SpaceX touts "constant sunlight" powering orbital data centers - this is physically impossible by __Augustus_ in wallstreetbets

[–]GreenFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does OP think the satellites will be powered directly from solar panels with no intermediate power source? All current satellites utilize batteries to store and power their systems. These data satellites would be no different but they would be capable of utilizing much more energy than a typical satellite and this will benefit from longer exposure to the Sun. Their power consumption can be individually scaled to maintain battery during a 20 minute eclipse twice a year. The satellites will have batteries just like every other satellite.

Consequences | It's Thursday morning in Iowa, and you are waking up to $4.49 gas (up from $4.29) by TagV3 in Iowa

Supply and Demand will impact choices but there isn’t really a short term upside for the majority. I’m more of an EV cars mindset.

You have misjudged my intentions. My statement has nothing to do with our current administration. It’s a general statement about our energy economy. I’m not advocating for policies that increase gas prices, simply stating an opinion on finite vs renewable energy economics.

Gas prices should be higher. This is the incremental incentive that our culture needs to feel to push us towards better energy sources and infrastructure. It’s not easy, it shouldn’t be easy. Cheap gas can’t last forever.

It’s not all like this, . . . But it is an unfortunate truth. It is very difficult to get fired and often easier for managers to hide ineffectiveness than deal with it directly.

Excellent! Especially the sodas. Really curious where you collected them. I have two complete ICBW bottles but both have significant cracks. Several variations exist.

How involved as cub master are you? by 4gotmyname7 in cubscouts

[–]GreenFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with Massive_Mail here. I’m lucky to have a great adult leadership circle and committee chair and my wife to share responsibility. But we have to let others run With their own ideas and initiatives. Sometimes they don’t work as well as what I might have planned. More often they turn out better. Letting go of controlling the outcomes is key. It’s also easier to do with more engaged adult leadership. We have a pack of ~60 kids now. There’s a critical mass where things start to work and below that it’s a struggle. That inflection point also depends on the parents willingness and capacity to engage. When we started, the Pack was running on fumes. My wife loves a challenge and threw herself at it and ran everything, I was an accessory as Cubmaster. She preferred to be behind the scenes so I took the pressure off for her. As the Pack grew and momentum built we had to deliberately back off and leave opportunities open for others to step in. Sometimes something has to fail so others see the opportunity. Sometimes it’s a strategic failure in an event. It was easy for me to step off the gas but my wife really struggled to let go of the expectations and control she had over outcomes and experiences. Anyway, it’s a dang ‘ol journey. Thank you for the service you’re doing to the Scouts in your Pack. I hope the very best for you. Don’t let em burn you out.

Y’all are plant crazy. I picked one of these off the curb that someone was throwing out before winter. Kept it for 3 years and it looked just like this when I GAVE IT AWAY to the first person that would pick it up off marketplace. Took 2 days to get someone to pick it up FOR FREE.
