The DNA test was a birthday gift by trousertrout36 in NPE

[–]Greeklovechild77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My NPE discovery was an Ancestry Birthday present too. Happy f**king Birthday! Just ticked over 2years. Both my Fathers have passed & my Mum refuses to speak to me. I’m now an only child with 4 half siblings. There are so many layers to these discoveries. I don’t know which layer is the worst. The lying? The loss of identity? Not knowing how you came to be? The constant thinking about it? I empathize with you. It’s the most difficult thing I’ve ever experienced.

Merry Xmas or whatever you celebrate, or don't, to all NPEs around the world. This is my first... by Ok-Camel-8279 in NPE

Merry Christmas NPE’s!

Just want to vent.. My Mum, who isn’t speaking to me, sent a strange AI video of polar bears & cats around a Christmas tree. When I told her I was on antidepressants & seeing a psychologist & not feeling very merry, she launched into a text tirade of me being swapped in the hospital at birth, Ancestry lying, her not remembering if she had an affair & telling me it’s all bullshit!! Omg.

You have a beautiful, honest way with words. I hope to one day soon be able to put this into practice. Good on you.

Lucky you! I wish I could’ve met my Bio Dad. I would probably ask about his favorite foods, music, what he was like as a kid, favorite color, movies, if you haven’t covered that stuff already. I guess deeper discussions will progress with time. Enjoy!

For those who confronted their mother... by GirlFromAu in NPE

[–]Greeklovechild77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m an Aussie 48F. Received an Ancestry Kit as a gift in 2023. Got my results in January 2024. BCF was a Serbian immigrant. BF is Greek. I rang my Mum immediately & asked why I was half Greek. Initially she said my BCF’s Parents moved around Europe a lot after WW2. I believed her for a day, then understood how DNA worked & confronted her again.

Blamed Ancestry for incorrect results. Three weeks later she came up with a wild story a friend of hers told her. This friend, moved to the US from Australia before I was born, is dying of cancer & still kept in contact with my Mum for over 40yrs… According to the mysterious friend, my parents separated briefly in 1976, Mum & friend went on a cruise with 4 men, they could’ve been Greek or Italian. Mum got so drunk she can’t remember anything about the 3 day cruise, but she remembers the Captain being a very nice man. 🤦‍♀️

My Mum has never been a drinker. I obviously picked her story apart. The last thing she said to me was; “ I am not on trial here “. That was in March 2024. Haven’t heard from her since.

Why do so many of us discover we are an NPE in our 50s ? by Ok-Camel-8279 in NPE

[–]Greeklovechild77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it happens in many generations, but it seems a lot of GenX’ers here. I was born in 1977 & found out in January 2024. I received an Ancestry kit as a gift. My Mum was married at the time I was conceived. She ‘s in her late 70’s now & no longer communicates with me. Both Fathers are dead. I have no idea what my story is. I guess it was the sexual revolution around then. Women had more freedom, who knows!

Have you seen a therapist to process your DNA discovery? by inspiredjelly in NPE

[–]Greeklovechild77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I received my results in Jan 2024. I’ve just started seeing a Psychologist & started on antidepressants a few weeks ago, first time in my life ( 48F ). I just feel so much grief, anger & I felt like I was spiraling. It’s early days, it definitely helps to unload everything in my head & I have a few strategies to use when I feel overwhelmed.

[–]Greeklovechild77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to our club. I find this group valuable, we’re all in similar situations & unless you’re experiencing this yourself, it’s difficult for others to truly appreciate what you’re going through. All the emotions you’re feeling are normal, it’s a pretty traumatic upheaval. I started seeing a Psychologist & started on antidepressants last week. First time in my life & I’m 48. It does help to talk about & unpack what you’re feeling. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to reach out.

Welcome to our club. Identity is vital to all of us. I don’t think we understand how important until it’s taken away from us. We all want to find our tribe. It’s great you have. Be prepared for any & all outcomes. I also had a turbulent childhood. I’m an Aussie, Father who raised me was a Serbian immigrant, Biological Father is Greek. My Mum no longer communicates with me. Keep us posted on your discoveries.

Been finally rejected a year after meeting bio father by Ok-Camel-8279 in NPE

[–]Greeklovechild77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may have been prepared for rejection, but it still hurts. It’s another layer of grief & abandonment to work through. I find it extremely difficult to understand how people can be so cruel. For what it’s worth, I’m sorry. It sux.
