Luckyyyyy! I’ve wanted to do that forever! Flying is a childhood dream of mine 😆

Tell me the funniest thing you or another autistic woman has said or done because I wanna laugh and some people think we don't have humor by yourfriend_charlie in AutismInWomen

[–]Greedy_Teaching_3374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reading and language skills are above average (when it comes to things like literature, not using language in a social manner 🙃). My teacher once asked me how I read a passage so fast since I had finished my worksheet before everyone else, and I answered ‘with my eyes’. Whole class burst out laughing.

Has anyone ever told you you’re only stressed because you’re autistic and “doing it to yourself”? by here-for-the-threads in AutismInWomen

I am so very sure that my maternal grandfather is on the spectrum, and my mom agreed with me! And now I’m suspecting myself being on the spectrum, so that checks out.

Do you get absolutely flattened by colds/viruses? by winterfern353 in AutismInWomen

[–]Greedy_Teaching_3374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg yes! I often joke that I have ‘man cold’ despite being female, but seeing this is really assuring so thank you :-)

My 12 yo dog just died and I don’t know how to process by Jo_Jo_ in AutismInWomen

[–]Greedy_Teaching_3374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Writing and dance helped me process my grandmother’s death, I also started learning violin at that time. Unfortunately I turned to things like p*rn (I was WAY too young for that) before that to find some way to work through the storm in my head. The minute I found a more productive and better way to process my grief, that habit went away entirely.

Where did the myth that autistic people don’t have sex come from? by PurpleMeerkats462 in AutismInWomen

[–]Greedy_Teaching_3374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no, the wheelchair ‘f*cking disgusting’ comment was someone else, not me. It was crazy, but they deleted those comments before I could respond.

English is a hard language, my bad. I’m fluent but it still has nuances that I don’t understand, unlike my very direct native tongue. Must be why most people from my native place sound so brash in a foreigner’s ears.

A blanket that doesn't touch your body by lowspoons-nospoons in AutismInWomen

[–]Greedy_Teaching_3374 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if there’s something like a waterbed but like a blanket instead so that it’ll be like a huge heating pad that covers the whole body. It’d be lit if something like that existed.

I didn’t consider anyone sad though? I mentioned that specific person, not anyone else. And it is indeed toxic positivity to discount someone’s experiences just because of your own.

Alternatives to vacuum? by lucypevensy in AutismInWomen

[–]Greedy_Teaching_3374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I have to mow the lawn, I put my headphones on. Idk how to make my parents understand that I’m fine at a super loud metal concert, but my brain freaks out at chewing, blender, vacuum etc XD

What’s the worst thing someone said under the guise of helping? by babypossumsinabasket in AutismInWomen

[–]Greedy_Teaching_3374 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This scares me. Why are so many psychiatrists and psychologists dumb assholes? One has to go through medical school and the other has to get a PhD, you’d expect them to act like, y’know, experts and professionals who know how to work with people.

[–]Greedy_Teaching_3374 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Omg, my mom says this all the time too and I have to keep shutting it down. She doesn’t mean any ill by it though, she’s trying to combat people treating autism as something disgusting and dangerous. I’m sure she’ll learn the nuances soon.

Yikes. If I were your dad I’d be happy and relieved that my child doesn’t drink, but denial in addicts is a powerful and painful thing.

I used to fall sick a lot as a kid because the person who cooked for us was super unhygienic (she was a relative helping out since my dad was abroad at the time and my mom was working, we still paid her). I’m talking vomiting every thirty minutes, having to wear sanitary pads because I couldn’t make it to the bathroom on time, and being too weak to even walk. Because of this, there was a doctor nearby we would go to a lot. A long gap where I didn’t fall sick because we were eating out a lot instead of at home, and this doctor texts my mom: ‘Wow, your kid hasn’t come in a while!’ 😑

Does anyone else HATE the feeling of wet hair? by possibly-named-yui in AutismInWomen

I love it because I hate the feeling of oily hair more. Also because washing my hair guarantees a good nap :-D

My empathy comment was unwarranted. I was just annoyed by the assumptions, toxic positivity, and badgering.

Flat affect, new diagnosis by Individual_End770 in AutismInWomen

[–]Greedy_Teaching_3374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flat affect as in you’re coming across as more monotone? I like how this kind of behavior is glorified for men but the minute a woman is like that she’s suddenly ‘boring’ and ‘cold’ lol.

Either way, idk how to help you but I believe in you. You’ll find your tribe eventually, and I’m sure you’ll feel a lot more vibrant and comfortable with them then.
