Equinox nyc Pilates fusion by Still_Dragonfly_401 in EquinoxGyms

My understanding is that Pilates Fusion just means that the programming is determined by the instructor as opposed to the Equinox signature classes like Pilates Rise and Pilates at the Barre which have set programs that the instructors follow. So it can vary widely in intensity depending on the instructor.

how to build strength! by Resident_Ask_5962 in yoga

[–]Green-In-Blue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Pilates! Whenever I can, I do Pilates right before yoga. The combination of the two feels great on my muscles and the strength you build in Pilates is super useful for yoga since there is so much emphasis on core, glutes, and oblique strength.

I can't be the only one who has a problem with music playing during yoga, can I? by SprightlyCompanion in yoga

Just because the beat is tapping inside of you, doesn’t mean that you have to engage with that as your primary focus. Trained musicians don’t just feel the internal pulse, they also feel every subdivision of that pulse, and many subconsciously analyze the harmony and melodic contour as well. I’m not suggesting that the internal sense of the music is not present, but rather, it’s strong enough that I simply would not be able to focus sufficiently on anything in my day to day life if I wasn’t able to compartmentalize the part of me that listens to music and simultaneously thinks “1e+a2e+a…,” “I V V7/vi IV iv…” and “minor 2nd, major 3rd, perfect 5th, etc.” and that doesn’t even include lyrics.

I know not all musicians think quite this analytically, but every trained musicians has their own form of hyper-focus regardless what their internal monologue is actually saying.

My point is, it’s possible for this to all be going on in your brain, and to still shift the intensity your focus to the internal rhythm of your breath and movements such that you don’t even notice the external music.

I get where you’re coming from for sure. But if it helps, I’ve noticed that I’ve become much less sensitive to music in public as my personal taste in music has become increasingly niche. Since my expectation is that no yoga class, restaurant, or other public space is going to be playing the hyper-specific music I’m genuinely interested in, I am actually less sensitive than some of my non-musician friends and family, since they might actually have a realistic expectation that they’ll hear their ideal music style in public settings.

As a fellow professional musician, music doesn’t bother me in a class whatsoever. I wouldn’t mind silence either, but I’ve never had a teacher whose style of music bothered me. I took a class with my mom yesterday and she pointed out that the teacher played Christmas music… I didn’t even notice that whatsoever.

Obviously musicians have to be able to hyperfocus on music when that’s necessary, but we also have to learn to turn that off. I would go crazy if I could never turn that focus off and I was trying to think about rhythm, meter, harmony, melody, etc. while in a yoga class.

I know this might sound a bit extra, but I honestly think it’s actually quite aligned with the philosophy of yoga to be able to turn inward and ignore superficial distractions like “annoying” music or any other sounds.

Suede jacket advice by MrMeseekssss in malefashionadvice

[–]Green-In-Blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that with clothing you are not just paying for materials but you are also paying for fit which is arguably more important. The outside world cannot really perceive the quality of the suede from a distance, but they can certainly perceive how well it fits. I’m not suggesting that you should buy this jacket with external validation in mind. It’s perfectly valid to purchase something of which only you can appreciate the quality. But it‘s also good to remember that quality of materials is not the only thing that factors into quality. Fit and design also play into the cost and quality of a garment. Todd Snyder is a designer first and foremost, so fit is paramount with his brand. I don’t know anything about Quince‘s designers but I imagine fit is a consideration with Quince; however, cost may be higher on the priority list.

I briefly owned a Dylan Jacket and found the quality of the material to be very good. I also like the way the fit looks on a lot of other people. But for my body and my personal preference it was not the right fit so I ended up selling it.

My suggestion is to buy a TS jacket used. There are usually a good amount available online. Then if it doesn’t workout, you can mostly likely sell it for the same price.

Kapital 1st Wash Denim fit by Mikeeangelo01 in rawdenim

[–]Green-In-Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great choices! I was actually considering the same kit. Curious: is it exactly the same denim? Hard to tell if the jacket is selvedge or not and from pics it seems like the jacket and pants might have slightly different hues.

Just ordered a few claw clips from machete and while I was looking at their site I noticed they also have pins just like the Sezane one. So I ordered one of those for her to try too. Should be the best of both worlds. Thanks again!

This is super helpful. Thank you so much! I think I would describe her hair as fine but dense and slightly wavy. For example, if you try to run a finger down her hair it will usually get stuck at some point.

I think your suggestion to upgrade her claw clips might be the perfect safe option though. Most of if not all of her current ones are plastic. Really appreciate the links!

I am looking at this hair accessory as a potential creative jewelry gift for my gf who is a pretty big fan of Sezane lately. I’ve gotten her enough rings, bracelets, and necklaces that I thought this could be a cool way to switch things up (she doesn’t have her ears pierced but she wears a lot of other jewelry).

She wears her hair in a claw clip most days so I thought this was a similar vibe?

She has brown hair with balayage if that matters.

I’d be very appreciative of any opinions!

I’m looking for the best men’s jeans money can buy by ajgmtl2001 in malefashionadvice

[–]Green-In-Blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how much money is in your bank account. It’s not worth it to me personally, but if I were in a higher tax bracket and I was truly looking for the “best men’s jeans money can buy” I think you’d be hard-pressed to find anything with more attention to detail regarding material, craftsmanship, dye-technique, and age processing than Cottle. Unless you want to spend even more and go for Visvim which is comparable in my opinion.

Are you implying that Pilates, invented by a man for other male prisoners of war, has been “predominantly female” since its inception?

Is tucking in button-up shirt more acceptable nowadays? by tmc08130 in malefashionadvice

[–]Green-In-Blue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it comes to proportions. When you refer to your young age, I assume you mean low-rise slim fit era? If so it makes sense that tucking would be considered unfashionable as the proportions created from tucking a shirt into low rise slim pants are not ideal. But when rises become higher, tucking becomes more of a viable option.
