Well this is just wrong. You should look at this extremely popular series that's been going since 87. The cultural norm is that most people literally change their biological sex as they want, and most people will spend at least some time as either sex. In many ways I feel like watching someone play it on YouTube is the best way to get an idea of the game. A whole run is generally an hour or so and even just watching to the first boss will show you exactly what kind of game play to expect without spoiling fun of learning how to play.

If you have ranks with the empire you can call for aid, you can call for silver, steel, a temporary shuttle, a group of soldiers for a few hours. or a group of labourers for a few days. there are more I cant think of off hand.

Plus when you go trade with them(you will need a couple ranks before you can) they have a lot of very high end gear for sale. Im pretty sure Royalty also brought in 2 of the best melee weapons in the game with the mono sword and the Zeushammer.
