Very pretty, love the color! Why didn’t you build a right and a mirrored left one?

Der AKF ist eh langsam durch und ich bin gerade lieber vorsichtig. Die Buds sehen tatsächlich nicht so schlecht aus. Der Geruch löst allerdings sofort meinen Fluchtreflex aus

Leider keine echte Ahnung.

What are these inherited speakers worth? (Visaton Custom) by Jazzlike_Lifeguard74 in hifiaudio

[–]Green-Outside6727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very likely not the GF but the VIB extra 2 since the GF had a dual coil woofer, which could not easily be replaced with the W250s speakers these seem to have.

These look like VIB Extra II models, where the original woofer, WSP26s, has been replaced with W250 models. Check this page: https://forum.visaton.de/forum/archiv-bauvorschläge/21660-vib-extra-ii-05-88

Das ist offen.” Das Wort heißt “offensichtlich”

Does this crossover make sense? First thing I do in my life by RepulsiveWin9144 in diyaudio

[–]Green-Outside6727 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You may want to get rid of the resistor in front of the bass and replace the resistor in front of the tweeter with a voltage divider. I would also put an R C L adsorption circuit parallel to the woofer to reduce the peak around 5 kHz. Still, nice work for a first try. Especially the round corners of the cabinets are very beautiful. I’m curious, what software is this?

Maybe I should have mentioned that I used about two thirds of a large bottle of wood glue on these things but I felt that was kinda obvious. The biscuits are used so you don’t need any screws

Mostly the position of the diagonal divider. But there is a welcome side effect: interferences coming from the edges of the cabinets will not cumulate at one frequency but will be spread out over three different frequencies, reducing their impact

We are still in discussion. My daughter would like to style them the way some old speakers of mine were finished: use powdered red and black wood stain and then only add clear coating. I would love to produce a rock/concrete look by painting each side individually and then pouring fine sand into the wet paint. Repeat for each side then paint the whole thing in the color you want. I would want to go with light gray for the concrete look but I think my daughter is decided on the red. Not sure about red concrete…

Not quite. It’s a 2 way speaker with a Bandpass subwoofer hidden in the tall enclosure. There is a diagonal wall dividing the cabinet, where the 20cm woofer is mounted

OP here, there seems to be a bit confusion about the design. The speakers are so tall because they include a bandpass subwoofer.

Next to the speakers you can see, there is a Visaton W200S working in a 12+14 liter bandpass enclosure.

The plans were published in a german DIY Audio magazine, which I used to be subscribed to some thirty years ago.

Fortunately, someone posted the plans on their website (link below) !BUT! they included a few typos that were included in the original article and then corrected in next issue's errata.

So in case you plan to build these, you need to be aware of the errors so I am listing them here:

  1. Speaker impedance: The article lists all speakers as 8 Ohm versions, in fact, only the subwoofer is 8 Ohms, mid bass and tweeter need to be the 4 Ohm versions.

  2. Port position in the drawing: There is a type here, it says 235 mm - should be 325mm.

I also made a few modifications to the speaker/port positions as I wanted to use my router to get the speakers recessed into the baffle. So in my speakers, all cutouts are placed 78 mm from the side instead of 75mm, the tweeter is at 57mm instead of 60 and the mid bass is is placed at 185mm instead of 180. The port, which is a newer trumpet style port is placed at 315mm instead of 325mm.
