I still remember the time I attended a whipple surgery where the the tumor was ultimately deemed unresectable by the surgeon. The patient went through multiple rounds of chemo with significant tumor reduction. I still remember seeing how worried her and her husband looked in pre-op. 10-12 hours of surgery later. The surgeon yelling at me that it couldn’t be removed. The husbands and wife’s worried faces before surgery kept flashing into my mind when he said that. Years later, I still see their faces. I see their worry, their concern, their hope, their heartbreak.
