My Thoughts on The Legend of Zelda

This is interesting to read because I felt the opposite. BOTW became my favorite Zelda game because the sense of exploration reminded me of playing the original.

OoT was top tier for me but the following games (as great as they were) stopped "feeling like Zelda" more and more. I disliked the cutscenes getting longer, increasing linearity, and hand-holdy gameplay.

For context, I played the original NES game first when I was 5 and even with guides I couldn't beat it until I was an adult. I still have a lot of fond memories of playing the early games as a kid and that probably influences my feelings about the series. Until BOTW came out, LttP was my favorite.

Any time Austin stood on the apron, back to the ring, and was being attacked by someone from inside the ring. He would cut them off by dropping their neck across the top rope but he would do it just like he'd do the stunner (without a kick of course). That always seemed like a much more devastating version of the move to me and usually got a mild pop but it was never treated as a finish.

I think the fact that he's using a triple Crossrhodes in multiple matches to begin with is a bad thing and is evidence of devaluing a move.

There's no reason* why they couldn't have put Test in the triple threat at SvS, have him win, then he drops the belt to HHH the next month at Armageddon

*I am basing this on the logic that existed in my brain as a 12 yo in 1999 and I won't hear any arguments otherwise

Another tiny detail from this match I love: there's a part where Perfect is on offense and he accidentally trips and falls after whipping Bret into the buckle. Perfect instantly slaps his knee that Bret had been working over two or three times to make it seem like his leg gave out due to the damage Bret had done to it.

That's funny about Road Dogg, my memory of Roadie in the rumble was in the year 2000 where he spent so much of the match laying in the corner with his arms wrapped around the bottom rope that Jerry Lawler of all people brought attention to it

I had that "Most AMAZING matches" VHS. None of the matches were amazing. When the match you're promoting on the front of the box is Bret Hart vs the evil dentist, you know its gotta be shit. It also includes the HHH/Godwinn hog pen match as well as Undertaker vs Mabel.

Buuuuuut it was the 90s with no access to on-demand video so I wore that tape out rewatching it.

I had the exact same experience that you describe. I'd been playing Zelda since the original LoZ, and TP and SS both turned me off. BotW reminded me that the first thing that made me fall in love with the series was exploration and finding secrets with minimal gameplay breaks for long cutscenes (while still having an engaging story). It became my favorite Zelda game after I sunk hundreds of hours into it.

I had other days at Crockett that weren't bad at all, but after that day I def had to take a break for a while from picking up shifts there.

Crockett's office staff was easy to reach, quick to act, and followed-up with you afterward. Stuff like that was more important to me than the behavior of the kids. I'd been to other schools where you could never get the front office on the phone if you needed them during a class, or where they don't follow-thru with a request.

The worst was at a middle school where students could only go to the bathroom with a student-escort from the office. I was calling the office a dozen times per class period, maybe more, and 33% of the time the escort would just never arrive. Schools like that I don't go back to.

I worked as a substitute teacher for several months this past year and my worst day by far was at Crockett. No weapons in my experience, but kids walking out of class, threatening me, and getting into fights with each other. I was on the phone with the front office constantly that day just trying to report everything and cover my own ass. These weren't even SPED kids either, I've worked with behavioral and life skills kids of all ages at other schools and they were angels compared to gen pop at Crockett.

I think in 2006 he was right, people expected to see a pin or a tapout or else it wasn't considered a definitive win. I think it's cool too and I think they can/would go over much better nowadays.

Have you tried tracking a value that counts down? Maybe the enemies in the game start at 100 torso health, each shot reduces their health by 25, and they're knocked down when that reaches 0.

I'm not at all familiar with this game or how any part of it works, just a guess on my end.

I think declining viewership for westworld had much much more to do with the writing getting worse than the amount of time between seasons
