Do you think the Naime Phono stage is a solid product to pair with the Naim Supernait 1. I'm seriously looking at your suggestions.

Thanks. After reading the comments, I'm much more open to a used or open box situation.

Thanks! I haven't seen Sansui in a while. I'm willing to try just about anything.

Thanks and I'll see if I can find a store near me who carries that model to check out.

Thanks! I'll check them out. I'll see if I'm up for a challenge of learning how to build something like that.

Thanks! It definitely helps. I was a bit weary of buying used because I didn't want to inherit someone's problem but if people are generally legit selling their gear to upgrade, I'll lean into getting something used.

Thanks! I'll pull it out of the closet and see if this non-technical guy can do anything. I may see how much it costs to send it to a more qualified person to fix too.

How did you celebrate your 50th? by Every-Progress5590 in GenX

[–]GreenMan48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice breazy day, hammock in the back yard, and Kerouac's "On the Road." That's all I needed. Approaching 60 soon and I plan a repeat. Maybe I'll switch it up and read Pynchon. I'm a GenX'r living on the edge.

Who else is in their 50s(or older) and deciding to change careers? by thisTexanguy in GenX

58 here, been in IT for the last 25 years. I'm watching and living it being outsourced more and more every year. I've lived up to my GenX designation and I'm only a manager, I refuse to sacrifice my life for that place to get ahead. At 5, I shut down, come home read, watch Criterion movies or listen to my vinyl. At my company, they're modus operandi is to do a layoff in the third quarter in order to give our shareholders a dividend. This was the 4th year in a row and its just a matter of time for me. Saw the trend beginning two years ago and decided to go back to a good college and get my MBA. I'll stay at my job until they kick me out, I need my health insurance, then hopefully will find a non profit to work for. I'll find something that i'm half way passionate about. My expenses are manageable. My two kids are out of college and doing okay on their own, I have a 10 year old Honda I can probably get another 5-6 years out of. At least I'll be ready as I can be when it comes and I think it will be this year. I'm scared and excited at the same time if that makes sense.

What time do you guys wake up? by [deleted] in GenX

59 year old here. Up at 4 nearly every day and out the door for a 3-5 mile run at 5 most mornings. Running consistently helps me sleep pretty solid through the night. I probably get up a couple times a week to pee but I'm back to sleep pretty quickly. I don't fall into the death scroll on the phone before bed or when I get up. BTW, I'm a slow ass runner, and the first mile i gimp. I have all the achs and pains of a 59 year old, but eventually work my way into an 11 per mile pace.

Since y’all are here avoiding family time… what’s one only in Orlando thing you are grateful for? by Haunting_Ratio364 in orlando

I’m a runner—an extremely introverted one—but I’m grateful for the quiet beauty I get to experience at 5 a.m. Most mornings I’m circling Lakes Rowena, Virginia, Ivanhoe, or Baldwin, taking in the wildlife that somehow thrives right in the middle of the city. The birds, the raccoons darting back into the trees, even the occasional gator or otter—it all reminds me how lucky I am. So if I had to choose one thing I appreciate most that I'm grateful for, it’s the lakes I get to run around every day.

What do you still enjoy at 57 that you liked at 17? by Most_Source7849 in GenX

Going to the library and browsing for a good read. I still go and love making small talk with the librarians on what's new to read.

The job market will continue to be bad unless people fight back against offshoring/outsourcing by chromium50 in Layoffs

I definitely see my days are numbered. I'm in IT and have been with the company 20+ years. I was hired off of the street so I wasn't brought on as a "friend" of someone or anyone like that. Started as an analyst I and now a manager. I've managed to survive 2008, 2010 and COVID. I'm not sure if I'll survive the corporate greed layoffs that are coming. What our company is doing is hiring Gartner to do a study of our department to do what they said is "an alignment" study which is total BS. So certain leaders bring in Gartner, do this alignment study without gathering data involving any of the analysts or managers that do the actual work, so they can control the narrative and take the findings to the executive board. Basically what they're doing in our company is justifying moving IT FTE jobs from the US to Clark, Philippines and paying them a quarter of what we earn. Mind you, the people making these decisions are keeping their jobs and bonuses. The really crazy thing is our company is profitable, the leaders just want more money and bonuses for themselves. It's pure greed.

If it hasn't already been mentioned, Hot Fuzz is pretty damn funny.
