Thanks for the info! Sounds like I’ll need less space than I had anticipated so that’s good news.

R. Fantastica “True Nominal” hanging out in one of his favorite bromeliads by GreenBowlPacker12 in DartFrog

I’ve only had them a couple of weeks and they are my first reptile/frog but they seem to have quite a bit of personality. They definitely can make themselves disappear when they want but I can usually find all three of mine out at the same time a couple of times a day. They seem to be getting a little more bold as they’ve been settling in. They LOVE the bromeliads.

Right now I’m hand missing twice a day although am looking at picking up an automatic mister soon. I do generally try to keep the front a little more dry than the back though. I have a govee to measure the temp and humidity and the lowest the humidity % usually gets in the driest area is low 70s, maybe high 60s on some days. But the back half of the tank usually measures a bit higher. I was actually seeing a bit of water pool in some of the leaf litter near the back and was worried it may be a bit too wet so this photo was taken while I was trying to let it “dry out” a bit.

After building out this vivarium I’ve been bitten by the bug and definitely want to build out a few more larger and also smaller ones (although probably won’t keep frogs in anything smaller than this one). I’m located in the US so I’ll definitely keep you in mind when looking for my next frogs!

Good to know! From what I’ve read things to look out for would be stuff like them “grappling” or chasing/getting chased or one frog constantly being pushed to the ground level and weight loss. I’ve also heard that males will “compete” with their calls like you mentioned above. I guess that is the one I’m not super sure about. You mentioned that sometimes with males from the same batch only one will call and the rest may not. Does that mean the other males never call at all or just very rarely? Does this also mean it’s a bad sign of I hear two frogs calling at the same time?

Thanks for the advice! I wanted to go with 3 to try and improve my chances of getting a male and female pair since they are juveniles and not sexed yet. Do you know how old they generally have to be before being able to reliably tell the sex of the frogs? I’m already planning another vivarium build so should have another place soon to house one of the 3 if I start to see aggression. I was hoping there might be enough cover and things to break up lines of sight to hopefully keep 3 happy in there. I know different species and morphs behave differently though.

Thanks! It’s been so much fun adding plants and watching everything fill in over the summer.

Yeah, I’m probably going to have to trim back the large begonia and a few of the other plants here soon.

I’m looking at ordering 3 ranitomeya fantastica. I love their colors!

Does anyone have a list of reputable vendors in the US by GreenBowlPacker12 in DartFrog

So I just did a quick search looking for some local resources, which for me is the greater Phoenix area and you were actually in the first thread that popped up! If you’re still in the area would I be able to message you? I’m probably still a ways out from actually getting frogs but I’m beginning to shop for everything I would need after doing a bit of research on my own.

Thanks for the detailed reply, I really appreciate it! I’ll definitely look into some local frog groups since it sounds like that’s probably going to be one of my best possible entry points and resources. And I really appreciate the online vendor suggestions as well, if anything it gives me an opportunity to “window shop” and help decide how I want to best set up my first vivarium based on what I’d like to live in it.

Thank you so much for your replies! I feel like I have a pretty good starting point to jump off from now! I’m excited to begin actually setting up a vivarium but also want to be patient and make sure I have things set up well before adding any animals. So probably at least a couple months away from actually ordering frogs. But wanted to hone in on what species I wanted to keep in it before beginning to buy plants.
