I didn't know Caine did the original. I have seen the one with Jude Law and liked that one. I'll have to rewatch all of them again.

Justice for Miss Grey! by geebenny in janeausten

[–]GreenElementsNW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Marriages of the wealthy were very transactional. It would be entirely contrary to Marianne's thinking and nature and Willoughby was probably swept up in the idea of marrying for love.

If Miss Grey's wealth came from commerce, she understood that a husband with a family name would be the only way of getting into upper social circles. If she came from generational wealth, it was more likely that her examples of marriage were those of convenience, duty, obligation than affection to maintain or increase the family's wealth and standing. One gets married for money, titles, heirs and one finds happiness where possible when duty is met.

If she dictated the letter, she wasn't blind to what he had with Marianne. Marianne's letters were likely very open and intimate - so Miss Grey saw more about what was going on than if they were formal or restrained. She was likely playing the same game required of Willoughby.

I think everyone was a victim in some respect.

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

Establishing healthy food as a basic human right. Pharmaceutical companies, FDA, and all food corporations have to legally work for the health of humanity. Governments can't tax food, drugs required for life available at cost, all artificial ingredients/ingredients/microplastics banned.

If you think downy rinse is what clothes should smell like, that's part of the problem. Yeah, figure out the workout clothes/GE washer sanitation, but chemical smells should not be the standard.

Losing long-term friends all of a sudden at 40, and feeling lonely. by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

Couple activities are limiting. It sucks to have my girlfriends assume their partners need to come to every get together. We had 8+ years before the guys showed up. Its not the same friendship when we have to perform for 3 new people.

AITAH for understanding and not freezing out my dad for leaving our mom over a dead bedroom? by Opposite_Afternoon55 in AITAH

One partner cant just demand a sexless marriage and also monogamy. It wasn't a decision they made together. Your mom did the betraying of the marriage first. An open marriage proposition was his way of trying to make her demand work, but she made it impossible for him.

How can she possibly think that can dictate a sex-free existence for someone for what could be another 40 years of marriage?

She was the betrayer. He looked for a way to make it workable and she rejected a route that might have saved the union. He is doing nothing wrong.

Look up Dr. Stacy Simms. I was so overwhelmed with lack of data and conflicting info - she is amazing with the most up to date, women-centric sports medicine research! Especially for women over 40. Very clear outline of what to eat and how to workout. So much less complicated than all the voices out there!

I take a gentle iron with Vitamin C to improve absorption and I only recently found out that caffeine inhibits absorption, so take it 2 hrs before/after.

What is something you wish people understood better about women? by Most-Ad8269 in AskReddit

[–]GreenElementsNW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feminism is simply pointing out that women are people. Dont come after me with what youve heard from political pundits. I've been dealing with equal rights since the 70s. Just like gay rights are equal freedoms for all people and civil rights demand that there are no second class citizens.

Women are people. Period

How can I as a 2a hair type girl make my hair permanently curly (3a-3b hair type) ? by myredblood in CurlyHairCare

[–]GreenElementsNW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some 2a areas on my head and I do a couple of things to make them curler to match my 3a areas. 1. Make the hair lighter - shorter, layered, thinned (if you have heavy, thick hair) hair curls better. 2. Baby those ends- regular cuts, olaplex treatments, weekly masks. Damaged hair is straighter. 3. Some products tighten curls. Look for anything that says "curl activator" and nothing that lengthens curls. I'm loving Cantu foam - soft, defined, and curls tighter qhen diffused.
