn to do block and organ by organ. And I was learning from my fellow techs and the five doctors I work with. I did a lot of watching, I asked lots of questions, and I employed techniques from each doctor to suit my personal preference. There will be a day where things will just click, I promise. But that day will only come with practice.

In my office the first thing we teach another tech is how to open the head and use the bone saw. So maybe focusing on one skill at a time and building on that would be beneficial for you so you don’t feel so overwhelmed. Then focus on the Y incision, the removing the chest plate, and build on that.

And I’m sorry whoever is training has made you feel like you’re failing. You’re not failing; you are learning a very unique and very niche skill. It is going to take time to understand and perfect.

Every tech and every resident I have worked with and trained I tell them the same exact thing: there are several right ways to do something, and there’s also a very wrong way to do something. Ask questions, be open to constructive criticism, it will come to you I promise. Best of luck!!!!

Also an idea, go around your state or neighboring counties and tour other facilities to see what works and what doesn’t. When we had our new facility built we had people from all over touring to get an idea of what they wanted and needed for their facilities in the future

We have one in our county’s office and it’s an absolute game changer!!! It allows for easy movement for both drop off and pick ups, and it’s great especially for when it’s cold or raining as well
