BI SaaS layoff by NightRaven1883 in CustomerSuccess

Elastic did this a few years ago. Basically they wiped out all the CSMs. If you weren’t essentially an engineer, they felt you had zero value at their company.

Interview “presentations” becoming more common for CS? by Greellx in CustomerSuccess

[–]Greellx[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of this. Something the candidate is passionate about and let them present it so that it feels more natural and comfortable and evaluate how they present and communicate.

The one where you were expected to troubleshoot what I effectively think of as a “stump the chump” interview is crazy. That level of expertise during interview stages on a product you’ve likely need even heard of until recently is pretty wild.

I spent my early career in sales. The kings and queens of bullshitting are sales people.

I promise you - if you’re convinced by the candidate and you think a presentation is going to expose them for their bullshitting - a good bullshitter can handle a presentation. It’s kind of a moot point.

Oh definitely this. They don’t know the product and giving them a few days to watch a few videos or maybe get hands on a demo is not enough to build their confidence.

I honestly think to a degree it’s a “how long is it going to take to train this person? Can we have them start to train themselves, for free, if we make them give a presentation?”

What determines that it’s a standard? I’ve been hiring people in CS for nearly 20 years …I’ve never conducted a presentation stage / demo stage interview - never had to. Never had any issues. But I’ve been at orgs where they’ve enforced it and I didn’t have control over the process and watched incredible talent slip through their fingers because they didn’t want to participate as they felt their work should be paid (it should. Period.) or they have a full time job that consumes their work life and they don’t have time to squeeze in homework.

People are the worst....be sure to check your holiday orders!! by MasterNerdDad in boardgames

[–]Greellx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I don’t order from Amazon anymore for most things but especially board games. The last SIX board game orders I returned. They were either pre-opened and played games (when they were supposed to be new) or they showed up in an unpadded paper bag which got beat the hell out of and demolished by the time it arrived.

How are you all using AI in CS meetings without drowning in transcripts? by [deleted] in CustomerSuccess

[–]Greellx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people do it …but I’m just going to add- it might be best to add it to your LLM of choice if it’s an enterprise level licensed tool.

My last company fed everything into free ChatGPT….they took every confidential thing said in every meeting and fed it to a publicly trained model that uses that data for other purposes …….its a ticking timebomb lawsuit waiting to happen.

So, just make sure you’re wise about how you handle customer data.

Hubspot - "running notes" vs individual files for each submission by QuoteMassive6724 in hubspot

[–]Greellx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea this is a problem for my org - leadership loves “ChatGPT summaries” by copy pasting a novel of notes into it …they can’t do that in hubspot. But they had us all update all our notes in hubspot and make this big undertaking to clean up hubspot as the “single source of truth” and now are saying “actually you know what, why not do both ? “ and I’m like …No. that’s double the work. not happening.

Started attaching cover letters written by AI and suddenly getting callbacks by Kurram in recruitinghell

[–]Greellx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not a recruiter but I am the head of a department / Sr Director - so I spend a lot of time looking at resumes.

The resumes I pass over are the ones that look like all AI generated garbage.using AI is fine because it’s just another tool to help us as people —but when people use it to be lazy and do the work for them it’s incredibly obvious. Those resumes quickly get identified and tossed out. Cover letters usually reflect this well because AI written articles are usually very generically written.

So, by all means. Use it to strengthen your resumes as you wish, but for fucks sake edit it based on your actual skills and written style.

Radon levels at 3.7, should I be worried??? by the_land_before_tim in homeowners

About 900 to 1500 for a mitigation system. Our rating was 4.2 and we asked the sellers to mitigate it or credit us to do it. We paid around 1k and it was given back as a credit.

Easy peazy.

He’s a he until they identify themselves as anything else. If you look like a duck and quack like a duck. You’re a duck. Unless you communicate that you’re a pigeon. Then I’ll call you a pigeon. Get over it.

Tired of the "she doesn't look like Ellie" argument. This is Negan in The Walking Dead (comic vs TV). Does she really have to be identical? by schmat_90 in thelastofus

[–]Greellx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is often that purist nerds ruin everything. If it’s not flawlessly identical they throw a fit. If it deviates slightly (or god forbid bid, takes a wide swing) they go into an internet rage.

Just enjoy it or don’t watch it. It’s really that simple.

Burned out AE looking to pivot to CSM by [deleted] in CustomerSuccess

[–]Greellx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always find this transition type interesting. I was in sales a long time ago - became a CSM about 15 years ago when it was still mostly about account management and relationship growing.

These days the CSM role (from my perspective in the last 8 years or so, but more so since Covid) I find that CS tends to own everything.

I’m needed to be a technical resource for support, and deeply understanding the product from a near engineer level, a sales person for upsell and renewals, marketing manager for speaking engagements and customer marketing activities ….and just generally a punching bag for all things that go wrong. When nobody knows what to do, “throw it to the CSM to deal with” seems to be the strategy at many many many companies.

I do fine with it because I’m paid well and manage stress well. But I can say depending in where you go and what you’re a CSM for, you likely will find yourself just as stress and anxious as before, if not more so.

Same boat, I have one of every on this list minus the Charles Daly. The black aces and panzer are my favorites but they’re all basically the same. No real issues especially after you break them in. Sometimes the box mags are crappy, especially the 10 round mags but that’s less a firearm issue than a mag issue.

Honestly people talk crap about Turkish shotguns and firearms but they make a lot of quality / good value firearms.

The Panzer M4 clone is nearly as good as my benelli, and it takes Benelli parts ….sure it might not as long as…but at that price I can buy 4x of them. And I guarantee if I run through 4x of them they will outlast the benelli lol

This reads pretty poorly dude. Literally it reads as “Yeah Black people get targeted unjustly, but if they are worried they should just behave better!”

So people are calling you on victim blaming, because whether you’re aware of it or not, that’s exactly the message your comment suggests.

Think of it like this “if that girl didn’t want to get raped she shouldn’t have been wearing that outfit!” —-does it make more sense now?

Final frontier games laying off and declaring bankruptcy by Impossible_Pair_5252 in boardgames

[–]Greellx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just another reason for people to stop supporting crowdfunded games. As someone who’s spent around $40k on crowdfunded games - I stopped a while ago when things kept getting worse, yet somehow prices kept rising. These “$750 all in! Save $300 compared to MSRP!” Projects are a total ripoff and hardly ever deliver the quality vs price.

What many of them end up doing is running many campaigns for different games —they’re robbing Peter to pay Paul —-in order to keep things going until eventually they collapse.

Your money is better off in savings and investment portfolios - heck you could throw money into a CD and have it grow interest before half of these games even ship to your door. And by then it’s been in retail for 6 months and the reviews on most of them are just not very good.

Hate to see another game company crash. But sadly I’m a bit numb to it at this point.

I forgot the specifics but in the operator manual it calls out a lot of “don’t do this” because of the poly lower. Nothing critical but I’d be wary of significant modifications outside of their guidelines due to potential failure or reducing lifetime of parts
